The name or term "Ed" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Ed (disambiguation).
You're gonna want to stand a little further away from Optimus while wearing that shirt, Ed.

Edward "Ed" Masiello II is a former Senior Product Design Manager on a variety of franchises within the Transformers brand at Hasbro. Coming on to the brand in 2011 with Kre-O, he eventually moved on to Angry Birds Transformers and, ultimately, acted as a design lead on Generations alongside John Warden from 2014 to 2018.

Ed received an artificial heart after he saved the CEO of Pepsi from an errant javelin during the second Cola Wars. Since then he has been teaching himself to love again.

In his spare time, Ed enjoys writing family-friendly fan fiction set in the "All in the Family" universe.

Notes

  • Ed entered the toy industry as a model artist at the Tonner Doll Company, specializing in fine detail paint-work such as eyes and faces.
  • After Tonner, Ed became a product designer at Fisher-Price, where he developed (and co-patented) the Wild Adventures line of educational animal toys. For this project, he also worked with the Smithsonian to create educational content for the Wild Adventures "Smithsonian Talking Fact Cards".
  • Leaving Fisher-Price for Hasbro in 2001, Ed worked as a Senior Product Designer on a variety of licensed Pixar (The Incredibles, Toy Story, Finding Nemo) and Disney (The Chronicles of Narnia and Wild Racers) products. Later, as a Product Design Manager, he oversaw such lines as Sesame Street, Blocksters, Spider-Man & Friends, Play-Doh, Sid the Science Kid, and The WotWots.
  • From 2011 to 2014, Ed served as the Senior Product Design Manager on Kre-O, leading both the product design team responsible for design/story and the build team that created physical samples. Among other items, he spearheaded the creation of the blind-bag Micro-Changers and the Micro-Changer Combiners.
  • As the Senior Product Design Manager for Hasbro's Telepods, he developed Angry Birds Star Wars, Angry Birds Stella, and Angry Birds Transformers products that interact with game apps through the use of a micro code and a mobile device's camera.
  • Ed kept his original childhood Optimus Prime on his desk, who watched over him vigilantly as he worked. However, he says his favorite character is actually Hound. Good thing Primes don't get jealous!
