Scissor Boy is a Maximal-allied Insectron from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Carnage Scissors!

Scissor Boy (シザーボーイ Shisā Bōi) is the youngest member of the Insectrons, a group of Maximals who fled Cybertron to search for peace and isolation in the far reaches of the universe. He's good friends with another Maximal youth, Tasmania Kid, though the two are almost complete opposites. Where Kid is always looking for trouble, Scissor Boy just wants to chill. Where Kid is impatient and foolhardy, Scissor Boy is careful and considerate. Where Kid is vibrant and interesting, Scissor Boy is... not. He's just not.

Perhaps that's why he hangs out with Kid so much. While Scissor Boy could never morally justify initiating a rip-roaring adventure due to his own pacifist philosophies, if Kid just happens to drag him into another hair-brained scheme then it certainly isn't his fault, right? Right?

During his nomadic wanderings with the other Insectrons in search of peace and quiet, Scissor Boy and the rest fell afoul of the Autorollers. In particular, Scissor Boy had come to blows with Autostinger. Danger! Scissor Boy

Eventually, he and the other Insectrons settled on Gaia, though their peace was not to last. Along with Drill Nuts and Powerhug, Scissor Boy was tricked by Starscream and BB into thinking that Lio Convoy and his Maximals were actually the evil Predacons. Scissor Boy got into a fight with Tasmania Kid, though as they battled, the youths realized they had more in common than they thought. They eventually exhausted too much energy in their skirmish, leaving the Maximals and Insectrons open to a Combatron attack. Lio Convoy drove the Combatrons off and Scissor Boy and the rest fled, though now uncertain whether the Maximals were the enemy or not. Friend or Foe? The Insect Robos

Hoping to keep the Insectrons confused, Starscream next invited Scissor Boy and the others to an oil party on Mikazuki Island. Scissor Boy and Mantis were the only two not to go, and teamed up with Tasmania Kid when they realized their friends had been lured into a traop. Although they could do nothing, Scuba was able to calm the Insectrons by dousing them with water, restoring their faculties. Following that encounter, Scissor Boy agreed with the other Insectrons that the Maximals were not their foes. The Strongest Tag Team?

Unfortunately for Scissor Boy, he was soon ambushed by the Autorollers. Thinking fast, he tried to convince them that he was on their side and hated the Maximals. To prove it, Autostinger held him at gunpoint and forced him to ambush Tasmania Kid. Ultimately, both of the youths were taken hostage and forced to bring the Predacons to the Maximal base. An attack from the other Insectrons helped Scissor Boy spring lose and he was able to battle Autostinger directly. As they reminisced over their previous battles, Scissor Boy berated Autostinger for his evil ambitions, informing him that freedom was the greatest luxury in the universe. The other Maximals soon interfered and the Autorollers were forced into retreat. Danger! Scissor Boy

Megastorm next rallied the Predacons for a major offensive against the joint forces of the Maximals and the Insectrons. Scissor Boy was forced to fight once more and, along with his friends, drove the Predacons off. Predacon General Offensive!

Scissor Boy joined the other Insectrons acting as recon for Lio Convoy. They reported to the Maximals when Majin Zarak arrived at Point B-2, a narrow box canyon that would put the behemoth Predacon at a strategic disadvantage. Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!

Dogs don't know it's not Scissor Boy!
  • Scissor Boy (シザーボーイ, 1998)
Part of the fifth wave of Beast Wars II products in Takara's Beast Wars toyline, Scissor Boy is virtually identical to the Hasbro Beast Wars Predacon Powerpinch, transforming into an organic earwig. In beast mode, his "Mighty Scissor" claw on the end of his tail can flip up into a scorpion-like position, much like he is often seen doing in the cartoon, and an orange sliding trigger can be pushed back and forth to activate the clamping gimmick.
In robot mode, his Mighty Scissor can either detach to form a hand-held weapon (held by the sliding trigger) or it can remain attached where it was in beast mode, to be a chest-mounted weapon. Much like in the cartoon, Scissor Boy can fully transform without removing his Mighty Scissor.
The only notable difference between Scissor Boy and Powerpinch is Scissor Boy's Maximal rubsign decal.
This mold was also used to make Vice Grip.

As part of their larger Seal Retsuden offering, Amada produced the Beast Wars II: Super Lifeform Transformers Seal Retsuden set of 102 stickers. Of these, two normal ones (#024 and #025) and one metal one (#079) concern Scissor Boy.

Notes

[edit]
  • Despite the toy actually having molded hands inside the head halves that make up his forearms, Scissor Boy's cartoon character model instead makes his hands the antenna/mandible kibble parts that hang off of his forearms.
