Scale Chart Page Error
*Bot Shots bios

Heatwave GB
I added a new official chart to the scale chart page: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:TFAOE_GroupScaleChart.jpeg, https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Scale_charts, and followed the formatting precedents that were available, but for some reason editing the page caused the title of the ROTB charts section to become unbolded and unaligned. Do you know how to fix it, because I can’t seem to figure it out.
Hey, abates. I was going to change Heatwave's GoBox to something I made from the Rescue Bots Memory game cards...

Nevermind! Cyberlink quickly fixed it and I observed the error that was corrected. Steampunk671213 (talk) 11:29, 16 February 2025 (EST)

Could you fix this?
Hey, I noticed the TF Prime toyline page is currently using a Decepticon insignia instead of the Star Seeker one for Thundertron's toy and I also discovered that we didn't have a Star Seeker bulletpoint either., so I decided to give it a go making the bulletpoint myself, but I think I may have missed something somewhere in the coding as the image won't display on the Template:Bp-a1/doc page.

I'm regularising the Marvel UK cover filenames, but I accidentally just moved the #101 cover to :File:MarvelUK-102.jpg. Could you move it to :File:MarvelUK-101.jpg and delete the redirect so I can move the actual #102 cover there, please? Ta. - SanityOrMadness (talk) 19:17, 27 January 2014 (EST)

I don't want to sound overly cautious and paranoid, but it's bothered me for a while: Is it possible that these three users are one and the same? == Insignias for the Thirteen ==

Why are you guys so suspicious about me? Am I a wanted hacker or something. I was searching for administrators so I can know more about them, abates/you came first. I decided to read your page and I found this. I thought to myself, " Am I being accused that I'm someone else?". I didn't know what mo was so I looked it up. Now I know. I decided to mind my own business and upload a file of dreadwing. I didn't crop it right so it showed a couple of pages. So what? . I know how you guys are feeling. You guys don't trust because I'm  the "New Guy". Same thing happened on wookiepedia. Everyone was suspicious at me because they think I'm dangerous or something, Get this, I'm not. I'm just new and I'm trying to enjoy myself in here. So can you guys stop being paranoid and give me a boost up on this wiki?
The upcoming AOTP Megatronus figure appears to use his personal insignia as his faction insignia on both the box and toy, so I was wondering if a set of bullet point insignias could be made for the Thirteen Primes since there’s definitely more figures of them to come that’ll use their insignias in place of, say, an Autobot or Decepticon one. (I’d make them, but I’ve got no clue how to do it, so I’m going to you.) - IGEBM13 (talk) 23:12, 30 October 2024 (EDT)
:It's generally fairly easy. You'll need to upload some suitably sized insignias and then create some templates along the same line as Template:Bp-a1 - you just need to change the class in the code to be unique. Then once that's done, I or another admin can add the necessary code to the style sheet. --abates (talk) 19:30, 31 October 2024 (EDT)

:::You can pretty much create new bullet point templates just by copying and pasting the code for, say, Template:Bp-d1 into a new template and change the bit that says class="decepticong1" to something like class="megatronus". --abates (talk) 21:40, 31 October 2024 (EDT)

Hi, I believe you accidentally deleted the "Estrela-Carrera.jpg" file (which, per the filename, was just an image of the two variants of G1 Estrela Carrera / Cliffjumper that was currently in use on its respective page) a couple of days ago! Is this reversible (and, if not, can I reupload it?), or was there some other issue with this image? Thanks in advance! :You are not being suspected because you're a "new guy", you are being suspected because your behavior is somewhat similar to a user who's been banned. In many wikis, it's not uncommon for a banned user to create a new account to try and bypass a ban, and our policy for ban evasion is always a permanent ban for every account the user has and will make. The sad part is that there are many instances when the ban is temporary, and the user could have simply waited for it to pass, rather than take the chance and be permanently banned. Just giving out the facts. --Inkblot (talk) 02:26, 13 July 2014 (EDT)

I understand but  guys, don't accuse me of being someone else. I know the rules about the "only one account per person". I don't create multiple accounts because I know it results into a ban. Being honest, I'm one of the shy types. I don't want to get that much of attention from a group of people. It starts to make me uncomfortable and paranoid. So why accuse a new-timer rather than giving me tips and a head start on this wiki? .

The First Seven:edit
Response
Hi, Abates! For the first seven transformers Wikipedia page, must we add the whole story behind the seven of them? - Webearbears

The captions were not informative as to what the content of the picture was. Image captions are meant to put an image into context of the page. The caption on the images I edited did not serve this purpose. I've been here in the past and it is incredibly off putting to see image captions with jokes rather than information. It does not inspire confidence even if the content of the page is good. It makes it hard to take the site seriously as a information source, which is what all wiki based site really are.

While I can understand the idea of trying to be light and a little humorous, I know that at least more than a few people find this incredibly off putting and unprofessional, which hurt's a site's like this ability to attract people to it. While the user's here may think it's funny, the average person who comes here will not appreciate it the same way, or may not understand the context of the joke, it can ruin the first impression make it so people may not come back. A large portion of people who come to wiki based sites are not hard core fans, but the casual viewer or someone who has a passing interest in the franchise, or is trying to get more information on something they may be missing context on. They aren't looking for jokes, they just want information. Another thing Humor is HIGHLY subjective to the individual, putting a joke on the main page of an article meant to be view by the general population in general is not a good idea, given that a lot of people won't even think it's funny, and if they they don't think it's funny, then they are probably just gonna think it's stupid, and that gives a bad impression of the site.

But the biggest reason I'm doing it is that the tone of image captions seems to be spilling over into actual article content. Image captioning is one thing, but the content of the article proper should only be factual information.

I'd also like to note that at the time I edited the captions, I didn't not actually know the site made it a policy to have humorous captions, just so you know that I wasn't trying to make a point and be a menace or anything, everything I do is in an attempt to improve the quality of the site. --8492nd (talk) 16:21, 18 July 2014 (EDT)

Can I ask who are the Admin's here, for future reference?--8492nd (talk) 17:45, 18 July 2014 (EDT)

First, I would like to thank you for the list of Admins, it's always helpful to know who is in charge.

Second, I don't want to be trouble maker, but I do feel the need to express my point of view on the subject in it's entirety. I just ask you let me say my piece, and If I if you don't agree with my views, that is fine, I won't push the issue after I've made all my feeling known, but I do as that you listen and consider what I say. I have been a regular editor of a number of wiki based sites for years and have a good deal of experience on what works with a these sites and what doesn't, in general at least.

First thing is that while the current community may like how it is, this in general makes it harder for a wiki to grow as a community, as you have become specialized to appeal larger base. While you may of noticed other wiki's using a similar type of system, that does not, by it's nature mean it's a good thing. Some wiki's are new and may only be copying the format of a larger more established site, like this one, but many more follow the more standard format. The site you should really be taking notes from are the largest and most successful one, as they are the ones that have manged to attract the most users to edit them and work on them, and almost all of the one's I've seen that get that large follow a similar format to Wikipedia. While a more humor based system will appeal to some people, history shows that the more traditional format seems to attract more people.

Also, while I don't doubt that you have seen people in favor of this format, I feel like if you spread the question beyond the confines of this sites community, I do feel that the the number of people in favor of this would drop, as it is not the preferred format on most wiki based sites. This fact would indicate that it's not really popular in the larger online community.

The other things, which I have mentioned before, if humor is highly subjective. I can personally say I do not find any of the captions I've read funny, but I know I can't use that as a base for everyone else, but it shows an example of the intended idea of having something "funny", can actually hurt the site. In real life, if you tell a joke, and it bombs, you normally end up embarrassing yourself, and I know that in my case it usually makes for a fairly awkward situation. Apply this to a wiki page, while you don't have the same embarrassed situation, it looks bad for the site as a whole. The more casual fan who just stop by maybe to look up an episodes list, or maybe needs a reference picture for something, reads one of these captions. Maybe they think it's funny, but the more likely response is confusion and not understanding why it's the way it is. If they don't know that the intention is a joke, it can result in confusion, or result in turning someone off to possibly joining the community.

But here's one of the two my biggest issue in this situation. I'd be able to take some humor based captions, but the humor based captions seem to be the rule rather than exception. Now I like to laugh as much as the next guy, but I do think that if you really want to keep some humor in the articles, it would work better in smaller portions. I think of it like hanging out with a guy who just doesn't know when to stop making jokes, yeah he's funny once in a while, but if everything out of his mouth is some kind of joke, it get's annoying. That's how it feels when I read pages, almost every image I see has some kind of joke on it, if it's got anything at all. I feel that if this how it's going to be, and I know think that it will be for a long time, that it should be done in moderation. As it stands right now, it kinda feels like that it keeps coming at you, while not fully providing context of the picture, which is my other biggest point.

Some picture need to put in context. Take the page of Alexis Thi Dang, near the end of the Armada section, their is a picture of her crying after Starscream died. Now, the caption reads "They told me mullets were making a comeback. They lied!", not only does it sorta take the intended emotional impact of the scene out, but the image doesn't make sense to someone who hasn't seen the episode, or hasn't seen it in a long time. In general, this is something that needs to be addressed, some picture need to have context to make sense in the page. The Images real purpose to to give the reader a better insight into the articles content, they should compliment each other to give a better view what is being described in the article, and putting a joke caption in hurts or even robs it of the ability to do so, especially if the the person has not actually seen/read the materiel in question, it could be a picture of anything and any caption and ultimately have the same affect.

So in conclusion, I don't think that the "humor" aspect will change in the near future. But I really do think it needs to be toned down at least and let being and informative site be at the for front of what the site is about. Let images have informative caption when necessary, and if people want to have their little jokes, fine, but I think the idea of having fun may of gone to far with the image captions and content and context is starting to suffer.

I'd appreciate it if my opinion was genuinely considered, but even if it's not, I still felt the need to voice my opinion on the matter, and I hope you don't take any of this as a personal insult or attack, it's not intended to be.--8492nd (talk) 20:48, 18 July 2014 (EDT)

Yes they could, this is true, but it's not truly efficient. If I'm reading one of my text a books for example and their is a diagram or image of an individual, I want the caption to be put in the context and explain what it's purpose is for being on the page so I can look at it on the same page I'm reading the relevant information on it. I don't want to have to look it up some where else to find out it's context.

I don't know how big the community on here is, but the Transformer fan base is much larger than what is represented here. I feel like you (by you, I mean the community in general) have unintentionally made the site less appealing to other fans of the series. I know myself and more than a few of my friends have been put off by the captioning here. The most common thing I've heard is it does not make them confident they can trust in the information given when the pages are presented in such a manor. That is one of the worst thing for a wiki based site, as the intention is present information, if people get a bad first impression, then they probably aren't going to come back.--8492nd (talk) 21:48, 18 July 2014 (EDT)

I'll will note that It'sWalky, my comment after yours was already being typed and was done before your placed your comment, so it was not my intention to disregard your comment. I got the edit conflict not, but by nature I type longer comments into a word doucounet and copy in paste it in to make sure if somthing like that happens I still have most if not all the meterial I typed.

I may be new here, but I've edited wiki and wiki based sites for years, as well as being a life long fan of franchise. Just because I'm new here doesn't mean that my views should be dismissed right off the back. I'd also point out that it wasn't "me and my friends deciding among ourselves" I was solely referring to, while I have discussed this with my friends, I've also discussed it with other's on other wikis, even a couple of people I out right do not get along with, but agreed on this topic.

I will say this, you do not have to get cross with me. I voiced my opinion, which I believe is allowed. You shouldn't be threatened by my opinions, maybe take what I have to say, considered some of my points, and If you don't agree with me, you can present the response in a formal, less aggressive way. I only wish to help improve the quality of the site, and help it expanded into a larger community, I'm sorry if you took this the wrong way, I just tend to not give short responses in general, I give short essays responses. I've been told in the past this can come off as pushy or aggressive, but it's not my intent, it's just how I'm wired to be meticulous in responses and point of view.

When I joined I got the standard welcome message and it said "Captions - The funny stays/the funny is not the main goal here.", I took this to mean that while he have some humor, it wasn't the main idea, which I feel it has become.

I am truly sorry if I've offended anyone, I'm here for the same reason as everyone else, because I love this franchise, and I do think for the most part your content is excellent, it's just this one thing I wanted to help improve. The community has done a lot, and does have an impressive user count (13850 users have registered sense June 2008, yes I counted, that's another one of those personality quirks I have).

My suggestions were not an insult or meant as such, only suggestions to help improve artical content and maybe help the wiki appeal to a broader demographic.

I'll end on the apology for how this was taken, but not apologize my views, they are mine and I'm entitled to them, but so is everyone here, and if this is how they want it, then I'll leave it alone for now.

I hope we can be mature about this, leave any hard feeling behind and move on.

:If you want to be mature about it, then stop making up totally baseless claims and calling them "facts", and actually extend to others the respect you're demanding by reading their responses and familiarizing yourself with the wiki's policy, history, and very well-documented success before claiming that it's doing poorly. (As it's been pointed out many times, the wiki is tailored to appeal to the Transformers fan demographic, and is wildly successful at that.)

Scale Chart Page Error

[edit]

I added a new official chart to the scale chart page: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:TFAOE_GroupScaleChart.jpeg, https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Scale_charts, and followed the formatting precedents that were available, but for some reason editing the page caused the title of the ROTB charts section to become unbolded and unaligned. Do you know how to fix it, because I can’t seem to figure it out.

Nevermind! Cyberlink quickly fixed it and I observed the error that was corrected. Steampunk671213 (talk) 11:29, 16 February 2025 (EST)

Glad it got sorted out! --abates (talk) 14:07, 16 February 2025 (EST)

New insignia icon

[edit]

Hey, I noticed the TF Prime toyline page is currently using a Decepticon insignia instead of the Star Seeker one for Thundertron's toy and I also discovered that we didn't have a Star Seeker bulletpoint either., so I decided to give it a go making the bulletpoint myself, but I think I may have missed something somewhere in the coding as the image won't display on the Template:Bp-a1/doc page.

Would you possibly be able to give me a hand?

To make it easier to find, here is the template I made and the file I uploaded:

Thanks. Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 06:48, 4 July 2021 (EDT)

It needs a line added into the site's stylesheets. I can do that now, no problem. --abates (talk) 06:59, 4 July 2021 (EDT)
Ah, I see that it works now. Tysm! Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 07:07, 4 July 2021 (EDT)

JaAm

[edit]

Any particular reason you decided to change the title back? —Yaxuo (talk contribs) 14:21, 19 January 2022 (EST)

It was with respect to the recent discussion on Talk:JaAm about how the comic has not aged well and can be interpreted as offensive. --abates (talk) 14:52, 19 January 2022 (EST)

Transformers 2 treatment

[edit]

Talk:Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)#Should this treatment be added to the wiki?
I would like to get your opinion on the above. Is it worthy of documentation? https://transformerslive.blogspot.com/2007/10/transfomers-2-leaked-script.html?m=0
"Finally at Michael Bay's forums, Nelson (head admin) posts that the script isn't fan made reminding readers 'It's a treatment...far cry from a shooting script.' " --Primestar3 (talk) 06:49, 24 March 2024 (EDT)

I guess that would be covered in the same way we're covering the TFTM early draft. --abates (talk) 15:16, 24 March 2024 (EDT)
Ok, thanks for answering.--Primestar3 (talk) 17:32, 27 March 2024 (EDT)

Privacy Policy

[edit]

Two weeks ago, I put a comment on our Privacy Policy's talk page. No one responded for the first week, so I put another. There has still been no response, so I think there may not be very many people watching it. I think the current policy definitely needs improvement and also needs to be adopted, so I'm contacting you since you were the last admin to make a comment on the page. If you could please give an opinion on its talk page, I'd greatly appreciate it. Hilfam (talk) 17:52, 13 September 2024 (EDT)

I don't really have anything to add since the last time I commented on it. Other than the intro possibly needing a rewrite to be more po-faced, it's reasonably accurate. --abates (talk) 01:59, 14 September 2024 (EDT)
Do I have the authority to edit it directly? I see what you mean by the intro needing a rewrite. Hilfam (talk) 13:59, 14 September 2024 (EDT)
I would suggest submitting the rewrite on the talk page for feedback, then it can be copied to the page itself later. --abates (talk) 21:54, 14 September 2024 (EDT)

Insignias for the Thirteen

[edit]

The upcoming AOTP Megatronus figure appears to use his personal insignia as his faction insignia on both the box and toy, so I was wondering if a set of bullet point insignias could be made for the Thirteen Primes since there’s definitely more figures of them to come that’ll use their insignias in place of, say, an Autobot or Decepticon one. (I’d make them, but I’ve got no clue how to do it, so I’m going to you.) - IGEBM13 (talk) 23:12, 30 October 2024 (EDT)

It's generally fairly easy.
Is there a specific code template or something I’m supposed use? (Still new to the site and learning the code and stuff lol) - IGEBM13 (talk) 20:31, 31 October 2024 (EDT)
You can pretty much create new bullet point templates just by copying and pasting the code for, say, Template:Bp-d1 into a new template and change the bit that says class="decepticong1" to something like class="megatronus". --abates (talk) 21:40, 31 October 2024 (EDT)
Alr, I’ll give it a shot in a little bit - IGEBM13 (talk) 22:37, 31 October 2024 (EDT)
Here's one for Prima (I was using him as a test). Assuming I did this right, I should be able to make the others on Sunday.
- IGEBM13 (talk) 11:33, 1 November 2024 (EDT)
That looks good to me. I have added the necessary code into the stylesheets, so it should work like the other bullet point templates. --abates (talk) 17:44, 1 November 2024 (EDT)
And here’s the rest!
(Phew, that was a lot lol) - IGEBM13 (talk) 23:57, 3 November 2024 (EST)
I have added them into the stylesheets. Apologies for taking so long! --abates (talk) 18:56, 8 November 2024 (EST)
Thanks! - IGEBM13 (talk) 07:42, 11 November 2024 (EST)

File:Estrela-Carrera.jpg

[edit]

Hi, I believe you accidentally deleted the "Estrela-Carrera.jpg" file (which, per the filename, was just an image of the two variants of G1 Estrela Carrera / Cliffjumper that was currently in use on its respective page) a couple of days ago! Is this reversible (and, if not, can I reupload it?), or was there some other issue with this image? Thanks in advance! (FortressMaxxing (talk) 17:15, 17 April 2025 (EDT))

Thanks, I have restored this file. --abates (talk) 17:38, 17 April 2025 (EDT)

No problem! Sorry about that - I have messaged the user who erroneously marked it for speedydeletion. --abates (talk) 18:37, 17 April 2025 (EDT)

Bill Simmons:edit

Hi, I would like to ask whether the page of Bill Simmons, Seymour Simmons’s father has to be edited. It was mentioned that his father is no longer there to guide him through his early childhood either because of divorce or death. Must we type in a few things regarding this matter? - Chenz9001d
