The battle against Scorponok continues as Optimus tries to reach out to the colossus.
Synopsis
Optimus Prime stares in horror as Scorponok rises to full height, as the Decepticons come to grips with their new position. Megatron orders Scorponok forward, and the battle resumes! Optimus guards his allies with an arm-mounted energy shield, quickly devising a new strategy. He orders Bumblebee and Elita-1 to circle around to Scorponok's undefended rear while he, Grimlock, and Snarl run interference for them. Sky-Byte tries to intercept Elita and Bee, but after they leave his field of view the shark focuses on the Dinobots without any more success. Megatron furiously opens fire on Grimlock, only to be struck by Snarl's razor wind, in turn giving Grimlock an opening to fire on Megatron as well. Scorponok draws his own blade on Megatron's orders (much to Bumblebee's dismay), and moves to cut down Optimus Prime only to be intercepted again by Snarl. The stegosaurus manages to parry Scorponok's massive blade, rapidly scaling the colossus' arm to get within reach of Megatron... only to be abruptly shot out of the air by the Decepticon leader. Optimus swiftly tackles the stunned Snarl to safety, barely avoiding Scorponok's swing. His follow-up strike is caught by Grimlock and while he manages to keep it from hitting his friends, Megatron twists the blade, injuring the mighty Dinobot. Snarl, furious at seeing Grimlock hurt, charges Scorponok as Optimus checks on him. Prime believes they need to retreat with how injured he is, but Grimlock dismisses the concern, transforming into a mech for Optimus to pilot back into the fray.
Bumblebee and Elita-1 are halfway up Scorponok’s back when ‘bee tells her he has a new plan, to head all the way to the top. Elita doesn’t argue, ambushing Sky-Byte and dispatching the shark with a shot from her rifle. Metron angrily ejects his minion, hurling him over the horizon. Seeing the direction the battle’s going, Chop Shop panics and transforms Scorponok’s buzzsaw arm into a motorcycle, jettisoning it as an escape vehicle. Bumblebee reaches Scorponok’s shoulder, pleading with him to listen to Optimus… and Scorponok agrees! As his turret stops responding, Megatron jumps up to Bumblebee’s position to silence him. As the two lock blades, Optimus entreats Scorponok to stand down, telling him Megatron intends to use him as a weapon. Megatron almost executes Bumblebee with his cannon, only for a sudden movement by Scorponok to shake his balance. Bumblebee takes advantage of the momentary distraction, kicking Megatron off the shoulder. Megatron retakes his firing position, demanding that Scorponok destroy the Autobots… and finds his order refused. Scorponok isn’t happy to have been deceived and grabs the Decepticon leader. Megatron breaks out of his grip and readies his cannon as Scorponok transforms. The two fire, their beams colliding as Optimus begs them to stop before they destroy each other. Megatron finds himself overpowered but refuses to back down. Optimus’ pleas are likewise ignored by Scorponok, and as Megatron starts to disintegrate, he gives Optimus one final grin.

The two foes say each other’s names one last time, and in a flash of light, Megatron is gone. His axe flies out of the inferno, landing in the sand beside Optimus as he can only stare at the spot the Decepticon leader stood.

Quotes
"Whilst he was out digging holes in the sand, I was studying the blade."
- — Snarl being Snarl
"Mighty Scorponok. I, Optimus Prime, come to you in the interest of peace. Megatron intends to conquer this planet. He is using you as a weapon. I know you have been mistreated here, but that will only continue if you allow Megatron to control you! Please, stand down. You can clear our path to freedom, that we may return to free all of Cyberworld!"
- — Optimus Prime finally gets to make a speech
“Megatron…”
“Optimus.”
- — Optimus Prime watches as Megatron goes out with a smile
Notes
Continuity notes
- Bumblebee’s sword has shown up in his HUD since episode 8 but this is the first time he’s used it on-screen.
- Elita-1 puts an end to her vendetta with Sky-Byte, first established all the way back in episode 4.
- His death marks the only time Megatron’s called him ‘Optimus’ rather than just ‘Prime’ in Transformers: Cyberworld, an intentional choice by the writers.[1]
Character levels
- Optimus and Bumblebee are both down to mid-level 7, the two dropping even farther to low level 6 by the episode's end.
- Megatron starts at high level 6 but drops all the way to the middle of level 4 by the time he’s dueling Bumblebee.
Real world references
- The camera movement when Optimus gives his orders is meant to echo a video game seamlessly shifting from a cutscene into gameplay.[2]
- This episode was heavily influenced by Shadow of the Colossus.[3]
- Continuing the running gag of Snarl being an otaku, he paraphrases the infamous I Studied the Blade copypasta.
- After she shoots Sky-Byte, Elita lands in a pose reminiscent of Black Widow’s in famous 'superhero landing' in Avengers.
- Megatron’s sword is based on Yin Tiger’s from Black Myth: Wukong, a previous role that belonged to his actor James Alexander.[4]
Trivia
- The Cybertronian text that pops up in Bumblebee's HUD while climbing reads 'GRIP'.
- After Chop Shop makes off with his right arm, Scorponok replaces it with his sword. Sadly the toy’s connectors don’t let it replicate this.
- The normal credits theme doesn’t play this episode, instead filling the time with the sound of desert wind.
- This episode was originally uploaded with That's Gotta Sting (Part 1).
