Wanna make somethin' of it?

Megatron used to be the cruel and merciless leader of the Decepticons, who fought against Optimus Prime and his Autobots across both Cybertron and Earth.

These days, however, he's reformed. He now works with Optimus and his Autobots, as well as G.H.O.S.T., to protect the people of Earth, human and Cybertronian alike. However, that doesn't mean he follows Optimus blindly. Megatron cares deeply for his former troops, and does NOT appreciate G.H.O.S.T.’s treatment of them. He’s trying to make the best of a bad situation, in the name of peace, but there’s still a bit of tension between the two leaders. He has, however, forged a lasting friendship with fellow veteran Dot Malto.

As much as he has his doubts in the alliance with G.H.O.S.T., he doesn't regret turning away from what he was becoming. Though the other Decepticons call him "traitor", he's the only one who still believes in their original vision: a peaceful and plentiful future for the Cybertronian race. He sees the Terrans as the embodiment of that hope, and wants to make sure they don't make the same mistakes he now regrets.

"I'm afraid I can't let you do that, Megatron"

Megatron led the Decepticons in a war against the Autobots on Cybertron. However, things changed when the war moved to Earth and Megatron came to realize how far he strayed from his original ideals when he encountered the human soldier, Dot Malto. Warzone At some point, the two fought together in the Battle of Burbank.Secret Legacy, Part 2 Megatron later convinced Optimus Prime of his change of spark by scanning an Earth alternate mode, taking on the form of a helicopter so he could defend Dot and other human soldiers from a seeker attack. Outtakes When the Decepticons moved the source of Cybertronian life, the AllSpark, off their home world and brought it to Earth to try and create a new Decepticon army, Megatron realized how dire the war had become. He aided Optimus in the final battle of the war, where he snuck behind enemy lines and stole the AllSpark from his former friend and subordinate, Shockwave. Imprisoning Shockwave and fighting through his own former soldiers as he tried to return the AllSpark to Cybertron, Megatron could only gaze in awe as it looked like the AllSpark was destroyed after he hurled it through space bridge, which exploded when Optimus fired a shot at it. Warzone With both factions now stranded on Earth and the war essentially over, Megatron began working with both the Autobots and humans, including Dot Malto as part of Platoon Cyber Strike, to rebuild the damage the war had caused and round up resisting Decepticons, many of whom regarded Megatron as a traitor. He and Optimus began working with the secret human organization G.H.O.S.T. Secret Legacy, Part 1

When someone began attacking G.H.O.S.T. convoys near Witwicky, Megatron arrived to help Optimus and Elita-1, and was reunited with Dot. Secret Legacy, Part 1 Their investigation led them to Dot's kids, who had encountered two new Terran Transformers, Thrash and Twitch. After the two Terrans were botnapped by Mandroid, Megatron and the others had to assault the scientist's base to rescue them. Secret Legacy, Part 2 Megatron was training in a simulator provided by G.H.O.S.T. when Bumblebee contacted him looking for advice on getting Twitch and Thrash to listen to him. Megatron's advice was not all that helpful. Moo-ving In Megatron and Optimus found themselves struggling in battle against Frenzy, Laserbeak and Ravage after the cassettebots stole Agent Schloder's ID badge. With Bumblebee's help, the trio were captured, though Megatron was beginning to regret how they were treating his former comrades. On the way back to the G.H.O.S.T. base, they were attacked by Soundwave, and though Soundwave was defeated and captured, Megatron opted to let the three cassettebot minions go. Decoy

During an Autobot Alliance ceremony at G.H.O.S.T., Megatron and Optimus found themselves battling Skywarp and Nova Storm, who had come aiming to get hold of Optimus's left arm. Though they fought the pair off, Megatron believed the battle would not help cement human/Cybertronian relations. When the two seekers were later captured, Megatron and Dot went to take the pair in to captivity, only to discover it was a trap. They were instead imprisoned by Mandroid, who had machinery ready to disassemble Megatron. Age of Evolution, Part 1 Optimus and the Terrans arrived posing as captives of three new Terrans, and though the plan was exposed almost immediately, it succeeded in freeing Megatron. Mandroid's base turned out to be a huge mech, and Megatron and Twitch provided air support while the others took out the mech's cameras. When the time came to destroy the mech's cannon, Megatron was too injured to continue, leading Twitch to carry out the task instead. In the aftermath, Megatron pointed out the lack of G.H.O.S.T. backup to Optimus, but the Autobot leader pointed out the Terrans and humans that they had fought alongside as the true alliance. Age of Evolution, Part 2

Sometime after the battle, Megatron was performing cleanup duty with Elita-1 when he was approached by the young Terran, Jawbreaker, who nervously asked how he got his current an alt-mode. Taken aback at this, as no one had ever asked him that question before, Megatron sat down with the young bot and told him how he got his tiltrotor alt-mode. He at first thought it unfair to lose his Cybertronian alt-mode but had to make a quick decision when Dot Malto's squad came under attack and their unit needed air support. The other Terran present, Hashtag, then began replaying footage of this moment but was quickly told to stop by Jawbreaker for drudging up bad memories. Outtakes

Megatron later brought the Malto children and Terrans to the Spacebridge Memorial Park. Despite the location bringing up bad memories, Megatron taught the children the true history of the final battle of the war, mainly that the AllSpark's seeming destruction meant Cybertron itself was also destroyed and the Transformers stranded on Earth were the only remaining survivors of their species. His history lesson was interrupted by the returning Shockwave, freed from the stasis chamber Megatron had long ago trapped him. Vowing that the war wouldn't end so long as he functioned, Shockwave and Megatron battled it out until Megatron got the drop on him with a shot from The Immobilizer, once again forcibly putting Shockwave into stasis-lock. As the morning dawned and Shockwave was taken into custody by G.H.O.S.T., Megatron gave some parting words of advice to the Terrans, not to simply just learn from their Autobot/Decepticon seniors, but to be better than they were. Warzone

Mandroid used a hologram of Megatron as an avatar to fight the Malto kids when they were trapped in the Autobot rec room. Disarmed Following a jail break by Starscream, Megatron disregarded Croft's instructions and secretly pursued his former subordinate into an unused cave system. He found both the missing Decepticons and the Malto kids in a fight with the Dweller, and afterwards offered Starscream a safe haven rather than taking him back to G.H.O.S.T., though the offer was refused. What Dwells Within Megatron continued to be frustrated by Croft's refusal to let him go after Starscream. Optimus turned out to share his concerns about G.H.O.S.T., revealing to Megatron that he'd had Bumblebee infiltrate the base to investigate the areas they were barred from. Stowed Away, Stowaways

Receiving a distress call from Hashtag using an old Decepticon frequency, Megatron headed to the Malto farm with Optimus and a group of Autobots to help defend it against Croft's squad of Ghoids. Though they were triumphant, Croft activated a Mandroid-supplied device that knocked out Megatron and the Autobots present. The Battle of Witwicky Megatron and the others remained out-cold while Mandroid began enacting his plan to turn the spacebridge into a worldwide energon-draining superweapon The Last Hope, Part 1 but he and the others were brought back online under Mandroid's control so that they could protect the weapon. Megatron was directed at Twitch and she was just able to avoid being fragged until Starscream arrived to keep his former leader busy. When Mandroid activated the superweapon, the pair were deactivated and dropped from the sky, later being reactivated when Robby and Mo used their cyber-sleeves to reverse the effects. The Last Hope, Part 2

To help the Maltos retrieve the Decepticon’s Emberstone shards, Megatron participated in a diversionary battle at the shipyards. He grappled with Starscream in the air over a shard container. He tried to talk Starscream down, but the seeker was beyond reason. Skywarp and Nova Storm managed to double-team Megatron, and Starscream grabbed the container exposing the ruse. Aftermath

When Twitch and Spitfire could not agree on who should go on an important Autobot mission, Megatron invoked the Polyhex Protocol to settle the dispute. This consisted of an obstacle course in which all of the Maltos and Spitfire would compete. Megatron started the competion with a blast from his alt mode and monitored the contestant’s progress. Spitfire proved to be a ruthless competitor and severed Alex’s zip line, forcing Twitch to rescue him. Megatron witnessed the save from the air. When Spitfire loudly objected to Twitch being declared the winner, Megatron responded that the protocols demanded the winner demonstrate a sense of honor. Spitfire furiously attacked Twitch in retaliation, and Megatron insisted that Twitch must face her alone. Spitfire

Megatron was a part of the Terran/Autobot strike force that stormed the Decepticon base. He traded barbs with his former underlings as the battle began. He and the others were frozen in place when Starscream had Spitfire unleash the power of the corrupted Emberstone. He was returned to normal when the Emberstone was destroyed. Witwicky, Part 2

When an Autobot spacecraft landed in the dome, Megatron, along with Optimus and the Maltos, went to investigate. As they entered the dome, Megatron and Optimus bickered over the best way to proceed. They discovered that Shockwave's Decepticons were already at the ship blasting away at it until they were repulsed by the ship's autocannons. The ship then targeted Megatron, who had to remain behind cover with Dot while the others went on until he was forced to emerge to stop Ravage scouting the ship, resulting in him coming into conflict with Prowl. As part of a plan to recharge the ship, Megatron attempted to fly to Terratronus's helm, only to be struck by chaos lightning and forced down. He recovered in time to later save the kids when they fell. Unfortunately the ship had been commandeered by Shockwave's forces, and Megatron turned down Shockwave's offer of a place on board in favor of saving Optimus's life when the Autobot leader fell from the ship. No Soldier Left Behind

An outbreak of Hate Plague in the Autobot base left Optimus and Megatron at odds over the next course of action, as Megatron believed they should abandon base to seek help. As it turned out, Optimus was infected in their attempt to reach the base entrance, and though Megatron and Twitch used the Hypershuttle to reach the Arctic, Megatron too revealed he had been infected. He and his old enemy fought, until it turned out the extreme cold was an effective cure for the plague. Fire and Ice During the following investigation, Prowl, Thrash and Robby questioned Megatron regarding his whereabouts the previous day. The Truth Is Out There

The arrival of a Quintesson ship had the Autobots and Maltos turn out to greet it. Following the destruction of the Chaos Dome, Megatron attempted to escort Mo and Robby up to the ship, only to be shot down and caught by Prowl. They rejoined the others in time to hear Nightshade's plan to deal with the chaos storm that the Quintessons had unleashed. Judgment Day, Part 1 Megatron was ready to take part in the plan, but Optimus sent Prowl and Cosmos to carry it out instead. When it all went terribly wrong, Megatron stepped in to save Prowl's life, using the Cyber Slayer to revive the Autobot and returning the earlier favor. The kids escaped from the Quintesson ship in their cyber-synced form, but were shot down in the process and as a result Twitch was seriously injured. Megatron transported her and Wheeljack to safety so she could be repaired, returning with her fully healed after the Quintesson ship had been destroyed. Judgment Day, Part 2

EarthSpark

[edit]
The TakaraTomy releases of some toys feature additional/altered paint patterns (complete with G.H.O.S.T. emblems) to make him closely resemble the character's on-screen appearances.

  • Megatron (Tacticon, 2022)
Released in the first wave of the EarthSpark "Tacticon assortment", Megatron is a small figure that converts from a small tiltrotor aircraft into an unposeable robot with just a single step controlled by your fingertip.

"Hey guys, check out this disembodied arm I found!" (Hasbro Version Pictured)
  • Megatron (Deluxe, 2022)
  • TakaraTomy ID Number: ESD-02
  • Accessories: Two-part cannon, left arm for Mandroid (Hasbro release only)
Released as part of the first wave of Earthspark Deluxe Class figures, Megatron is a show-accurate mold that transforms into a stylized tiltrotor aircraft. His arm cannon splits in two to form parts of his vehicle mode engines. He also comes with a Build a Figure piece, in this case: a left arm for Mandroid.
(TakaraTomy Version Pictured)
A later variant of Megatron has new packaging and omits the BAF piece, mainly sold at Walmart.
The TakaraTomy release of the figure has more paint operations to make him more show-accurate and omits the Mandroid BAF piece.
Box renders show Megatron with a cannon on his arm and another cannon held in his hand.

  • Megatron (Warrior, 2023)
  • Accessories: cannon/spear
Released in the second wave of Earthspark Warrior Class figures, this version of Megatron is a simplified Deluxe-sized figure. His robot mode does have a cleaner silhouette plus a waist swivel compared to the Deluxe, but he lacks neck and thigh articulation. The alternate mode does use the actual cockpit on his chest instead of faux parts. Like many contemporary figures, Megatron features 5 mm ports in his feet.
His cannon features a deployable blade from its barrel. It stores on the top of the helicopter mode. According to the instructions and digital turnaround, the pegs on the sides of the cannon are meant to allow it to attach to a port on the underside of the helicopter. However, the needed port has been removed on the final toy.

  • Megatron (1-Step Flip Changer, 2023)
  • TakaraTomy Name: Supatto Change Megatron
  • TakaraTomy ID Number: ESS-02
Released in the third wave of Hasbro's "1-Step Flip Changer" assortment, Megatron is a simple toy that converts from robot to vehicle and vice versa by being folded inside-out/outside-in. The change to helicopter mode can be done automatically by pressing the button between his legs; this can also be done by simply tipping him face-forward, which makes the trigger connect with the ground before his upper body does and activating the spring-loaded transformation mechanism.
(TakaraTomy Version Pictured)
The TakaraTomy version of this toy, released in the first wave of their Earthspark line, has significantly more paint on him so he better reflects the show model. His GHOST/Decepticon symbol is also black instead of purple.

  • Megatron (1-Step Smash Changer, 2025)
Part of the first wave of "1-Step Smash Changers", this version of Megatron is a LOT like his prior 1-Step toy. However, this time it's the vehicle-to-robot transformation that's spring-activated: triggered by holding the fins at the rear of his vehicle mode and smashing him against a surface (or just press down on the fins if you're boring). The toy is reset by pulling his body back down.
He sports a regular Decepticon symbol instead of a GHOST one as reflected in later episodes of the show. His wings have hinges that are seemingly only for fitting in his box as they go mentioned, though folding them in robot mode does emulate his fusion cannon.

$5 extra gets you Uranium poisoning
  • Cyberglow Megatron (Deluxe, 2025)
Released as the sole figure of the ninth wave of Earthspark Deluxe Class figures, Cyberglow Megatron is a redeco of his Warrior Class toy. His G.H.O.S.T. emblem has been changed to a Decepticon insignia and he trades the paint on his clavicles and tailfins for glow-in-the-dark paint on his chest, shoulders, and foreams. He comes with a rubbery glow-in-the-dark energon mace in place of his fusion cannon. He is now sold at a Deluxe pricepoint, possibly to account for the cost of the glow-in-the-dark materials.
Cyberglow Megatron is the first standard mass retail Transformers toy to feature glow-in-the-dark elements!

Notes

[edit]
I thought he looked familiar!
  • Megatron being an ex-villain harkens back to his 2005 IDW counterpart. Unlike IDW's Megatron, however, this Megatron retains his Decepticon insignia. This version of Megatron also draws design elements from his IDW counterpart, as evident from the concept art collage<ref>ArtStation post by ArtCup 21 November 2022</ref> (at right), which includes Flame Toys' model kit based on Alex Milne's 2014 Autobot design.
  • The EarthSpark series production bible described Megatron as turning into "his own version of a" weaponized Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey.
  • Megatron calling Twitch "little bird" is likely a reference to the same nickname used by voice actor Rory McCann's character, Sandor "the Hound" Clegane, for Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones.
