Ariel is an Autobot from the Earth Wars portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Does anyone else hate uniqueness or is it just me?

Ariel once lived an ascetic life as part of a non-interventionist Sisterhood of stoics which held the beliefs that taking part in conflict is succumbing to one's primal instincts, and that lasting peace can only come through burying one's individuality. Then came the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons, and pacifism became difficult to practice, leaving her as the last of her ancient order, still preaching the benefits of de-escalation over the chaos of conflict.

Her renowned intellect (and her stubbornness and self-importance, if you ask Elita) led her to gain a seat on the Autobot High Council, where she established a reputation of no little repute. As an Elder, she holds guardianship over relics like Solus Prime's Forge Fire Amulet. Her belief in her own superiority over other Cybertronians and her access to powerful artifacts make for a dangerous and unpredictable combination.<ref>Earth Wars mobile game bio for Ariel</ref>

Transformers: Earth Wars

[edit]

Ariel is all that remains of an ancient order of Cybertronian stoics, adhering to their teachings of conformity and consensus even when many others like Elita-1 abandoned what they saw as a rdundant philosophy. When others stood and fought against the Decepticons, Ariel remains hopeful that peace could achieved through unity and a society without agenda. She has become a prominent member of the Autobot High Council.Ariel Bio

With Sky Reign duking it out against Galvatronus, Dire Judgement Ariel arrived to reinforce fellow elder Windstrike at The Vault, to the dismay of Elita One, who griped about Ariel's refusal to fight in the early stages of the Great War in the face of Decepticons razing Cybertron's cities en masse. CONFORMITY IS COOL! CONFORMITY IS COOL!
  • War Dawn 2-Pack (Multi-pack, 2023)
    • Accessories: front tire/weapon, Energon blaster, ponytail
The Legacy: Evolution Erial toy was repurposed as a separate character from Elita-1 in the Earth Wars mobile game.
Released as part of the "War Dawn 2-Pack" in the Legacy: Evolution toyline, "Cybertronian Erial" is a retool of Deluxe Class Prime Universe Arcee, based on Ariel, Elita-1's previous identity in the episode "War Dawn". While the name change is a pretty transparent case of trademark issues, Hasbro marketer Ben MacCrae offered the tongue-in-cheek explanation that the new spelling aligns "Erial" more closely with Elita One à la Orion Pax and Optimus Prime.<ref name = "TFTuesday"/>
Erial comes in a two-pack with Dion. The figure includes a removable ponytail (presumably to hedge bets on transformation clearances with the new head sculpt) as well as an all-new Energon blaster, which designer Evan Brooks intimated was based on a blaster Elita One wielded in a later episode of the cartoon and could be passed on to a grown-up Elita for improved cartoon accuracy.<ref name ="TFTuesday"/>
The War Dawn 2-Pack was spotted at general retail in Taiwan a few weeks ahead of its official unveiling by Hasbro on the April 4, 2023 "Transformers Tuesday" livestream at Hasbro Pulse.
This figure was also used to make Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Road Rocket and Shattered Glass Collection Decepticon Flamewar.

Notes

[edit]
Legacy One Universe Elita-1
  • The character of "Ariel" first appeared in the December 1985 cartoon episode "War Dawn", as the young form of Elita One. In May 2023, the Earth Wars mobile game made Ariel and Elita One separate individuals, even having them meet upon Ariel's debut event in the game... though as a fun piece of trivia, "War Dawn" writer David Wise never intended Ariel to be a young Elita One, with that particular connection being added to the episode by the show's story editors.
  • In an interesting decision, it was Earth Wars Ariel who received a Transformers One Elita-1-based aesthetic skin (at right) in September 2024 despite the game already having an actual Elita-1 character. Presumably, this comes down to Earth Wars Elita-1 having a jet vehicle mode while Earth Wars has a motorcycle vehicle mode to match up with Transformers One Elita-1.
