The name or term "Cliffjumper" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Cliffjumper (disambiguation).
Cliffjumper is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.
He's got a piece of paper that he claims contains a list of 200 known traitors.

Within Cliffjumper burns the spark of a hero and a dedicated Autobot. On the outside, he's a paranoid, trigger-happy jerk with serious impulse-control problems. Cliffjumper utterly hates the Decepticons. He also hates traitors. And anybody could be a traitor. Therefore, Cliffjumper hates everybody. It's unclear if he hates traitors more than he hates Decepticons, but it's at least a neck-and-neck thing.

He makes a habit of pulling ridiculously huge guns out of nowhere and attacking impulsively despite orders or sanity. Somehow, this gets him neither killed nor demoted.

Cliffjumper's special weapon is his glass gas, which embrittles metals on contact so that they shatter like glass. He is not immune to its effects, so its use requires careful consideration of wind direction. Actually, this may explain why he prefers the big guns. He doesn't seem like the calculating type.

Look at Megatron. I'm gonna blast that smile off his faceplate.Cliffjumper, raring to go, "The Ultimate Doom, Part 3"

Marvel Comics continuity

One of the original crew members of the Ark when it crash-landed on Earth, Cliffjumper engaged in many of the key battles during the early years of that conflict before quickly getting lost in the crowd.

In one splinter timeline, he wound up in an alternate "mirror" universe where up is down, black is white, right is wrong, and Cliffjumper is an important character.

Despite being short-tempered, irritable and highly suspicious of his fellow Autobots, Cliffjumper made up for it with his soothingly golden voice. An original member of Optimus Prime's crew when they crash-landed on Earth, Cliffjumper participated in many of the key battles during the 1980s. He was later stationed on one of the Autobot Moon Bases by the year 2005 and survived an encounter with Unicron, before immediately disappearing for reasons "unknown."

In a few splinter timelines, Cliffjumper had more adventures on Earth in the '80s and '90s, much in the same capacity as those he had in his primary timeline (i.e. part of the crowd). In a parallel universe of a splinter timeline, he gained a new body and had many confusing adventures with the Alternity.

During a Decepticon attack, Cliffjumper pleaded with Optimus to let him jump into the fray. Optimus denied his request, telling him that they already had the Decepticons on the run. He and the other Autobots then enjoyed an unusual lull in Decepticon activities for the next several days, only to find out they had been lulled into a false sense of security; the Decepticons had stolen the Autobots’ entire supply of fuel during this quiet time. Cliffjumper and the other Autobots nonetheless attempted to fend off the Decepticons when they attacked once more. Thankfully, Optimus returned just in time with a new shipment of fuel. Re-energized, the Autobots forced the Decepticons to flee once again. Revenge of the Decepticons

The Adventures of Scary Eyes and Awesome Car!

Upon awakening on Earth, and taking the form of a Porsche, Cliffjumper met Sparkplug and his son Spike. With the Decepticons still not in the know of what forms the Autobots had taken, Cliffjumper was one of the troops that Optimus led into the desert in order to ambush their enemies. Though they successfully took by surprise a squadron of Decepticons, the Autobots had not anticipated a second group flying in from the opposite direction. Thanks to a warning from Spike and Sparkplug, the Autobots managed to fend off the Decepticons and came to accept Earth as their new home. Battle for Cybertron

One day, a bunch of humans held a rally race for which first prize would be a year's supply of oil and gasoline. Rather than follow their usual tack, attempting to cheat their way to the fuel, the Decepticons decided to sneak into the race simply for the sake of giving the Autobots a thrashing. Cliffjumper was one of the Autobots driving in the rally, and he was unaware that the scary black Cadillac was actually being driven by Megatron until he tried to pass it. Megatron dogged the Minibot for quite a while until a telephone pole-wielding Optimus Prime swatted the Decepticon leader out of the race. Cliffjumper won the race and everybody smiled, even Optimus Prime. The Great Car Rally

He returned to headquarters where Optimus Prime apologized to Blaisedale for the whole thing and persuaded her to help them. With the news that the Decepticons wanted to get their hands on the doctor's solar reactor, the Autobots went to the solar plant and began to re-energize. When Ravage kidnapped Blaisedale, energy-low Cliffjumper stayed at the plant and was, therefore, one of the few Autobots still there when Megatron attacked it. Luckily Snarl and the Dinobots arrived, and once Cliffjumper used the last of his energy to glass gas Megatron's cannon, they attacked. Cliffjumper was left sitting helplessly in the middle of the battle, and when Optimus's rescue team returned with Blaisedale, Windcharger had to push Cliffjumper to safety. After the battle, Optimus scolded Cliffjumper for running out of power, and Cliffjumper drove Doctor Blaisedale home. Sun Raid (Listen 'n Fun)

Before the construction of Autobot City on Earth, Optimus led a convoy of Autobots to find the ideal location for their new base's construction. Cliffjumper was amongst the troops accompanying Optimus. As they drove along, the Autobots were ambushed by the Decepticons. The battle that ensued later came to be known as "Digital Doom on the Highway to Destruction." Rodimus Prime remembers the Transformers greatest battle on Earth.

Cliffjumper is not seen in the image illustrating the Digital Doom battle in the first installment of the story. However, it is later revealed that he was a part of the battle, as is seen in the next installment. Maybe he was just "off-panel"?

Optimus ordered Cliffjumper, Warpath and Cosmos to flee the battle in order to fetch reinforcements. Transformers Combat Data The Autobots Are Under Attack!

Decepticon Poison

The following summarizes one or more multipath adventures. Details vary depending on the paths taken in-story. See the book's page for information on alternate paths.

Cliffjumper was amongst the Autobots getting topped up with their latest batch of fuel when Red Alert burst into Autobot headquarters, warning everyone about Ramjet being spotted nearby. The Autobots’ latest batch of fuel had been poisoned by the fleeing Decepticon, leaving Cliffjumper unable to transform.

In one possible sequence of events that ensued, Perceptor gave out the right amount of an antidote the Autobot scientist had created, allowing Cliffjumper to resume his robot form and take arms against an incoming squadron of Decepticons. The antidote having given Cliffjumper and the rest of the cured Autobots a case of battle fever, the bunch were eager to take on the Decepticons head-on in combat. The more level-head Prowl suggested instead a more conniving approach, where the Autobots would ambush their assailants.

If Optimus allowed Cliffjumper and the rest of the refueled Autobots to venture headlong into battle, the group fond themselves fighting against Megatron himself, accompanied by a squad of Decepticon jets. Though Cliffjumper's squad started out strong, they soon found themselves overpowered by Megatron, prompting Optimus to lead a second wave into battle. The second wave soon ran out of fuel, prompting the Autobots to call a retreat. Thankfully, the Decepticons were damaged enough through the course of the battle, causing them to retreat as well.

If Optimus instead followed Prowl's plan, he instructed Cliffjumper and the others to transform into vehicle mode and play dead. The Decepticons, believing the Autobots to be already dead, disarmed themselves in order to carry out the Autobots’ “carcasses.” Now with the element of surprise against an unarmed opponent, the Autobots Transformed and were able to easily defeat the evil robots.

In another possible turn of events, Perceptor gave out too much of his antidote to each Autobot. Though Cliffjumper initially cheered, finding himself able to transform once more, he soon found himself literally falling to pieces. The Autobots finding themselves completely outmatched against an all-out Decepticon attack were made short work of by the Decepticons.

In yet another possible scenario, the Autobots used the tainted fuel to create a toxic cloud that successfully fended off the Decepticons attack. This plan gave Perceptor the time he needed to cure Cliffjumpers and the others with his antidote. Their ranks fully replenished and the Decepticons turning tail meant the Autobots had earned themselves another victory.

In completely different possible sequence of events, Optimus successfully retrieved the antidote to the poison from the Decepticons’ poison lab, and with Ratchet's help, brought Cliffjumper and the rest of the poisoned Autobots back from the precipice of death. Now cured, the Autobots discussed their next course of action; they had to prevent the Decepticons from poisoning the nearby water reservoir. Decepticon Poison

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

Events from The Transformers Trilogy novels are in italics.

Cliffjumper briefly appeared during Shockwave's assault on Iacon, avoiding Decepticon fire. The War Within #3

Cliffjumper was active during the Dark Ages on Cybertron, when Optimus Prime and Megatron were missing and the two armies had split up into multiple smaller factions. He was working primarily with Prowl's contingent of soldiers. Fragmentation He accompanied Prowl's team out to the Praetorus Wharf in search of Trypticon, only to discover that the battle station was already operational and battle-ready. Devastation Still in vehicle mode, he was knocked over during the initial salvo, and Jazz had to right him. After the arrival of Autobot reinforcements, they tried to concentrate their firepower to find any sort of weakspot on the enemy, only for Trypticon to suddenly up and leave as he had other orders. Revelation

During the Age of Internment, during which Megatron managed to take control over Cybertron, Cliffjumper was held at Internment Camp Pi in Praxus. He was about to be disciplined for tripping (laying down on the job was a punishable offense) when Brawn stepped in and bashed the guards about to assault him. This little insurrection was quickly quelled by the Aerospace Extermination Squadron overlooking the camp. The Age of Wrath Pt.2

The Age of Wrath ceased publication before the story could conclude. The following would have taken place in unpublished issues.

Optimus returned to Cybertron, and the Autobots were freed from slavery. The Age of Wrath Pt.6

Cliffjumper was a part of the crew on board the Ark when it crashed into Earth four million years ago while clearing an asteroid in the path of Cybertron. He was one of many Transformers captured and reprogrammed by arms dealer Adam 'Lazarus' Rook for lease to terrorist organizations and shady governments requiring brutal military might. Fortunately, Autobots under the command of Optimus Prime repaired and re-reprogrammed Cliffjumper and the remaining captive Autobots. Immediately, they were put to work on fighting Megatron's metallic virus, which had spread deep into Canadian territory, using their own internal power as the anti-virus. Prime Directive #5

As Cliffjumper collapsed into the snow out of exhaustion, the Canadian military arrived. Unfortunately, due to the recent attacks by both enslaved Autobots and Decepticons under the command of Rook, the Canadians attempted to stop the Autobots doing what they perceived to be an attack on their soil. Knowing that the virus fed upon weapons fire, Cliffjumper tried to stop a tank crew from causing further harm by bending the tank's main gun. The commander panicked, thinking Cliffjumper was attacking, and fired, destroying himself and seriously damaging the Autobot. Prime Directive #6

When the U.S. military attacked the Autobots and Decepticons at a staged ambush in the Nevada desert, Cliffjumper was among the soldiers present. He took semi-critical damage from the deconstructionite attack, losing a great deal of available processing power to the weaponized nanites employed by the armed forces, and had to be carted away to safety inside Prime's trailer. Fusion

Sometime later, the unified Cybertronian army arrived on Earth and demanded the surrender of all active Autobots and Decepticons. After the initial encounter left several Autobots damaged, Optimus Prime brought most of his crew back to the Ark for repairs while Prowl organized a small detachment for reconnaissance purposes. Cliffjumper and Mirage were teamed together for the recon assignment but were captured by Ultra Magnus and his contingent of soldiers. Mirage gave up without a fight, eager to return home to Cybertron, which led Cliffjumper to declare him a traitor to the Autobot cause. Brothers' Burden

Cliffjumper and Mirage settled their differences on the battlefield during the Autobot uprising on Cybertron; Cliffjumper first attempted to rescue Mirage from Dirge, only for the Decepticon to knock him aside... allowing Mirage to use his invisibility powers to save him from Dirge in turn. Revelation

Following the toppling of Shockwave's regime, Cliffjumper was assigned to the shuttle Orion under Bumblebee's command, bringing supplies back to Jazz and his troops on Earth. Their routine mission was almost immediately interrupted by one of Shockwave's rogue creations, the super-clone known as Sunstorm who was engaging Autobot and Decepticon alike on Earth. Night of the Combaticons

Cliffjumper tried to gun down the radioactive Decepticon, only for Sunstorm to overload the Orion with energy, causing it to crash. The Orion's crew walked away from their rough landing unharmed, however, and Sunstorm left in pursuit of Starscream. Cliffjumper and his team set about repairing their ship and accomplished the task in a few hours. The Autobots were getting ready for some well-earned rest when Starscream returned, now accompanied by Jetfire. Black Sunshine The Autobots allied themselves with Starscream to combat Sunstorm's greater evil, with Cliffjumper donning a jet-pack to participate in Ratchet and Jetfire's plans to disable the solar-powered Decepticon. Skyfire Unfortunately, upon returning to the Orion, Cliffjumper and the others discovered that their one-time ally Starscream betrayed them, disabling all of the Autobots on-board before fleeing the scene. As they were tending to their wounded, the Autobots heard a distant explosion, signifying that their last ace-in-the-hole, Omega Supreme, had tracked down and engaged Sunstorm. The Omega Effect Unfortunately, Omega did not emerge victorious from this confrontation. Though Omega Supreme rebooted in short order after his defeat, he was still very weak. Cliffjumper was left behind to defend him while he recovered. Meanwhile, Jetfire and Bumblebee headed off to track down Sunstorm once more. Cliffjumper argued against this arrangement but was made to accept it when Bumblebee pulled rank on him. Original Sin Omega Supreme commented that Cliffjumper was expending energy unnecessarily as he paced about, causing the little 'bot to snap at the titan. Omega revealed that he shared Cliffjumper's concerns over the danger their friends were in, and Cliffjumper apologized, admitting that he simply felt useless in their present situation. Atonement

The Beast Within

Cliffjumper participated in a savage battle against the Decepticons, though he did not fare too well, being on the receiving end of a beat-down courtesy of Headstrong. The Beast Within Cliffjumper's corpse would later be one of many that littered the battlefield as Autobot survivors tried to escape the Beast. The Beast Within Part 2, Consequences

Hearts of Steel

Cliffjumper, who appeared to transform into some sort of ankylosaurid, was seen by Optimus Prime's side as the Autobots waged battle against the Decepticons on prehistoric Earth. When an approaching ice age came close to deactivating both sides, further combat was deemed unwise, and the Autobots went into hiding deep underground. They remained in stasis until the mid-19th century, at which point the battles with the Decepticons flared up again, though Cliffjumper was not seen partaking in any of the action. Hearts of Steel #1

"Strange Visitors" establishes that events identical to those of Hearts of Steel and Infestation 2 occur in the 2005 IDW continuity; however, they happened to Maximal explorers brainwashed by Shockwave into believing they were the Autobots and Decepticons of the Great War.

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers

Cliffjumper was aboard the Ark when it crashed on Earth in the past, and lay dormant when it was discovered by Cobra in the present. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #1 The terrorist organization subsequently reprogrammed the Transformers to serve them, reformatting Cliffjumper into a Cobra vehicle in the process. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #2 Luckily, Wheeljack eventually undid the reprogramming, freeing Autobot and Decepticon alike. As the factions continued their war on Cobra Island, Cliffjumper helped Sideswipe and Sunstreaker fight Skywarp and Thundercracker. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #5

Years later, having returned to Cybertron, Cliffjumper was part of an Autobot team led by Hot Rod, waiting for a chance to beat up Serpent O.R. and his Decepticon army. The Art of War #4 When that chance came, the team fought the Decepticons alongside G.I. Joe, eventually defeating them. The Art of War #5

Cliffjumper was assigned with Ironhide to be Starscream's escorts after the Decepticon became amnesiac and fell in with the Autobots. Later on, Starscream regained his memory and rejoined the Decepticons, prompting Cliffjumper to assert that you can't trust a Decepticon. Redemption Center

Before the war, Cliffjumper was best buddies with Bumblebee and Hubcap, forming a trio of friends who'd enjoy the races together. Ghost Stories He was seen mourning Bumper and Fastback at the Security Services HQ in Kaon. Megatron Origin #3 At one point in the early days of the Decepticon uprising, Cliffjumper and Hubcap were weirded out when Bumblebee started acting odd and stopped hanging out with them. Ghost Stories

As the war spread across Cybertron, Cliffjumper embraced the path of a warrior as a few other Autobots did. He became a weapons expert, skilled in both ranged and melee combat. His skills earned him a dubious role as an assassin, but it was a job he took to easily. On one occasion, he broke into a Decepticon outpost and executed the ranking commander, along with five other warriors who got in his way. As his ship was damaged during his escape, Cliffjumper was forced down on an undeveloped world to hide out and wait for back-up.

While securing his position, Cliffjumper met a young innocent farm girl named Kita, and her little brother Coll. Kita marveled at the metal man she had discovered, and Cliffjumper was quite taken with her as well. He told her he was one of the good guys but had to gloss over the details of his job when she said: "there is no greater evil" than to hurt another being. With nothing else to do while waiting for transport home, Cliffjumper helped out around the farm and grew quite close with Kita and Coll. The Decepticons eventually found him, however, and Cliffjumper was forced to resume his role as a warrior. He killed three 'Cons before they even knew he was there, but had to reveal himself when the lead Decepticon took Kita and Coll hostage. Despite Cliffjumper's willing surrender, the Decepticon still struck down Kita, and Cliffjumper rushed Coll and the dying Kita to temporary safety in the barn as the Decepticons' reinforcements arrived. With Kita dead and Coll secured...Cliffjumper no longer had any reason to hold back. He killed at least seven Decepticons before hijacking their ship. Before he left, Cliffjumper brought Coll to a new family and buried Kita, leaving flowers on her grave and banging her tombstone into place with the severed head of one of his enemies. Ha-ppi-ness, ha-ppi-ness...

After the Expansion battles, Cliffjumper came to Earth with several other Autobots as reinforcements for Optimus Prime and the crew of the Ark-19 who had been stationed there. Acting on intelligence reports, they entered a deep canyon and were ambushed by the Decepticons. Cliffjumper was one of the bots to rally against the Decepticons and start turning the tide—until Devastator turned up and slagged them all. The defeated Autobots were banished to Cybertron through a one-way space bridge after the battle. All Hail Megatron #5 All Hail Megatron #6 All Hail Megatron #7 The Autobots were trapped on their home planet afterwards, watching over the critically wounded Optimus Prime while desperately searching for some traces of Energon to keep him and themselves alive. All Hail Megatron #1 They had little to occupy themselves with during downtime, and often resorted to telling old war stories to keep up the faith. Spotlight: Jazz

Cliffjumper proved just how desperate he was for a good rumble when he spent hours staring at a screen on the off chance of an emergency, then got excited over a signal that lasted 1/100th of a second! Taking a ticked off Ironhide along for the ride, he found the suspected threat... which turned out to be Hot Rod. Neither Cliffjumper or Ironhide realized this before the big guy decked Roddy. All Hail Megatron #4 Joining up with Hot Rod and the crew of the Trion, Cliffjumper and the others began to trek towards the fallen ship and its energy supply. When fleeing from the Swarm, he helped hold them off while riding Hound, who was in his jeep mode. All Hail Megatron #8 The convoy eventually made it to the barracks where Kup and the Trion crew had been squatting. While Mirage talked of giving up, Cliffjumper just expressed his satisfaction at having weapons again. All Hail Megatron #9

Cliffjumper fought the raging Swarm when they got over the other bridge (that had not been bombed by the late Sunstreaker), and was close to losing until the very timely intervention of Omega Supreme. He went with the other Autobots to Earth. All Hail Megatron #10 Then, on Earth, when the Autobots retreated from the Decepticon attack, he corrected a deluded Astrotrain by saying that they weren't running away, that they were making room—making room for Omega, who promptly slagged Devastator. All Hail Megatron #11 He survived the great battle. All Hail Megatron #12

Cliffjumper, the true face of Democracy.

Two years later, the Autobots were left in disarray when Optimus Prime surrendered himself to Skywatch, leaving them leaderless. When the Autobots decided to hold nominations for the new leader, Cliffjumper stated that he planned to nominate himself. Despite what was surely a vigorous campaign that lasted all of five minutes, Cliffjumper was one-upped by Bumblebee, who was surprisingly elected the new Autobot leader by a majority of the voters. New Arrivals, Old Encounters He was among the troops who lined up when Ultra Magnus dropped by to investigate Prime's surrender, and had to remind Bumblebee that he was supposed be in charge. A Rude Awakening After Bumblebee organized an alliance with Gordon Horiuchi, a rogue Skywatch officer, Cliffjumper helped captured Frenzy for the humans. However, when Horiuchi revealed that their next target was Blurr, he got ticked off and made it perfectly clear that they weren't capturing any of their fellow Autobots for Skywatch. In response, Horiuchi used the Skywatch badge given to Cliffjumper to temporarily trap him in vehicle mode until he calmed down. The Hanging Sword

The Autobots were none too pleased with Skywatch's ability to incapacitate any of them at any given time and thought up a plan to deactivate the badges once Bumblebee's malfunctioned. Cliffjumper almost ruined it, however, when he cheered for Bumblebee's rousing "We Shall Overcome" speech even though they were being monitored. The Impossible Knot He had learned his lesson a while later and used internal text messages to speak to his comrades instead. The Gift Horse As the Autobots continued to covertly monitor Bumblebee's progress, however, Cliffjumper could no longer restrain himself and yelled out a warning when Bumblebee bravely but foolishly threw himself into battle with the elite Decepticon, Skywarp. Wings of Wax

After the Horiuchi incident concluded and the badges were destroyed, Cliffjumper was present when Ultra Magnus returned, looking for deputies to bring in Hot Rod for colluding with the Decepticons. Enemies of the System Cliffjumper fought alongside Bumblebee and Hot Rod's teams against the new Decepticon gestalt, Menasor. Earthworks

After Bumblebee made arrangements to ally the Autobots with Skywatch full-time under Spike Witwicky's authority, the Autobots moved into the humans' bunkers. In an attempt to smooth relations and promote cultural exchange, Campolongo introduced Cliffjumper and the other Autobots to his DVD collection. Ranks of Bronze CJ was undergoing some repairs with Ratchet in the med-bay when Spike alerted them to the Combaticon presence along the demilitarized zone in Korea. The Land Ironclads

Cliffjumper was one of the Autobots deployed to South Korea as part of Skywatch's clandestine operation to counter-attack the Combaticons without contradicting the President of the United States' decree that Cybertronians were considered to be weapons of mass destruction. As the Autobots were unpacked from shipping containers, Cliffjumper overheard Spike's sarcastic remark about Optimus Prime being Patton and wondered aloud if he was referring to Patton Oswalt, eliciting a laugh from Campolongo. During the subsequent battle against the Combaticons, Cliffjumper assisted Smokescreen in trying to prevent Vortex from getting airborne but was slashed by the Decepticon's rotor blade for his trouble. In the aftermath, while he waited for repairs, he wondered why Bumblebee wasn't out on the field with the Autobots he was supposed to be in command of. Ranks of Bronze Cliffjumper then participated in the second assault on the Combaticons, though he and the others unexpectedly ended up fighting the Predacons as well. They were ultimately victorious (or rather, the Predacons left willingly when the humans attempted to nuke all combatants). All My Sins Remembered

Cliffjumper and the other members of the Korea team were sent home on a plane but were shot down by unknown assailants on the way. The Demolished Man They survived crashing in the sea and managed to walk along the ocean bottom to the nearest shore. Woken Furies The Autobots soon learned that Megatron had returned to Earth, and was responsible for shooting their plane down. Cliffjumper and the others moved to confront him, but were told to stay back by Optimus, who wanted to confirm what was going on before they attacked the Decepticons. Burning Chrome

Some six weeks later, Hot Rod (now known as Rodimus) returned to the Autobot base from space, bringing with him a revived Sunstreaker. Cliffjumper was still wary around him, seeing as how his betrayal had stranded them on Cybertron years earlier, but all the feelings of happiness floating around the camp made him more forgiving. Like most other Autobots, Cliffjumper presumably boarded Omega Supreme's rocket mode to return to Cybertron the next day. Orphans of the Helix

After arriving on Cybertron, Optimus Prime ordered Cliffjumper to coordinate the landing party while he and the others made contact with Galvatron and his forces. As they arrived, Galvatron demonstrated his control over the Kimia Facility by converting it into a space-based weapon and launching a strike on Cybertron's surface. Lamentations Optimus dispatched Cliffjumper and Wheelie to scout Galvatron's army and, before Cliffjumper could stop him, Wheelie began sniping the Sweeps from cover, alerting Galvatron to their position. The duo got pinned down and badly turned to worse when "salvation" arrived in the form of Megatron. Numbers

Run! It's John Barber!

Luckily, Megatron was more interested in killing Sweeps than Autobots, but Cliffjumper and Wheelie still fled to a safe distance to avoid getting caught in the slaughter. The situation became even direr when Galvatron's chosen nemesis, D-Void, took control of the united Sweeps and Megatron's Decepticon reinforcements, forcing them all into a humongous construct. Cliffjumper and the other Autobots fell beneath its massive destructive power, leaving only Megatron to defend the surface of Cybertron. Kings Cliffjumper could do little more than keep his head down as forces beyond his ken grappled for control of Cybertron. Genesis

As the Transformers began rebuilding their civilization on a restored Cybertron, Cliffjumper went to the reopened Maccadam's Old Oil House and had a drink with Bluestreak and Sky Lynx. A Better Tomorrow When Megatron showed up in their city, the Autobots feared he'd ruin their budding peace and attacked him, though they were prevented from killing him by the Decepticon population. City on Fire Megatron's return inevitably led to the Decepticons trying to conquer Cybertron again, and so Cliffjumper took to the streets to fight them once more. Cliffjumper was among the Autobots who fled Cybertron at the end of the Great War, being spared the destruction of Cybertron and the near-extinction of the Cybertronian race at the hands of Gozer. A thousand or so years later, Cliffjumper and Bumblebee's attention was seized by Ectronymous Diamatron's eager shout. Running the two minibots were shocked to see that a Cybertronian signal had been picked up from the nearby Earth, Cliffjumper running ahead to the bridge to inform Optimus Prime of these findings. "It all began on the day of my actual birth. Both of my parents failed to show up."

Like all Cybertronians, Cliffjumper's life began when he emerged from the great Pyramid in Iacon. Unlike everyone else however, his birth was an accident, emerging mere hours after Bumblebee to an empty courtyard, save a rather rude Voin and Sentinel. Wannabee, Part 2 The rest of Cliffjumper's life would largely follow the same pattern; in his job as a sanitation engineer, his co-workers would constantly mistake him for his more famous lookalike. Wannabee, Part 1

Before the outbreak of the Great War, Cliffjumper was chosen by Ambassador Deathsaurus to accompany him to the planet Probat. Upon arriving at the bleak organic world, Cliffjumper soon discovered that the native species all but worshipped Bumblebee, who had helped set-up the planet's energon refinery, and Deathsaurus had brought him along to act as a shiny distraction for the serfs, whose echolocation based vision blinded them to the chromatic difference between Cliffjumper and Bumblebee. Brought to a Probat dwelling, Cliffjumper learnt that evolution had led to the aliens being capable of secreting energon and that, when superheated, their leavings became ultra-refined energon crystals. Running off to share this discovery with Deathsaurus, Cliffjumper arrived in time to see that the ambassador had murdered Natalus. After Cliffjumper explained his discovery, Deathsaurus sampled the crystal and decided to burn the Probat civilization to the ground, promising Cliffjumper a portion of the bounty if he cooperated. Wannabee, Part 1

When Cliffjumper refused to take part in a genocide however, he found himself shoved into a wall. No sooner had he extradited himself did he learn that Deathsaurus had exposed him as a "false 'Bee" who had slain Natalus. Fleeing an angry mob, Cliffjumper managed to pick up a Probat child who explained more of Natalus and Deathsaurus' machinations on her society. Cajoled into taking the child with him, Cliffjumper charged at Deathsaurus, receiving a boost of energy when the girl delivered an ultra-refined crystal into his system, and managed to impale the draconic ambassador on one of the newly catalyzed energon spires. After scuttling the energon facility, Cliffjumper gave the Probats their wings back, becoming the planet's new hero and getting a statue made in his likeness. Wannabee, Part 2

  • In "Laserbeak's Fury", Cliffjumper's only appearance in the Ladybird Books, he is colored yellow like his original toy's variant.
