When Metroplex is finished, the Decepticons show they have plans for the Autobot base!
Synopsis
[edit]The Autobots have finally finished constructing their base, Autobot City Metroplex, but the Decepticons strike during their celebrations, interrupting Bumblebee as he's picking out what parts to wear for the day. Megatron reveals that he's had a spy infiltrate Metroplex, allowing his forces to conquer the base, which they repaint and rename "Metrotitan". However, when Megatron orders Metrotitan to block-transform into its robot mode, the base falls apart in a shower of blocks.
To the Decepticon leader's horror, Optimus Prime admits that Metroplex is incomplete because the Autobots have been snacking on the building blocks. They soon rebuild and are even nice enough to comfort Megatron, despairing over the loss of "his" base, by giving him his own room. Initially dumbfounded, Megatron is quick to continue his rivalry with Optimus Prime, now living in the neighboring room, by challenging him to a game of old maid.
As the two leaders play, Christmas rolls around outside the base, where Vortex tells everyone that everyone lived happily ever after.

Notes
[edit]- As per usual with this series, multiple Kreons appear in this story who do not exist as toys. All of them, however, use existing Kre-O parts in their builds, though some are rather extensively "painted".
- Kreons have appeared in both Generation 1 and Prime-styled forms in the past, but this issue is the first to show Bumblebee and Megatron actually changing between them. Turns out they just like to wear different pieces sometimes!
- Sideways finally appears in full after making all his previous appearances as a leg... only to end up buried in blocks with only his leg showing.
- Megatron's negligee from issue #4 reappears in his room.
- Vector Prime explains his appearance in this strip as monitoring Sideways, confirming the Kre-O version as the original dimension-hopper. Ask Vector Prime
Transformers references
[edit]- Metroplex/Metrotitan is just straight out the Generations Metroplex toy, even drawn in pretty accurate scale to the Kreons.
- T-AI enjoying a bath while Fire Convoy watches nearby is a reference to the KT Figure Collection Ai-chan figurine. Fortunately this T-AI is wearing a swimsuit.
- Saber is watching a sheet dry in reference to "Cybertron Banzai", the ending theme of the Victory, a song which posed the question if Star Saber ever wet the bed.
- Optimus Prime is borrowing Sideswipe's rocket pack, much like his Generation 1 counterpart did in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 3".
- Bumblebee considers wearing a blue helmet in reference to his NYCC 2012 exclusive "Energon Bumblebee" toy, and keeps his parts on a Custom Kreon rack.
- Sky-Byte in Metrotitan's pool is probably another nod to the Ai-chan figurine, which included a Sky-Byte, and he's also playing with a ball like the original did in "The Fish Test".
- Bob from the original IDW Generation 1 comics is printed on Megatron's pillow.
