Beginning of the universe

[edit]

Shortly after the beginning of the universe, an ape-like being called Primacron comes into existence and begins experimenting, creating a variety of mechanical life forms which he dubs "Primitives." Primacron eventually takes one of their number as his assistant.

Over time, Primacron's creations grow increasingly complex and ambitious, but his scientific endeavors finally go too far when he creates a gigantic transforming planet that he dubs Unicron. Intended as a means to wipe the universe clean so that Primacron can experiment on a blank slate, Unicron rebels, seriously injures his creator, and sets forth to destroy everything in his path. In the meantime, Primacron's assistant escapes to a world near the centre of the galaxy. Call of the Primitives

An alien race known as the Quintessons colonize the planet Cybertron.<ref>The exact nature of Cybertron's past is not revealed; "Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 2" depicts the planet with rocky sublevels and Beast Machines established that organic creatures once inhabited the planet, implying that the Quintessons terraformed a preexisting Earth-like world. On the other hand, the Vector Sigma supercomputer claims to have predated Cybertron's existence. Either way, the exact specifics of Cybertron's prehistory are never revealed.</ref> Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 The Dweller in the Depths and, hoping to create a servant race, engineer a strain of biomechanical monsters they dub "Trans-Organics." Though physically strong, the Trans-Organics are simpleminded, violent, and innately destructive, making them useless for their intended purpose. The Quintessons deem the Trans-Organics a failure and destroy the vast majority of their creations, imprisoning a handful of survivors deep beneath the planet. The Dweller in the Depths

For their second attempt, the Quintessons settle on creating a line of robotic slaves, The Dweller in the Depths turning the planet into a gigantic factory designed for the mass-production of these robots. Mechanical bodies are forged in the fires of the Plasma Energy Chamber The Rebirth, Part 1 which are then imbued with intelligence and a guiding life force through the power of the Vector Sigma supercomputer. As their new underclass takes shape, the Quintessons develop two distinct product lines: consumer goods and military hardware. Robotic labor becomes the backbone of Quintesson society, expanding to include violent rounds of gladiatorial combat staged for the amusement of Quintesson rulers. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4

The reign of dominance over Cybertron is punctuated by the banishment of the Quintesson Mara-Al-Utha, a powerful sorcerer who, in defiance of Quintesson law, dabbles in the forbidden arts of magic. He is sent to the other-dimensional realm of Menonia, where he trains with and eventually betrays the ruling "Golden One;" seizing dominance of the land with his dark arts. Madman's Paradise

During their servitude, a group of consumer goods robots come into possession of the mysterious Matrix of Leadership. The origins of this talisman are unknown (there is some suggestion it may be connected to Primacron's assistant), but it is secretly passed down from one holder to the next: Primon to Prima to Prime Nova. After a million years of oppression, the consumer goods robots slowly develop true sentience and rebel against their creators, sparking the Autobot Rebellion, the "First Cybertronian War." Rebel leader A-3 and his rebel cell of like-minded consumer goods robots assault the Quintesson's Hive City, deactivating the gigantic Dark Guardian through the use of the Coder Remote placed inside A-3's slave brand. The Hive City is captured by the rebels; Forever Is a Long Time Coming this military victory marks a turning point in the war and the Quintessons are eventually forced to flee the planet. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4

In the ensuing period of peace and reconstruction, Guardian Prime holds the Matrix as a new civilization develops. The two distinct cultures of Quintesson machinery continue to speciate along their own lines and eventually come to be known as "Autobots" and "Decepticons." Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4

At some point around this time, the fearsome Brimstone terrorizes the city of Hyperious, and after a prolonged battle, the ancient Cybertronians are able to separate his personality component from his body and inter it within a great ceremonial urn, mythologized as the "Heart of the Dragon". Both factions of robots cooperate for a period until the Decepticons — still driven by an instinctual thirst for conquest — turn their aggression against the Autobots in the Second Cybertronian War. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 Early on in the conflict, a depraved Decepticon conqueror known as the "Cannibal Baron" establishes an empire, and is challenged by Sentinel EnN. Their conflict destroys the city of Doradus. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/09/15

Over the course of the war, the Matrix is passed from Guardian Prime to Zeta Prime, who in turn falls and is succeeded by Sentinel Prime. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 Sentinel Prime becomes the first wartime Autobot leader, pitting his troops against the Decepticon commander Trannis and his forces. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/08/05 The protracted conflict sees both sides claim victory at different points in time. Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 2

Unable to decisively overpower their heavily armed enemies, the Autobots seek a new advantage in the war and develop stealth technology that allows them to hide in plain sight: the ability to transform. With this new skill, Sentinel Prime defeats Trannis, the Autobots win the war, and drive the Decepticons and their followers underground. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 The Autobots establishAutobot High Command as a peacetime government. Wings of Honor Under their jurisdiction, energy becomes plentiful and the planet shines with a healthy golden glow, ushering in the Golden Age of Cybertron. War Dawn In this period, the Autobots maintain a small peacekeeping force known as the Autobot Guard, a part-time outfit only assembled as needed with only a single dedicated regiment. Sentinel Major profile

In the age of peace that follows, Cybertronians leave their planet for the first time to explore the galaxy beyond. Starscream, after graduating from Cybertron's Science and Exploration academy, befriends Skyfire. The two travel to an uncharted planet where severe weather separate the two and force Skyfire to crash-land in the Arctic. Fire in the Sky Starscream profile On Cybertron, Omega Supreme and the Constructicons collaborate to build Crystal City. The Secret of Omega Supreme

Though driven back, the Decepticons are not defeated, and soon begin preparing for a new conflict by developing transformation technology of their own and combining it with flight abilities. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 Skyquake develops the Skyraider program that grants Decepticons airborne alternate modes. Leozack profile

So it is that Megatron is created, a new Decepticon leader who swiftly gathers a multitude of followers Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 and reprograms Autobots into obedient Decepticon soldiers. The Secret of Omega Supreme Searching for energy to fuel his growing war machine, Megatron stages attacks on Cybertron's outlying cities War Dawn and manages to slay Sentinel Prime. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 The Matrix eludes Megatron's grasp, however, having been loaded aboard the deep-space starship Van De Graaff. While passing the planet Beta-Nine en route to Cybertron, the ship is intercepted by Quintessons, who succeed in killing the Autobot crew but fail to take the Matrix. Mistaking the ship's disappearance for a Decepticon attack, the High Command prepares for the commencement of full hostilities. Councilor Magnum sends the nearby Eight Track and its captain Thunderclash to investigate. They are shot down over the planet by a Decepticon ship, and during the subsequent hostilities on the planet the young cadet Kup discovers the wreckage of the Van De Graaff and the bodies of the aliens and takes the Matrix. Kup manages to outwit the Decepticon leader Banzai-Tron with a booby trap and forces a surrender.

On returning to Cybertron, Thunderclash and his crew are rewarded for their bravery by being inducted into Magnum's newest intiative: as part of the Autobot's preparations for all-out war against the Decepticons, Thunderclash becomes the leader of a high ranking strike force within the Autobot Guard that will come to be knon as the "Elite Guard." Wings of Honor

In the meantime, the Matrix is returned to Cybertron, where it comes into the possession of its custodian Alpha Trion, formerly known as A-3. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 Wings of Honor

In other regions of Cybertron, the new flight powers of the Decepticons attract the attention of some Autobots, including a young dock worker named Orion Pax. However, Orion learns the folly of his ways when Megatron raids his workplace and plunders the energy within, fatally wounding himself, his girlfriend Ariel, and his friend Dion. War Dawn Sometime afterward, Dion's barely-functional body is found by Autobots, and with the help of Cop-Tur Dion receives a life-saving, full-body overhaul. Battle Lines, Part 1 At the suggestion of Magnum and Sentinel Major, he joins the Elite Guard, serving under Metalhawk. Dion's Wings Universe profile

Orion and Ariel, meanwhile are rescued by the time-travelling Aerialbots and brought to Alpha Trion. Trion rebuilds the two into battle-ready configurations, transforming them into "Optimus Prime" and "Elita One" and installing the Matrix in Optimus' chest. This can only end well...

Ten years later,<ref>Pete Sinclair has stated that the events of The Coming Storm take place ten years after War Dawn, which would set the story approximately 8,999,990 years ago.</ref> the Elite Guard has grown into a major player in the war, incorporating new members such as the weapons engineer Ironfist, the flight-capable Over-Run, The Coming Storm: Part 2 and the Stealth Team, led by AOU veteran Powerflash. Sentinel Major profile On the Decepticon side of the war, various Decepticon Warlords seek to consolidate their power over their domains, competing with one another as much as the Autobots and eventually forming a War Council consisting of various bit players. A Team Effort

Skeptical of Alpha Trion's "Prime Initiative," Magnum spearheads a new effort that will put the Elite Guard at the vanguard of the Autobot forces and commissions a new special operations unit designed to eliminate Decepticon leaders as they pop up: the Combaticons. The Coming Storm: Part 2 On their first mission, the Combaticons join forces with Metalhawk's squad to investigate a mysterious factory recently unearthed by an archeological dig. News of the artifact attracts the attention of Rage and his Stormtroopers, who succeed in stealing Brimstone's personality component and installing it into a new body. Brimstone is defeated when Brimstone's small body overloads from the power contained in his personality component and violently explodes, killing Rage and most of his men. Decepticon leader Deathsaurus, hearing of the adventure, takes a special interest in the Combaticons. Flames of Yesterday

The Combaticons continue to serve as part of the Elite Guard, though after investigating a potential Decepticon base The Coming Storm: Part 3 they are captured by Decepticons and returned to Deathsaurus. Preying on each of their insecurities in turn, Deathsaurus offers them a deal: if they turn against the Elite Guard, Deathsaurus will provide them with an upgrade that will allow them to quickly and painlessly end the war before it can engulf their world... a deal with the devil that Onslaught accepts. The Coming Storm: Part 4 As Decepticons, their existence proves troubling to Starscream, who worries that their ambition will lead to treachery. Battle Lines, Part 1

In the meantime, Magnus deploys the Stealth Team to apprehend Gutcruncher, searching for an anomalous asteroid. Aboard the Darklon the team manage to trick Gutcruncher's crew and reach the planetoid. In the ensuing battle, both sides are exposed to a massive dosage of mysterious radiation, bestowing them with extra power and speed but robbing them of the ability to transform. The Stealth Team are able to successfully subdue the Decepticons and return to Cybertron with them captive.

Subsequently, several Decepticon Warlords hold one of their customary meetings and are wiped out by Deathsaurus' lackey Falcon in a suicide bombing. Deathsaurus subsequently promotes Starscream to the rank of lieutenant to replace his fallen solier. A Team Effort

The turncoat Combaticons use their new combined mode "Bruticus to besiege the Elite Guard Headquarters, crushing Sentinel Major to death The Coming Storm: Part 5 and slaughtering many more Guardsmen until Dion successfully forces them to decombine; assuming that they've won, the Combaticons retreat. The Coming Storm: Part 6 With the Elite Guard in tatters from the massacre, Magnum discovers that the Autobot High Council have set up a new military under the direct command of Optimus Prime. Battle Lines, Part 1

While Prime and his team goes after Megatron, Magnum gathers what remains of the Elite Guard to find and eliminate Deathsaurus, whose forces are in disarray following the prior defeat of Bruticus. Battle Lines, Part 2 The Constructicons are captured by the Autobots; Deathsaurus retreats, but finds that during his absence Megatron has usurped his forces. Battle Lines, Part 4 Robo-Smashed warlord and Constructicon leader Hook throws his hat in with Megatron, and as a result he and his troops are upgraded with purloined combiner technology to form Devastator, while Starscream plots to one day overthrow Megatron and take his place. The Combaticons, who refuse to recognize Megatron's leadership, are reduced to personality components and interred in a Decepticon detention facility. Battle Lines, Part 5

A week later, Megatron's Decepticons attack Iacon using Devastator as a spearhead, but the Autobots succeed in bringing him down and turning the tide. In the battle, Dion and Magnum are both gravely wounded. Alpha Trion tries to repair them both, but ultimately only one pulls through. Trion rebuilds the survivor into "Ultra Magnus." Battle Lines, Part 6

Following the first fall of Devastator, Omega Supreme subsequently tracks down the Constructicon and tries to reverse Megatron's brainwashing, but discovers they have become a combiner, who attempts to use the Robo-Smasher to reprogram Omega Supreme. Omega destroys the machine and they flee before he recovers from the attack. The Secret of Omega Supreme

The war continues apace for four million years. During this time, the Autobot race grows increasingly militarized, developing new innovations in attempts to win the war. As endless fighting depletes the planet's energy, fuel becomes scarce and several Autobots develop the voluntary "Micromaster" upgrade to mitigate fuel consumption. Battle Lines, Part 6

Many Autobots — including some Elite Guard veterans — soon tire of the war and choose to flee Cybertron entirely, colonizing distant worlds like Paradron and Antilla to escape the war. Fight or Flee Cosmic Rust By four million years ago Optimus Prime supervises the secret construction of the Ark, a ship that will carry a team of Autoots into space to search for more energy. Battle Lines, Part 6 More than Meets the Eye, Part 1

By the time that they are prepared to launch the ship, the Decepticons, having caught word of the Autobot plan, attack and the Autobots are forced to leave early without several crew members. The Decepticons, led by Megatron, give chase aboard the Nemesis, while Shockwave, Megatron's loyal enforcer, stays behind to keep watch over Cybertron in his leader's absence. More than Meets the Eye, Part 1

The launch of the Ark is observed by Alpha Trion and a small group of Autobot stragglers who failed to make it aboard in time. Prime and his crew believe Elita One and her team have been destroyed. The Search for Alpha Trion With the energy shortages threatening the Autobots with extinction, Trion prepares Stasis hibernation pods for the Autobots on Cybertron, programmed to reactivate their inhabitants when energy becomes plentiful again. Kup foregoes the hibernation procedure and, over the next few million years, undergoes rapid aging as a result of the energon-depleted world. Battle Lines, Part 6

In space, the Nemesis catches up with the Ark. The Decepticons board the Ark and battle with the Autobot crew, until the out-of-control vessel crashes in Mount St. Hilary on Earth. The impact knocks both sides offline for several million years. More than Meets the Eye, Part 1

Three Decepticons abandon the Nemesis aboard an escape pod before the ship impacts Earth. Their escape pod crash lands in Bali, where they adopt new alternate modes based off the native insects. Becoming the "Insecticons", the trio quietly ride out the next four million years in the Demon Swamp by converting organic matter into fuel. A Plague of Insecticons

With the Autobots lost and the energy-depleted planet now firmly under the control of the Decepticons, Alpha Trion seeks an alternate solution: using the remains of a Decepticon shuttle, Alpha Trion builds a new Transformer and imbues it with life using Vector Sigma to create the first of a new breed: Jhiaxus, driven by the need to unify and protect all Transformers. Jhiaxus assembles a force of Decepticons willing to negotiate with the Autobots, but Shockwave and his loyalists oppose. The two forces clash, and Jhiaxus is assumed dead in the crossfire — but Jhiaxus survives, going into hiding. Jhiaxus bio

Both Galvatron and Zarak's forces are left to retreat, and excess energy from the Plasma Energy Chamber succeeds in revitalizing Cybertron's energy capacitors.

Though the Decepticons have been beaten, they are not defeated; Galvatron and Zarak lead the majority of their forces into deep space beyond Nebulos. In response, the Autobots send most of their military to puruse their foes, leaving only a skeleton crew behind at Autobot City to safeguard the people of Earth. While this means that the worst Decepticons are safely contained to a distant region of the galaxy, it also means that the "Generation 2 Transformers," born of the Cyberfactories, begin to splinter along the ideological lines drawn by their forefathers, resulting in Pyro's "Generation 2 Autobots" taking on Clench's outlaw Decepticon Syndicate, who form an alliance with the Quintessons' new generation of Sharkticons led by Sky-Byte. Generation 2: Redux

While pursuing one such Decepticon holdout out in space, Kup and the Dinobots run afoul of Scourge, but are able to defeat him after taking some advice from one of Kup's old war stories. Wings of Honor

On Earth, the new war between the young Transformers and their allies takes a new turn when Clench attacks the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland to create forestoneite: an mutagenic fuel that grants assorted superpowers to its users. When the Autobots catch up with the Decepticons and launch a counterattack, the vaporized fuel infects dozens of Autobots and Decepticons, granting them all supernatural powers as a result. One canister of Forestonite finds its way into the possession of an evil Wheeljack from another universe as part of his efforts to locate Nexus Prime.Generation 2: Redux
