Power Core Combiners is a brand new franchise that is, thus far, ambiguous towards its continuity affilliation. Power Core Combiners use (duh) combining as the major gimmick. The toy line consists of two major size classes: 2 Packs ( Commanders with Mini-Cons) and 5 Packs (Commanders with four drones each).

Commanders are able to combine with any of the drones included with 5-packs. You can mix and match the drones, since they have universal pegs like Scramble City-type combiners. Each drone is a vehicle that turns into a limb (no robot modes, similar to Energon Optimus's toy). Plugging the vehicle in causes the drone to automorph into a limb. Unplugging it causes the limb to—what else?—transform back into a vehicle.

Instead of becoming miniature vehicles, the line's accompanying Mini-Cons have multiple modes that revolve around interacting with a Commander. Besides a small robot mode, these Mini-Cons can also become armor for their Commanders, and different weapons or tools for their Commander's robot and vehicle modes.

Ancient Power Core Combination technology was thought to be lost forever, but the Autobots surprisingly rediscovered it on Earth. The Decepticons were quick to steal this technology from the Autobots and use its interchangeable robot combination systems for themselves.

Commander 2-packs

Every Commander figure has two heads—one for robot mode, one for torso mode. Each Commander's torso mode can combine with 5-pack drones (see below), and each set includes a unique Mini-Con. Commanders also have standard Mini-Con ports, so they are compatible with any Mini-Cons, not just the transparent, neon-colored new ones.

5-packs

1 core robot/vehicle & 4 drone-vehicle limbs. Drones can attach to any Commander 2-pack bot to make new combinations. Arm-drones and leg-drones cannot swap functions. The drones have an automatic "deploy" transformation when they attach, and an automatic retract feature to vehicle mode when detached. Each drone has Mini-Con powerlinx hardpoints.
