This article is about . For other uses of "Space Case", see Space Case (disambiguation)|The name or term "Space Case" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Space Case (disambiguation).}}
Space Case is a Decepticon from the Dark of the Moon portion of the movie continuity family.
Yeah, well... you movie guys look like Bionicles!

Space Case is pretty excitable. He thinks humans all look the same and that they're "fleshy and gross". He also underestimates how easy it might be for humans to use his peers' weaponry on him.

He's also fast. Extremely fast. In fact, that's the only reason he hasn't been defeated, as he has a mind that's on the fritz and hence is only slightly more intelligent than the average rock. He thinks he's survived all this time because of all the Cyberglyphs tattooed on his armor, but it's probably because he's just that fast, and fast targets are hard to hit.<ref>Dark of the Moon Deluxe Class Space Case packaging bio.</ref>

Detaining a group of Autobot prisoners in Kaon, Space Case and the other Decepticons suddenly came under attack by Leadfoot, who single-handedly defeated or destroyed them. In fact, Space Case's malfunctioning mind was courtesy of the stout Autobot engineer, whom he fought in a one-on-one battle and lost to. The Story of Leadfoot

Space Case tried to force a gas station attendant to give him all of his energon. When the befuddled human expressed confusion, Space Case flew into a rage and accused the human of making fun of him. A nearby Jazz chose that moment to intervene, opining that Space Case was making fun of himself by trying to rob a gas station. The two fought briefly, with Space Case now convinced that Jazz was also making fun of him (which he was) before Space Case got the upper hand on the much smaller Autobot and pinned him to the ground with his trident. Jazz was then able to ignite the station's underground gasoline tanks and speed off safely with the attendant, seemingly destroying Space Case.

Space Case came howling out of the flames, intent on getting revenge on Jazz. Though Space Case was able to get his hands on him, Jazz deftly countered with a series of acrobatic moves, and when Space Case growled at him to shut up, Jazz told the Decepticon not to "knock his hustle". Distracted by Jazz's non-stop shuckin' and jivin', Space Case failed to notice that Jazz's seemingly stray crescent cannon shots had in fact dangerously weakened the cliff face behind him. The resulting rockslide buried the Decepticon. Transformers: Jazz

Shortly after waking up from a flying-related dream, Space Case climbed out of the hole he possibly crashed into and noticed a crack that wasn't there before on the cavern wall. He busted a hole through the crack and was ready to leave when he noticed he was not alone. Hiding on a nearby ledge, he recognized his pursuers as Arcee and Bumblebee along with some Earthling. After hearing a mocking question by Sam about who would hide in a big ol' hole in the ground, he took offense (and his trident), jumped out, and attacked Arcee. A fight broke out, and Space Case apprehensively asked why they were picking on him. Sam responded that they were just trying to help, but as the fight continued, Space Case was having none of it. Realizing he needed to get out, he then proceeded to transform into his jet and fly out of there as fast as he could, away from all of this yelling and towards the outside world. "Look daddy, look what I can do!"

After using his plasma engines to cause a cave-in that trapped Arcee, Bumblebee and Sam in an underground cavern, he remained in the area when Ratchet came to investigate Arcee's distress call. Despite the advantage of surprise on two separate occasions, and despite the cyberglyphics he had inscribed on his armor in the belief that they would protect him, Space Case was handily defeated by the Autobot medic and fled the scene, swearing ungrammatical revenge. Transformers: Ratchet

With Arcee in hot pursuit, the wounded Decepticon headed into a densely populated city. Despite his engine damage, he still had a significant speed advantage over Arcee. When he managed to get far enough from her, Space Case became sidetracked by his quest for repairs; specifically, he chose to wade into Denton's Auto Mart and demand all their spare Cybertronian parts and a technician to repair his engine with them. Not only did this scheme meet with predictably little success, but it also delayed him long enough for Arcee to catch up to him. Panicking, Space Case threw Arcee through a storefront and took to the air in another attempt to escape. Determined, she sped after Space Case, used a building to ramp up to his altitude, and destroyed his other engine. Space Case went plummeting into the distance, headed for the waterfront. As he vanished from sight, Space Case promised to be back. Transformers: Arcee

Plummeting into the sea next to a waterfront amusement park, Space Case was detected by an incoming Starscream. Tired of "bein' pushed around", Space Case immediately attacked Starscream, punching him into a Ferris wheel. Starscream hauled himself up and opened fire on Space Case, but quickly realised the identity of the rogue Decepticon. Realizing that Space Case was stupid enough to manipulate, Starscream reverted his insults and started to lay on the compliments, hoping to recruit him as the first soldier in his new army. With Starscream's promised reward for him being the Earth, Space Case eventually joined him. They then walked away from the ruined pier as the sun was setting. Transformers: Starscream

Space Case and several other Decepticons were led to Philadelphia by Starscream, where Sam Witwicky and Bumblebee were harboring their escaped "pet", Brains. After joining his master in tailing and firing at Sam and Wheelie, Space Case followed Brains to a human female. Though his attention was briefly averted from her when Sam hit him in the leg with a pipe, Carly quickly returned the favor by operating a weapon from the dead remains of Storm Surge to blast him. Though Space Case wasn't destroyed, it did frazzle him enough to allow the two humans to escape. Rising Storm #3

Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey, lady. Lady. Space. Space. Hey. Gotta go to space.
  • Accessories: Trident/Spear
  • Known designers: Andrew Scribner (deco artist){{#if: |, {{{2}}}}}
A Target exclusive redeco of Terradive making use of the sculpt's alternate head, Space Case transforms into a forward-swept wing fighter jet based on the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Sukhoi Su-47|{{#if:||Sukhoi Su-47}}]]. In robot mode, he is armed with a polearm weapon, which can transform between a trident and a spear and stores via C joint clip on his underside in jet mode, or on the back of his left shoulder in robot mode. (This clip is a bit of a reversal from the norm, as the clip is permanently attached to the robot, and the spear weapon is the 3mm bar.) As his jet thrusters swing around to become his hands, they can be left in vehicle configuration to simulate movie-style blasters.
As with the other Deluxe Target-exclusive "Cyberglyph" versions of Arcee, Bumblebee and Autobot Jazz cast out of clear plastic, Space Case is mostly cast in smoky, clear blue plastic and features Cyberglyphics tattooed on his large forward-swept and smaller side wings and on his forearms/thrusters, as well as a larger Cyberglyph on the center of the jet.
He comes with a comic book by IDW Publishing, Transformers: Space Case.
In contrast to the rest of his translucent jet body, the back wings and a small square patch near his cockpit are molded of opaque blue plastic, presumably for durability reasons.
He was also made available in Canada as a Zellers exclusive, in New Zealand as a Farmers exclusive (both in English-only US-style packaging minus the "only at Target" sticker), in the United Kingdom as a Tesco exclusive, and in Germany as a Müller exclusive (both in typical multilingual European packaging including a multilingual comic).
The original version of this mold was also used to make Depth Charge.

Notes

[edit]
  • Space Case's new noggin was depicted in Terradive's instructions (a common occurrence at the time), most likely before the would-be redeco/retool was even assigned a name and identity. The actual character's appearance in the Rising Storm comics also hinted at the toy before it was officially announced.
  • A preliminary version of Space Case, shown as part of a display of prototypes at HasCon 2017, featured a deco much closer to that of his Generation 2 namesake.
