Target is a major North American retailer (although it does not have any stores in Canada). They have had a lot of Transformers exclusives over the years.

Superion and Bruticus Maximus were originally intended to be released in Universe packaging, and were released that way in various Asian and Oceanian countries, but for the US market, Target asked Hasbro to put them in Revenge of the Fallen packaging instead.

Trivia

• A redeco of Energon Optimus Prime with Smallest Transforming Transformers Optimus Prime and Energon Megatron with Smallest Transforming Transformers Soundwave were planned as Target exclusives, but were ultimately canceled. However, they remain listed on Hasbro's online Action Figure Checklist.
• Redecos of the Armada Super-Cons Hot Shot and Wheeljack as Generation 1 Smokescreen and Generation 2 Drench (but as a Decepticon like "Euro" Drench), respectively, including their respective Mini-Con partners Jolt and Wind Sheer, were to have been a Target-exclusive Universe Battle in a Box set. Like the Optimus Prime and Megatron packs, this set was canceled for unknown reasons. (The "Smokescreen" redeco of the Hot Shot mold still hasn't seen a release, but the "Drench" redeco of the Wheeljack mold was later released — with slight modifications — by the Transformers Collectors' Club as the BotCon 2008 exclusive "Shattered Glass" Sideswipe toy.)
• Target teamed with Hasbro to promote the toyline for the live-action Transformers movie in its stores, working more closely with the company than perhaps any other retailer in the brand's history. Side effects of this included the Robo-Vision promotion, the transforming Optimus Prime Target gift card, and Target donating a gift pack (containing a free $5 gift card and comic) to every pre-registered attendee of BotCon 2007.
• Luckily for Canadian Transformers fans, most Target exclusive toys in recent years have been available either at general retail in Canada, or at Zellers.
