Diver Attack

The Diver Attack (ダイバーアタック) is one of Diver's signature moves that despite its name is not much of an attack and everyone knows it. The gist of it is that in beast mode, his robot head is located inside the frog's mouth and he can thrust it out for a surprise punch. It makes for an attack with a very limited range and use and perhaps that's why he rarely triggers Diver Attack in any combat capacity. Instead, he relies on it as a form of self-expression and to get his eyes where they're of use, somewhat like a periscope.

[edit]Diver refused to take back his last move in a game of shougi, so Tasmania Kid accused him of being mean. Diver shot out his neck in exasperation. Later, when meeting up after acquiring beast modes on Gaia, Tasmania Kid didn't recognize Diver at first and thought he was a quaint but otherwise normal frog. Diver did his Diver Attack to show it was him, which did not hit Tasmania Kid but did startle him. Again later, he also launched out in anger when Tasmania Kid suggested that the Lio Convoy Unit wouldn't suffer that much if anything bad happened to Diver. The New Forces Arrive! When Tasmania Kid helped Diver up after saving him from Megastorm, Diver let his robot head out of his frog head to complain about his ordeal. Bighorn's Rage Diver's robot head shot out of his frog head in shock when the Combatrons attacked him, his colleagues, and Insectrons. Friend or Foe? The Insect Robos Diver got captured by Tripledacus and activated his Diver Attack less to attack and more to have a better look at the Magma Horn threatening him. The Combined Giant, Tripledacus Diver barely raised his robot head from his frog mouth in surprise when he realized the goo all over him prevented him from transforming. A Fearsome Combination Plan? In an argument whether the Maximals or the Predacons were stronger, Diver brought up his Diver Attack and Diver in the Maximals' favor. Galvatron promptly declared the Predacons the winner of the first round. Who Is the Strongest Warrior!?
The Maximal Brainwashing Operation
[edit]While brainwashed by the Predacons, Diver attacked Bighorn by hitting him in the face with the Diver Attack. He also used it to peek over Tasmania Kid after the both of them had returned to normal. The Maximal Brainwashing Operation

[edit]As the only Maximal who liked the rain, Diver went on patrol on his own. In a good mood and, after all, a frog, he began to sing and was subsequently beset by a horde of lovestruck frogs. Unable to clear up the misunderstanding with words, he threw out his Diver Attack to scare them off. They ran off, but whether this was because of the Diver Attack or because of the approach of the Galvatron Dekazura Tank is uncertain. Demolish the Superdreadnought Tank! Diver considered his options to save Bighorn from a rock flying his way and chose to use Diver Shabon over Diver Attack. All Hands, Make a Special Attack on the Evil Planet!
Notes
[edit]- Diver Attack is based on the way real frogs use their tongues, only while a frog tongue is sticky and used to catch prey, the Diver Attack is a straightforward punch. Nonetheless, in the fiction, Diver's beast mode has an actual tongue separate from his Diver Attack component. It's not addressed if there's any utility to this tongue.
- Diver Attack, like Buffalo Missile, originates as a toy gimmick. As Beast Wars II made it a point to promote the toys' versatility, such gimmicks were given fictional presence.
