Early during the war on Cybertron, the warriors who would later become the Dinobots began to suspect that one day they might become fed up with Optimus Prime's leadership and strike out on their own. In preparation, they snuck into a Decepticon spaceport, stole a number of ships, and hid them in the Rad Zone. A Savage Circle

Slag was among the Autobots selected to accompany Optimus Prime aboard the Ark on a mission to clear a path for Cybertron] through an asteroid belt. The Transformers After their ship crashed on Earth, the Dinobots were reactivated to deal with Shockwave. The team tracked Shockwave to the Savage Land. During the battle, Shockwave was buried under a collapsed mountain, but the Dinobots ended up in a tar pit where they stayed for four million years. Information on this battle was stored on the Ark's memory banks and were discovered four million years later by Ratchet The Last Stand, and Ratchet, at the moment the last Autobot on Earth that remained functional, tempted Megatron with details of Shockwave's alleged defeat as currency for a deal with him. Warrior School! Slag was the first Dinobot Ratchet uncovered from the tar pit; Ratchet probed his memory bank to find out what had happened to the team. Awakened by the probe, a confused and enraged Slag nearly attacked Ratchet, but stopped once he realized he was an Autobot. Told that Shockwave lived again, Slag readily agreed on behalf of the Dinobots to hunt him down once more. However, the Dinobots had to deal with Megatron first; they did not fare well. After Ratchet managed to defeat the Decepticon leader, the Dinobots accompanied him back to the Ark. Repeat Performance!

On the way, Ratchet tried to explain to the Dinobots that scaring the piss out of humans wasn't a good idea, but the lesson didn't really take. At the Ark, they were confronted by a little going-away present from Shockwave — the defense drone known as Guardian, reprogrammed to attack the Autobots. Decepticon Dam-Busters! Slag and the others did little damage to the battle droid before Ratchet chased it off by blasting a weak spot on Guardian with a laser emitter. The Dinobots continued to hunt Guardian through the Ark while Ratchet made with the repairs to the other Autobots. The situation became more difficult, however, once they uncovered the presence of a thermonuclear bomb inside of Guardian. The Wrath of Guardian! Wheeljack managed to prevent the Dinobots from reducing the Ark to a smoldering crater by remote-controlling Optimus Prime's body, interrupting their execution of Guardian. This unfortunately allowed the droid to strike back, and it fled after knocking all of its opponents aside. The Dinobots reconvened in the medical bay, where Grimlock made sure Ratchet attended to Swoop in short order. Just as repairs on their comrade neared completion, Guardian burst into the room, and the Dinobots engaged the droid once again. However, Guardian was not planning to beat the Autobots through brute force this time around; instead, the droid had activated the bomb within its body, and was counting down to detonation. Slag and the others were spared from utter destruction by Swoop, who flew Guardian up into the sky before the bomb went off. With the apparent loss of one of their comrades, Slag and the other Dinobots chose to leave the Ark and seek their own path on Earth. The Wrath of Grimlock!

Over the following weeks, each Dinobot began suffering from a breakdown of their cybo-dendrons, an anomaly in their neuro-circuitry caused by their extended time spent immersed in the tar pits. The Autobots learned that all of the Dinobots were due to revert to a near mindless, animal states after tangling with Swoop. The Icarus Theory Slag had retreated to the Old River Valley in the Idaho badlands and it was there that the Autobots sought him out. A search team consisting of Jazz, Ironhide, and Jetfire arrived in one of the shuttles and found Slag in a one-sided struggle with two human cowboys. After getting the humans to safety, the Autobots tried to wrangle themselves a turbo-steer. They tried some amusing tactics like taking the Triceratops by the horns or using Ironhide like a red flag to distract the fighting mad Dinobot, but ultimately they couldn't have won without the help of the Decepticons. Ironhide found Laserbeak spying on them and, after stunning the tin-plated turkey, he grabbed the Decepticon and thrust him inside Slag's mouth just before the Dinobot let loose with his flame breath. The resulting backwash took Slag off-line and allowed the Autobots to take him into protective custody. Dinobot Hunt!

Although Ratchet managed to repair the cybo-dendron damage, the Dinobots remained trapped in comatose states, experiencing the occasional dreams as their minds attempt to wake up. Slag's dreams revolved around the epic battle he had with Shockwave four million years ago, and the haunting feeling of going off-line beneath the tar pits. Victory! Slag and the other Dinobots eventually recovered fully from their ordeal, although they were still none too happy to see Ratchet upon awakening. Second Generation!

The Dinobots were largely uncomfortable under Optimus Prime's command. When Prime organized a battle unit to assault the Decepticon base, not to demolish their enemy but to record some vital data, the Dinobots balked at the idea. The idea of going into battle without intending to win was an anathema to them. Grimlock, Slag and the other Dinobots chose to abandon the Autobot cause instead of putting up with Optimus Prime's "cowardly" ways any longer. Command Performances!

After their big speech, the Dinobots apparently hung around the Ark for a little while anyways, but soon became bored with their inactivity (as they were now soldiers without a general). Finally, on a whim, they decided to help Sludge go after the "beautiful golden human" he had met while his cybo-dendrons were malfunctioning. Joy Meadows, the aforementioned "human", was a reporter who drew some serious heat after she started questioning the Robot-Master cover story being pumped over the air waves. Both the Decepticons and the US government had a stake in making sure the public believed all the Transformers were under the control of a so-called "terrorist", and so they wanted her silenced. After the Dinobots agreed to do an interview with Meadows to set the story straight, Swoop flew off to pick up her camera crew, but found his transformation controls malfunctioning when he returned. Demonstrating his rarely acknowledged tech-smarts, Slag located and identified a homing beacon on Swoop. Despite Grimlock crushing it, they were still found by the Decepticons. The 'Cons ultimately won the skirmish — Soundwave wiped Meadows' tapes and the Constructicons personally laid the beatdown on Slag and the others. Despite some grumbling afterwards, Slag and the Dinobots mostly decided to give up on the idea of "telling their story" to the humans. In the National Interest Optimus and Prowl approached the Dinobots afterwards, demanding an explanation for what had transpired. Slag and the others refused to talk, and instead walked off in a huff. When the future Decepticon named Galvatron returned to the 1980s, his first act was to destroy Centurion, a mechanoid who had befriended the Dinobots. Seeking revenge, they came after Galvatron in a pitched battle alongside several Autobots. Despite all the force leveled against him, however, the battle against Galvatron ended with a stalemate, at best. The time-traveler only retreated when the Decepticons joined the fray, as Galvatron was unwilling to destroy his own future-troops. Fallen Angel

Top this, Jurassic Park!

After some time on their own, the Dinobots wound up living in the Cascade Forest range in Oregon, some distance away from Mount St. Hilary. Once they heard of Optimus Prime's death, Grimlock planned on storming the Ark and demanding that the Autobots name him the new leader. On the way, however, they found that the Decepticon had unleashed the living battle station known as Trypticon on the Autobots. When Grimlock joined the battle to protect an endangered human, Slag and the other Dinobots joined in the fight as well. They did so much damage that Trypticon was forced to return to Cybertron to replenish his fuel supplies. After this impressive showing, Grimlock was voluntarily named the new Autobot leader, and the Dinobots rejoined the Ark's crew. King of the Hill!

When Swoop got into a fight with his old sparring partner, Divebomb, the Dinobots and Predacons were drawn into a pitched war with each other. Slag and Snarl engaged in head-butting games with Headstrong and Tantrum. After playing with them a bit, the Dinobots easily brought down their Predacon opponents. Grudge Match!

Slag is very mad that he's been drawn shorter than Beachcomber.

Grimlock and the Dinobots started to let their new power go to their heads pretty soon. Grimlock started wearing a tin crown of all things, while Slag and the others began acting more like mob enforcers than Heroic Autobots. After the Autobot named Blaster went AWOL with Goldbug, Grimlock swore out a vendetta against him and had his troops keep a look out for them. While monitoring human radio signals, Slag heard word of a possible sighting, and reported his find to Grimlock. The Dinobot leader sent out the Protectobots to look into Slag's report. Used Autobots This attempt at apprehending the rogue Autobots didn't pan out, and Grimlock even went so far as to cast some of Blaster's human acquaintances into space (albeit with space suits). When another Autobot named Sky Lynx intervened on the humans' behalf, the Dinobots chased him into an asteroid belt. In order to prevent any further harm from coming to the humans, Blaster surrendered himself to Grimlock. Spacehikers!

With the rebel troublemaker taken captive, Grimlock returned to his capricious rule, with Slag and the other Dinobots attending to his every need. Grimlock's time of lazily lounging about was interrupted when the Ark's crew came in contact with another team of Autobots, this one operating under Fortress Maximus. Unwilling to share leadership duties, Grimlock challenged the new arrival to a duel, and had Slag and Snarl throw Goldbug, being harbored by Maximus, into the brig. Blaster wound up taking up the fight in Maximus's stead, with nearly all of the other Autobots acting as audience to their match. The Dinobots cheered for Grimlock, though the fight came to an abrupt end when the Decepticons launched a surprise attack. Grimlock and Blaster momentarily put aside their differences to chase away the attackers, and in the battle's aftermath, Goldbug had left with several others to reconstruct Optimus Prime on Nebulos. Totaled!

Upon Prime's return he confronted Grimlock, Slag and the other Dinobots, who were none too happy about having to cede control of the Autobots back to him. However, Prime proved to be his usual persuasive self and managed to sweet-talk them into following his orders again. These events were witnessed by the time travelling Dicet Alpha-zero. The Quest!

The super-Decepticon known as Galvatron had become more and more of a threat to the Transformers, not only due to his raw power but also because of the time-warping effect his prolonged presence in the past was having. Optimus Prime and Grimlock were in the midst of rallying their troops for a major offensive against Galvatron, before the time storm consumed them all, when several Autobots teleported back in time from 2009. The resulting mass-displacement effect, however, made it appear as if Prime and several other Autobots were disintegrated on the spot. Enraged, Fortress Maximus led Slag and several other Autobots into battle against the murderous "impostors". Slag and the remaining Dinobots showed off their awesome warrior strength by ganging up on Arcee, or "the broad" as Slag called her. The future Ultra Magnus stepped in to teach Slag a lesson in manners, using him as a bludgeon to knock out Sludge. Time Wars

Following a distress signal sent out by Buster Witwicky, Slag and the rest of the Autobots were lured out to the Arctic, only to find a Decepticon ambush awaiting them amid the frozen wastes. After a brief scuffle, the two warring factions joined forces; they learned that this confrontation had been orchestrated by Starscream as a means to distract all others from his bid for the Underbase. Though they were able to interrupt Starscream's absorption of the Underbase's cosmic energies, the amount Starscream had already taken into himself still granted him unimaginable might. Slag was among a group sent over to Tokyo to try and halt the Seeker as he rampaged across the globe. As temperamental as he was, Slag at least had the sense to point out during this fiasco that the people of Tokyo were not well aware of Transformers as a whole, and possibly mistook the Dinobots for movie props. His insight didn't do him much good against Starscream though, and like his teammates, Slag got, well, slagged. Dark Star

Despite him being out of action, a solid light simulation of Slag was used in a training mission for the Mayhem Attack Squad. Said simulation contained both high-ranking Autobot officers and Autobot "non-entities" though, so it's unknown how worthy of an opponent Slag was considered by the Decepticons. The Hunting Party

Many months later, Grimlock grew frustrated over the fact that, despite himself being back online due to Ratchet's handiwork, his Dinobots remained offline within the Ark's medical bay. Upon learning of Nucleon's restorative capabilities, he took Slag and brought him, alongside the other Dinobots, to Hydrus Four in a quest for the miracle-substance. Reaching the island of Farooth with their bodies in tow, Grimlock first tested Nucleon on himself, and feeling super-charged by the liquid, proceeded to douse Slag and the others with it too. The Pri¢e of Life! Then, with the help of Slag and the others, Grimlock filled the containment units in his shuttlecraft, hoping to bring back enough Nucleon to revive the Ark's entire crew. ...All This and Civil War 2 Surprisingly enough, the returning Dinobots found the Ark empty, as Primus had teleported all Transformers from Earth to Cybertron to engage in final battle with Unicron. En route to Cybertron, Slag and Sludge pumped enough Nucleon into the life sustaining pods to bring back a full battle unit of Autobots. The Void! Their comrades revived, the Dinobots approached Cybertron with the battle against Unicron already underway. Grimlock rammed the Ark into the Chaos-Bringer's face, sending the Ark plummeting towards the planet's surface, and forcing all aboard to leap out before it crashed. On the Edge of Extinction!

After Prime died in the war, Grimlock was named Autobot commander once more. His first mission was to seek out the Ark and all of the still-inoperative Autobots within it, taking his Dinobots with him for the task. En route, Grimlock suddenly seized up, rendering him completely immobile. Inconveniently enough, this perplexing problem was followed by Hi-Q's arrival, and the Nebulan was on the run from demons from below Cybertron's surface! Slag tried to light one of the aflame with his fiery breath, only to find that the creature enjoyed the heat! He was nearly taken down by another of the creatures, but thankfully Sludge came to Slag's rescue, and knocked the demon off his back before it got to do any damage. Still, the Dinobots were hopefully outmatched by the vile creatures... that is, until Grimlock's paralysis came to an end; in truth, his seizing up was the final stage of his metamorphosis into an Action Master! In this powerful new form, Grimlock easily sent the demons packing. Still Life! Although Prowl was attempting to maintain a truce with the Decepticons, Grimlock and the Dinobots recognized how improbable that was. Therefore, while the peace talks were going on, Grimlock sent Slag and the other Dinobots to the Rad Zone to recover the hidden starships they had stashed there millions of years prior. It was a good thing he did, because the Decepticons betrayed the Autobots, leaving them stranded on the dying planet without transport off it otherwise. A Savage Circle Using a homing beacon he had planted on one of the Decepticon ships, Grimlock tracked them down to the planet Klo. The Autobots had been expected, however, and the Decepticon welcoming party annihilated the Autobot army. Within a short period of time, only five Autobots were left alive: Grimlock, Slag, Prowl, Kup and Blaster. They continued to fight on, regardless of the hopelessness of the situation, and their stubborn refusal to just lay down and die was rewarded. Optimus Prime arrived on Klo to turn the tide, thanks to his new Action Master body and the help of the Last Autobot, a powerful Transformer who revived the entire Autobot army with his powers. The Decepticons were driven from Klo, and the Autobots celebrated a true victory. End of the Road!

When Optimus received word that Autobot City was being besieged by Megatron and his Decepticons in the year 2005, he enlisted the aid of the Dinobots to repel the enemy forces. Slag and his teammates battled Devastator as he tried to breach the outpost's defenses, though even their might failed to fell the combiner. The Autobots nonetheless managed to repel the Decepticons, though at a steep cost; Optimus was fatally wounded in combat. The Planet-Eater!

The Autobots were only given a brief respite before more bad news reached them: a "monster planet," Unicron, was approaching Cybertron, and devouring the planet's moons! The Autobots quickly prepared to head to Cybertron aboard two shuttles, only to be attacked by Decepticon forces led by Galvatron, the upgraded form of Megatron. Slag's group managed to lose their pursuers, and the Dinobots watched as Hot Rod trained with an Auto-combatant once they believed themselves out of harm's way. But the Decepticons found them once more, shot up their ship, and forced them in proximity of planet Quintesson. A planetary defense system then brought the shuttle into a crash-landing. Slag, Sludge, and Swoop were separated from the rest of the crew. By the time they found them again, Kup, Hot Rod, and Grimlock were being escorted by a gang of Sharkticons, and so the Dinobots opted to stay out of sight and follow them. En route, they met the young Autobot Wheelie, who joined their rescue effort. When Grimlock and the others began fighting back against their captors, Slag's group joined in the scuffle, successfully beating back the hordes of Sharkticons. After their show of force, the Autobots convinced the Sharkticons to turn on their cruel Quintesson masters. They then went off to find a means to get off-world, Judgment Day! and eventually succeeded in ending Unicron's threat.

Slag'd kill them anyways!

In 2008, Slag and the Dinobots were one of several special units unleashed on the Decepticon attack force when Scourge and Cyclonus led the 'Cons on a siege of the Autobots' main base on Cybertron. Slag barrelled through the Decepticon forces like a living juggernaut. Autobot High Command soon learned this assault was only a distraction, however, engineered by Unicron himself who was reconstructing himself on the planet of Junk. When Smokescreen returned from Junk with this news, Rodimus Prime gathered Scattershot, Grimlock, and the rest of the Dinobots with him to make an assault on Junk. Much to Rodimus's dismay, Slag and the Dinobots didn't hold back at all when attacking the Junkions Unicron had mind-controlled into doing his bidding, and tore through them as if they were any other enemy. The Legacy of Unicron!

Earthforce

Slag was constructed without the necessary emotional dampers that would allow him to regulate his moods and rage. This fact made him unpleasant company at the best of times, but also caused a regular glitch in his circuits, turning him into a raging homicidal berserker for a brief period every four million years. Shortly before leaving aboard the Ark with Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobot crew, Slag experienced one of these "glitches" and wiped out his entire tactical unit. His fellow Dinobots managed to cover up the incident, and Prime and Autobot High Command never learned about it. The 4,000,000 Year Itch!

Sometime shortly after the Matrix Quest, Slag and his fellow Dinobots were revived by Grimlock and returned to action in the Autobot army. They were engaged in a battle against a group led by Shockwave (with Slag tossing Ravage overhead with his horns) when Optimus arrived on the scene. Their more brutal methods didn't sit well with Optimus Prime, and while he berated them, the Decepticons took the opportunity to sneak off. Two Steps Back! This led to a shouting match between Grimlock and Optimus, where the former threatened to take his Dinobots and leave the Autobot army. The situation deteriorated further, with Slag and the others hanging back as Optimus and Grimlock eventually knocked some sense into one another. Ultimately, Optimus chose to leave Grimlock in charge of a special Earthforce, guarding the planet while he led the Ark's crew out in space to deal with the threat of Unicron. Break-Away! Although Grimlock had promised Optimus Prime that he would show restraint on Earth, Slag was present at the first meeting of the Earthforce where their leader literally threw the rule book out of the window. Once upon a Time...

Little did Grimlock know that this would only cause Slag to become even more violent than before...

While the Autobot Earthbase was under construction, Slag and his fellow Dinobots decided to engage in an Earth custom known as April Fools' Day and have a little fun at their leader's expense. Slag used his vast technical knowledge to rig up a fake video message from Decepticon commander Shockwave, and the Dinobots used it to lure Grimlock out into a blizzard, convinced that he was going to a one-on-one duel with the Decepticon. Instead, he found a snowman with a cardboard sign, proclaiming him an "April Fool". Amusing as it was, Grimlock was last seen heading towards the Dinobots with a massive snowball over his head, so he might not have taken it too well. Snow Fun!

When the Survivors joined up with Earthforce in order to get help for their ally Carnivac, Slag was part of the strike team that went to attack the Mayhems' island, and he fought the Pretender Stranglehold. Where Wolf? He was present at Earthbase for the unveiling of Wheeljack's new defense system The House that Wheeljack Built! and, shortly thereafter, fought back against a major Decepticon offensive led by Soundwave. He roasted the Constructicon Scavenger with his flame breath, and the 'Cons eventually retreated. Divide and Conquer!

See? This is why you don't mess with Slag.

With the sort of bad timing that only happens in comic books and soap operas, Optimus Prime came to Earthbase for a tour and inspection right when Slag's next 4,000,000 year berserker rage came due. This led to a hilarious romp through Earthbase, as the Dinobots desperately attempted to keep Slag under control while Grimlock tried to keep Prime unaware of what was going on. Comedy gold! Through no lack of effort, they were successful in keeping him out of view, and Slag burned himself out while Optimus left Earthbase none the wiser. The 4,000,000 Year Itch!

Later, when Snarl was suffering from Corrodia Gravis, the Autobots were forced into the unpleasant circumstance of seeking out the only known compatible Transformer for a transfer: Starscream. What's worse, their petition for aid came right in the middle of Megatron and Shockwave's assassination attempt on the treacherous Seeker. External Forces!

Forced to fight for Starscream's life, Slag held his own against Megatron in combat. He rear-ended the Decepticon with his horns and then set him on fire with his flame breath. Megatron tore out of there as if his reactor linkage was on fire. Which, incidentally... The Lesser Evil!

In 1992 Snarl once again fell victim to Corrodia Gravis so Slag and the Dinobots returned him to the Savage Land to retrieve the control crystal from their old shuttle in an attempt to save his life. Finding that a human named Professor Embrey had used the crystal to save some of the area's dinosaurs from a disease that was killing them, they were unwilling to trade Snarl's life for the dinosaurs'. Instead, the Dinobots transferred his mind into a Stegosaurus until they could find another way to save him. Destiny of the Dinobots!

Another Time & Place

Several months after the golden age of Cybertron was reintroduced, more and more Transformers were succumbing to the effects of Nucleon. Slag was the only Dinobot still able to transform at this time. When Grimlock received information that the Hydrus Four facilities had reopened and discovered a means of reversing Nucleonic changes, the Dinobots jumped at the idea. Despite Prime's half-hearted warnings, Slag and his teammates followed Grimlock back to Hydrus Four in the hopes of becoming Transformers once again. They were followed by the "exiled" Decepticons, however, and a battle with a huge native creature delayed the Dinobots long enough for Bludgeon's crew to get ahead of them and take over the Nucleon facility. The Dinobots were laid low by a Holocaust Trigger, overloading their sensory circuits so that they were helpless before the Decepticons. Cruelly tortured, the Dinobots were still left alive so that they could witness the rebirth of Megatron, thanks to the Nucleon infusions Bludgeon was feeding him. Luckily, the Autobots had long since learned to become worried whenever the Dinobots were out of sight for too long, and had followed them to Hydrus Four. Roadhandler, Tote and several Micromasters managed to free the injured Dinobots, and an Autobot strike force brought down their Decepticon captors. The Nucleon reversion process was a success, and Slag and his comrades were restored as fully operational Transformers. Another Time & Place

Before the war, Slug wanted to become a pyrotechnician, but his armored personnel carrier alt-mode required him to serve in the Autobot military, and he was unable to change careers. He was sent to prison for burning down his barracks in protest, where he first met Grimlock and later became a Dinobot.

Slag and the Dinobots were fighting alongside Grimlock and a small group of Autobot firestormers when they uncovered the Cybertronian Empire and their terraforming measures. After calling in Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots to discuss the matter, they were captured by Jhiaxus, leader of this new enemy force. The seeming insignificance of their previous conflicts weighed heavily on Optimus, but once Grimlock convinced him of the need to fight on, the Autobots burst free from their cell. Slag and the others became part of a major offensive against not only Jhiaxus and his ilk, but everything they represented. War Without End! Their initial escape from the Empire was deterred by passage through the K'tord Nebula, where both sides were swept up in the effects of aggressive psychic parasites. Primal Fear!

What's a little cannibalism between buddies?

Despite Prime serving as overall commander, however, Slag and his buddies were still Dinobots first and foremost. So when Grimlock wanted to take first strike action against Prime's orders, there was no question who they'd follow. Using a stolen enemy shuttle, they attempted to sneak upon the Cybertronian ship, the Twilight, with a Chaosmaster Bomb to obliterate it... But Slag and the others were captured almost immediately, as Jhiaxus had increased his security. They only escaped thanks to the timely intervention of Optimus Prime and his more loyal group of soldiers. Devices and Desires! Grimlock mellowed a bit after that exchange, and so Slag and the Dinobots were relegated to training exercises with the other newly arriving Autobots from other regions of space until a new plan of attack against the Cybertronian Empire could be made. The Power and the Glory

When Grimlock learned that Optimus had left to confront Megatron alone on Earth, hoping to negotiate a treaty and join forces against Jhiaxus's army, the Dinobot immediately recognized the foolishness in this decision. He gathered up Slag among others to come to their commander's rescue, their arrival interrupting Megatron before he could deliver a killing blow. The Gathering Darkness Slag continued to fight alongside the Autobots with his Dinobot comrades on Ethos. Escalation! Later, after the Autobots forged an alliance with the first-generation Decepticons against the Cybertronians, the Dinobots got into the spirit of things—they teamed up with Headstrong and Weirdwolf in a metal-munching contest to see who could chow down on the most Cybertronians.

The Swarm took Slag's nose-horn first.

Man, too bad Hun-Grrr and Skullcruncher weren't there to make it a real contest. Total War!

In the final battle with the Swarm, Slag arranged the alliance's defenses against the voracious creature. He later gave his life in a futile attempt to protect Slingshot from the Swarm, proving once and for that all Dinobots truly do care about their other Autobots... as long as they're also obnoxious loners. When both Bludgeon and Megatron came to Earth and began causing destruction in their wake, Grimlock called upon Slag and Snarl, so that all three Dinobots could help Optimus Prime fight back against the Decepticons. The Dinobots made their way to the ruins of London, where Slag overpowered Sparkstalker's firebreath with his own, mocking his opponents' weaker attack all the while. Once the evil robots had all been driven off or defeated, Optimus had the Autobots retreat off-planet to avoid a confrontation with the humans. War Zone

Slag had a tendency to go absolutely crazy-murderous-berserker once every 4 million years. Slag's profile in Club magazine #22

When Grimlock, Snarl, and Swoop joined that huge jerk Ultra Magnus, that was just asking too much. Slag and Sludge ditched the team, and went off on their own to track down Decepticons. The pair wound up busting into a sting headed by Nightbeat, thinking it was a Decepticon mercenary recruiting operation. The only thing that saved the detective from the two then intoxicated Dinobots was the timely arrival of some real Decepticons. Afterwards, thinking it would be fun working for someone with a nose for trouble, Slag joined Nightbeat's entourage, becoming the muscle to his wandering detective organization. The team's detective ventures didn't have the greatest of starts though, as their ship wound up crash-landing in the only repair bay on the planet Azure, stranding them. When three big organics picked a barroom fight with their new leader, Slag got to earn his keep by tossing one of them through a wall. (Sludge then pointed out that Slag could have pitched the lug through a nearby window, but Slag stood by his decision of making the guy go through brick and mortar instead of glass.) It turned out these thugs were only there to deliver a message from Nightbeat's newest employer: the sentient starship Amory. Nightbeat's crew was tasked with tracking down Phyrion, the Amory's binary-bonded pilot. Slag and Sludge participated in the search by browbeating citizens of Purgatory for answers. A lead led them to an abandoned warehouse, where a new Mayhem Attack Squad was waiting for them, their quarry in-hand as a hostage. Slag was harpooned by Octopunch, but managed to beat him back and moved on to Ruckus, leader of the enemy group. Cutting Ruckus's arm off, he freed Phyrion, and kept the limb as a trophy. The Decepticons fled, and Nightbeat's gang fulfilled their contract... only to realize they were still without a means to get off-planet once the Amory left without them. Scrap. Cheap Shots

Some time later, Prowl, Silverbolt, and Ironhide tracked down Slag and Sludge on Azure, and approached them to "persuade" Grimlock to rejoin the Autobot forces on Cybertron. The meeting between Grimlock and the trio wound up being cut short, and they left together in response to a distress call from Earth. Before his departure, Grimlock left behind a secret message for Slag and Sludge, instructing them to gather up all the Autobots on Azure and bring them to Earth. Slag and his team managed to survive the destruction of their universe and ended up in Axiom Nexus. Epilogue

By the year 2007, Slag had lost control, slipping into a murderous berserker rage due to the infusion of Nucleon into his system. He was kept contained in the Nursery. Natural Selection, Part One Grimlock began to tirelessly search for a cure for Nucleon as he blamed himself for Slag's state. Loose Ends, Part 1

When Grimlock next saw Slag, it was back in the Nursery, where the other Dinobots had gathered to confront their leader for bringing Scorponok and his Gene Key to Cybertron. As his actions had been for the purpose of saving the Dinobots, Grimlock resisted the urge to defend himself. When Scorponok's troops interrupted the fight, though, Grimlock defended the Dinobots, which restored a measure of their respect for him. Natural Selection, Part Four With the still-feral Slag left behind at the Nursery, Grimlock and the other Dinobots joined another group of Autobots in retaking the Civil Defense Hub, securing Scorponok's Nucleon research in the process. The Dinobots then confronted Scorponok at the Sonic Canyons, where Grimlock sacrificed himself, plummeting into the depths of the canyons locked in battle with the Decepticon. The Autobots put Scorponok's research to use in short order, as Slag was in normal operation, alongside his remaining fellow Dinobots as they confronted Hot Rod following his disastrous address at Eugenesis Plaza. They expressed their desire to join Hot Rod on his mission to the Demon-infested underground, because they believed Grimlock was still alive and they would be able to find him. Slag emphasized that they would know if he were dead. The Dinobots' "blind, intuitive faith" stirred Hot Rod into action, and he accepted the Dinobots' aid. Destiny, Part One Their search led them deep into Cybertron's under-structure, following a "map" imprinted on Hot Rod's mind by the Covenant of Primus. Destiny, Part Two In the Primus chamber, the group was confronted by Primordial Cybertronians, who only retreated after the arrival of Grimlock, aglow and inhabited by the power of Primus. Destiny, Part Three Slag and the other Dinobots entered a form of mind-lock while Primus and Hot Rod conversed. After Primus dispatched Hot Rod on a quest through Zero Space, the Dinobots awoke to find a very confused Grimlock. Destiny, Part Four As they made their way back towards the surface, the Dinobots realized the primitives were passively following them as well. Emerging from the ground in the middle of a Decepticon invasion, the Dinobots took up arms against the 'Cons and their Blitz Engines, and led the primitives into battle as much needed reinforcements for the Autobot cause. Destiny, Part Five

After the invasion, however, the Autobots were unsettled by the presence of the Dinobots' new "friends". Even the newly risen Rodimus Prime, who first began the quest to reconnect with these ancestors, didn't want to know them. The War to End All Wars, Part 1 Slag and the other Dinobots were unsettled by the ghetto constructed on the surface by the Autobots to house the primitives, and were suspicious of how passive the primitives had quickly become. When Jhiaxus's highly advanced Primum Fugae arrived on Cybertron, they quickly judged the primitives to be an evolutionary insult and began exterminating them. Slag and the others stepped up to defend the creatures, but the Primum Fugae proved incredibly powerful. They only retreated after a larger Autobot force arrived. The War to End All Wars, Part 2

Damaged in the struggle, Slag and the Dinobots remained behind on Cybertron when Rodimus Prime led a counter-attack against Jhiaxus's Hub worlds. The primitives' behavior continued to be unsettling as they spontaneously began growing "hibernation capsules" around themselves in the ghetto, apparently instinctively hiding out from some upcoming menace. The War to End All Wars, Part 4

Sure enough, the Anti-Matrix entity took advantage of the Autobots' absence and unleashing a corrupting wave over Cybertron, draining life and stability from nearly all the inhabitants. Slag and the Dinobots only survived due to their proximity to Grimlock. It seemed it was the Anti-Matrix and not really Primus who inhabited Grimlock earlier, and that brief contact created an immunity for him. However, the Dinobots still had to deal with the shadow-demons all other Transformers on Cybertron had devolved into thanks to the entity. They survived long enough to regroup with Rodimus Prime's fleet when they returned from the Hub. The War to End All Wars, Part 5

Slag was a member of the Dynobots, the Autobots' demolition specialists during the early days of the war on Cybertron. After learning that Shockwave may have been responsible for firing one of Project Dreadnought's planetary turbines, Prowl assigned the Dynobots to accompany Perceptor on his investigation. Travelling into Decepticon-held territory, the team located the enormous crater left by the turbine's explosion but were almost immediately attacked by Skyfire. The Decepticon scientist proved to be little match for the combined might of the Dynobots but as they celebrated their victory, all five were rendered inactive by a single blast from Shockwave. Their bodies were later recovered by the Autobots Secrets & Lies #1 and taken aboard the Ark's med-bay where Ratchet stored their sparks in magnetic field stasis and their memory engrams in the mind bank.

Following the Ark's crash, its computer AUNTIE detected Shockwave's presence on Earth and rebuilt the Dynobots with alternate modes based on dinosaurs to deal with the threat. Taking a shuttle to where Shockwave had constructed a power siphon to extract energon from the Earth, the newly christened Dinobots attacked "One-Eye", though Slag soon found that his flamethrower breath was no match for Shockwave's nuclear fission-powered blasts. Seeking an edge, Grimlock ordered Snarl to collapse the ground beneath Slag and Shockwave as they fought, which catapulted Slag headfirst into a nearby tar pit. Secrets & Lies #2
