The Cybertron Elite Guard is a distinguished team of Autobots from the Animated, Generation 1, Shattered Glass, and Aligned continuity families. It is also known as the Autobot Elite Guard, and in one timeline has also been a Decepticon organization.

The Cybertron Elite Guard is the pinnacle of the Autobot military force, reserved for only the most distinguished graduates of the Autobot Academy. Its members are specialists, masters in their fields, and the unit is only called upon in the most dire of situations. It reports directly to the Supreme Commander of the Autobots. It also engages in some pretty shady business from time to time, from experimenting on other Autobots, to creating weapons of mass destruction, all the way to hiring unscrupulous bounty hunters.

Bumblebee and Bulkhead also registered to join the Guard. After Bumblebee and Bulkhead accidentally destroyed part of a simulated battle zone and injured their drill sergeant, Sentinel Minor, they were both given the boot and reassigned to space bridge repair duty. Autoboot Camp

After seeing Optimus Prime save them from an incident on the asteroid where they were working, Bumblebee commented that with moves like that, Optimus should have gone into the Cybertron Elite Guard. Gee, way to rub salt in the wound, there, Bumblebee... Transform and Roll Out

Shortly after the battle with Megatron, the Elite Guard arrived to retrieve the AllSpark. (Great timing, guys.) Upon learning that the AllSpark had been dispersed, Ultra Magnus confined Optimus Prime's crew to the Elite Guard's ship while he, Sentinel Prime, and Optimus went to investigate Optimus's vessel, where the battle had taken place. When trouble at a Sumdac Systems manufacturing plant was detected, the Autobots and Elite Guard managed to hold off the malfunctioning police drones being made there long enough to allow Optimus, Prowl, and Jazz to get Sari Sumdac to the assembly line and shut it down. The Elite Guard

After an extended period with no evidence of a Decepticon presence on Earth, Magnus was prepared to gather up the Autobots and ship out back to Cybertron. He urged Optimus to testify as to his experiences on Earth to calm the general fears of Megatron still being alive. When Optimus protested that Megatron was still alive and that such testimony would be falsifying evidence, Sentinel angrily stated that nobody was asking him to lie, just to agree with Sentinel's scans (quite excellent ones, in his humble opinion) showing there were no Decepticons on Earth. Besides, Sentinel cajoled, if he smoothed things over with Cybertron Command, Optimus might just be able to be reinstated into the Elite Guard. Mission Accomplished

Blurr was left on Earth to try and find the Decepticon base and keep an eye on Optimus's crew. However, Master Disaster, with the help of an AllSpark-powered remote control, forced Blurr to do his bidding until Sari stole the remote from him. A Bridge Too Close, Part II Velocity

Fiction

Thunderwing was a Decepticon member of the Cybertron Elite Guard, which in pre-war times was a law enforcement group. He operated as a duly appointed agent for millennia, often spending extended periods of time away from Cybertron. In fact, his missions kept him away from Cybertron so much that he had little to no knowledge or interest in the civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Blitzwing Bop

In modern times, the Elite Guard was an Autobot organization serving at the whim of a madman Optimus Prime. Previously led by Hyperdrive, the Guard was taken over by Thunderclash after he deemed his commander unfit for leadership and eliminated him. Thunderclash's toy bio

The Elite Guard were the thirty-six bodyguards of the High Council. Sentinel was a member before he became a High Councilor and Prime. When Megatron assassinated Halogen in the High Council Chamber, Optimus Prime ordered them to stand down and spare him in an effort to maintain peace. Exodus

The Elite Guard's involvement in the preceding events, or events mostly similar, were also chronicled in the comic "Transformers: War for Cybertron."

In Viron 102.0 Beta, Storm Jet formed the Guard to defend Cybertron from existential spaceborne threats. They flew around in the Longbow from crisis to crisis. Threats they faced included the Metabeasts of Zeotopia, extracting Bruticus from the Intruder Empire, evading the Elder Gods in the Dark Nebula, and clashing in the Mirtonian Expanse with Jhiaxus and his Destructicons, the Guard's most tenacious opponents. In Viron 903.0 Beta, Jhiaxus's Destructicons were also the most tenacious opponents of the Elite Guard. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/09/09

Notes

  • In Animated, many members of the Elite Guard bear what appears to be rank insignia, in the form of downward-pointing chevrons on their arms or abdomens. Magnus has four stripes; Sentinel, Jazz, and Kup have three; Warpath has two.
  • Shattered Glass Thunderwing is mentioned as being part of the Elite Guard since before the war started, and has been out of touch with events before then. As such, it's not really clear so far whether the Elite Guard eventually evolved into Thunderclash's group while Thunderwing was gone, or if there's two separate organizations with that name in the Shattered Glass universe.
  • Originally known as the "Cybertron Elite Guard" in the Animated pilot, they have been referred to in subsequent years of fiction as simply the "Elite Guard".

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Elite Guard (エリートガード Erīto Gādo)
