A laser is a ranged weapon used by some Transformers. While lasers come in a wide variety of designs of all shapes and sizes that can produce varying effects (see below) there are also rank-and-file Autobots and Decepticons whose lot in life is to go into battle equipped with nothing but an ordinary, simple laser.
Fiction
Marvel The Transformers comics
Chromedome was armed with dual lasers in robot mode which were mounted on his roof in car mode and automatically targeted by his hood-mounted infrared rangefinder. Chromedome's Universe profile Dreadwind's veritable arsenal of weaponry included lasers. Dreadwind's Universe profile In robot mode Topspin wielded hand-mounted lasers. Topspin's Universe profile
Dreamwave Generation One continuity
Bomb-Burst was armed with dual lasers in both vehicle and robot modes. Bomb-Burst's More than Meets the Eye profile In insect mode Chop Shop had two precision lasers in his mouth. Chop Shop's More than Meets the Eye profile Cyclonus's space jet mode was fitted with side-mounted lasers. Cyclonus's More than Meets the Eye profile In vehicle mode Downshift utilised door-mounted lasers and a roof-mounted energy net launcher. Downshift's More than Meets the Eye profile Seaspray was armed with a battery of lasers in both robot and hovercraft modes. Variety of lasers
The more standardised laser weapons used by Transformers include:
Lasers with more unique and unusual functions include:
- An electro-laser reverses microcircuit polarity, leaving robots motionless.
- Photon lasers electromagnetize robotic circuits.
- A musket laser shoots hydrochloric acid.
- A decelerator laser inhibits robotic cerebral impulses.
- A maceration laser shoots salty corrosive liquids.
- An oxidating laser fuses a robot's internal mechanisms.
- Slime lasers shoot gooey adhesives.
- Venom lasers cause paralysis.
- A thunderbolt laser pistol presumably shoots bolts of electricity.
- X-ray lasers.
- "Stunner" lasers.
- Some types of lasers shoot direct current electricity.
- Other lasers produce intense wind funnels.
- Tethers which propel space elevators up into orbit.
Notes
- In real life, a laser produces a tightly focused beam of light. Transformers seem to use the word "laser" as a synonym for "high-tech gun".
