The name or term "Mirage" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Mirage (disambiguation).
Mirage is an Autobot from the live-action film continuity family.
The cast was... full.

Mirage is a little impatient. Armed with a dart rifle, electro-disrupter and the ability to create holograms and turn himself invisible, Mirage is one sneaky robot. When he's not invisible, he can usually be seen with his combat partner, Wheeljack.

He is sometimes referred to as Dino.

Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to control your dog.

Dino joined Que, Bumblebee and Sideswipe on a mission to take out an illegal nuclear weapons site in the Middle East. They were able to penetrate the base with ease thanks to Que disguising himself as the car of the country's Defense Minister, but Dino transformed to robot mode the instant they were through the barrier and, blades flashing, politely requested that the human guards lie on the ground while the Autobots went about their destructive business. Not long after, as the Autobots regrouped back at NEST's Washington headquarters, Dino informed Charlotte Mearing that Optimus Prime was in a bad mood over the discovery of a piece of Cybertronian technology he had found in Chernobyl, and wasn't talking to anyone, let alone her.

When Sam Witwicky believed he had a lead on more information that would explain the Decepticon recent movements, Dino and Sideswipe responded to his call and took him to meet with some Russian Cosmonauts. From them, the group learned of Decepticon activity on Earth's Moon, and deduced that the villains would be planning to abduct Sentinel Prime in order to use his space bridge. Rendez-vousing with Sentinel, the team headed back to Washington, but were attacked en route by the Dreads. Dino dug his blades into Hatchet, and steered him into the firing line of the other Autobots before hurling him into oncoming traffic to finish him off. Shortly after, Dino arrived at the base while Sideswipe and Ironhide finished off the rest of the Dreads. Dino did not witness Sentinel's revelation of treachery and Ironhide's murder, but was able to survive unscathed from the turncoat's attack on NEST headquarters. He later traveled to the Lincoln Memorial to stop Sentinel, but Optimus ordered the Autobots to fall back in the wake of the overwhelming numbers the Decepticons brought through the space bridge.

Soon afterwards, Sentinel ordered the United Nations to kick the Autobots off Earth. Dino and rest of the Autobots complied and boarded the Xantium. However, the Xantium was blown to smithereens shortly after take-off courtesy of Starscream. Fortunately for humanity, the Autobots got suspicious and actually hid in the ejected boosters, splashing down in the Atlantic. Dino and company arrived in Chicago to stop Sentinel and the Decepticons, but were captured by Soundwave. Escaping thanks to a cruiser dropping its compliment of Orbital Assault Carriers, the Autobots joined NEST and the United States Army in an assault on the building with the pillars, where Dino went hand to hand with Decepticons between him and the pillars. The control pillar was successfully destroyed and the Autobots won. Dark of the Moon

3D Battle Card Game

He seems familiar, but I can't place the face.
  • Mirage (2007)
    • Card number: 8
Mirage is a 26-point "Common" piece in the 3D Battle-Card Game. Constructed of punch-out pieces from randomly-packed plastic cards (two full robots per pack), he can be assembled into his car mode (model undetermined), or into a rather stumpy robot mode. His twin blaster-weapons can be mounted on his arms (their nominal placement) or on his shoulders.
He uses the same construction as the Barricade, Earth-mode Bumblebee, and Swerve cards. This style is similar to the one used by Cliffjumper, Jazz and Smokescreen.
Though his card is clearly based on the Alternators Mirage toy, he's not remotely as obvious about it as the Cliffjumper and Smokescreen cards are. While all the parts are in roughly the same place as the Alternators toy, the detailing is very much in line with the movie aesthetic, featuring a lot of shifted panels and extensive mechanical greeblies.

Speed Stars

He'll be seein' red.
  • Mirage (2011)
    • Series: Trans Scan
    • Number: 2 of 3
Mirage is one of three "die-cast" cars in the Trans Scan Series. In car mode he's mostly translucent red plastic and his robot mode is sculpted underneath. Due to licensing reasons noted below, his alt-mode is just an aproximation of a Ferrari 458 Italia instead of the actual vehicle.
His assortment got a very limited release, showing up at stores like ShopKo. Despite this, Mirage and the rest of the Speed Stars did get a very wide release in Mexico.

Notes

  • Call sheets for Dark of the Moon referred to Dino/Mirage as Enzo, a reference to Enzo Ferrari, presumably before the decision was made to tribute his son Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari.[1] Another early working name for him was Rush.[2]
  • "Dino" is not named "Mirage" in the movie because Hasbro's greatest competitor, Mattel, has an exclusive license for Ferrari toys[3], and thus Ferrari didn't want their product placement sporting the name of a Hasbro toy's trademark.[4]
  • Like his name, his Italian accent in the movie also had to be approved by Ferrari, who wanted him not to have a cheesy Hollywood "Italian" accent.[5]
  • In Dark of the Moon, Dino sports an Italian/European Union license plate (registered in the province of Catania), "CT 41401", in vehicle mode.[6] The colors are (deliberately) incorrect, though: Instead of black text on a white background, with a European "blue band" containing the European flag (a circle consisting of twelve yellow stars) on the left and a second blue band containing a yellow circle on the right, Dino's plate is essentially a negative monochrome version, with silver text on a black background, silver bands on both sides, a European flag consisting of twelve black stars on the left and a black circle on the right.
  • The "cardboard head on a stick" prop used for Dino during the shooting of the movie (a common method used for the movies to give the actors something to react to) can be spotted in the final edit of Dark of the Moon.[7]
