Duke gains new insight into his enemy as the Dreadnoks ally themselves with Road Pig. Meanwhile, Destro's consolidation of Cobra leads to shocking revelation for Colonel Hawk.
Synopsis
Duke tries fend off Road Pig but is unable to penetrate his girth, allowing Road Pig to easily knock him out. He then drags Duke through his house to the attic, where Cobra Commander is already chained to a meathook ceiling. After chaining Duke up as well, Road Pig notices Ripper and Buzzer outside. As the pair of Dreadnoks approach the town, they are met by Road Pig's pet bulldog Rawkus before Road Pig swoops in for the attack.
Meanwhile, Colonel Hawk detours from his trip to Langley after receiving a message from Astoria Carlton-Ritz claiming to have information about Cobra. When he arrives on her boat, she leads him into a meeting room where Destro and Mercer are waiting. Destro offers to provide Cobra weaponry to G.I. Joe to help aid their fight against “the robots”. Hawk immediately pulls a gun on Destro, not wanting to do business with him. However, Destro then reveals that he has information about his team and the robots that Hawk will want to know...
As Duke tries to free himself from his restraints, Cobra Commander asks him why he saved his life. Duke simply tells him that he has questions for him. Cobra Commander warns that he might not like the answers, prompting Duke to ask his first question: is the Commander human? The Commander confesses that he is, but he doesn't want to be, believing that humanity's mortality makes them weak, and confirming for Duke that he did not build the Transformers. Duke then asks why the Dreadnoks are after him, prompting the Commander to reveal that he stole the Energon from them. However, their conversation is interrupted by the return of Road Pig, with Buzzer and Ripper in tow, having become an honorary Dreadnok thanks to Rawkus' approval and their shared love of grape soda. Buzzer taunts the Commander, but soon regrets it when the Commander lunges forward and takes a bite out of his neck. Ripper tells Road Pig to take them outside where Zarana, Zandar, and the rest of the Dreadnoks have finally caught up with them.
At the Pit, Clutch knows that something is wrong if Duke hasn't checked in by now. Cover Girl tells him that even if they pulled Stalker, Baroness, and Risk from Chicago, they wouldn't get to Texas until the morning. Clutch says to do so anyways; the two of them are going now, and he knows someone else who can help...

Quotes
Hawk: "Astoria, are you crazy?! Destro is the enemy!"
Destro: "You told me this would be a friendly exchange, Astoria."
Astoria: "I do not. But this is not how my story ends."
"So, you didn't make those robots?"
"No. But imagine if you had their abilities. What you could do?"
"I don't need to be a dang robot."
"You're a fool then."
- —Duke and Cobra Commander
Notes
Continuity notes
- Cobra Commander's mutated/mutilated face is the result of being caught in a spore explosion back in Cobra Commander #1.
- It appears Mercer is going to spill the beans to Hawk about Clutch's friendship with Hound, which he learned about from his own encounter with the pair back in issue #11.
- Cobra Commander's hatred for humanity was first elucidated back in Cobra Commander #2. He previously expressed his desire to evolve beyond human when sharing his experiments with Destro in G.I. Joe #11.
- Cobra Commander's theft of Energon from the Dreadnoks and their decimation at the hands of Nemesis Enforcer happened in Cobra Commander #4.
- Who could Clutch's potential ally be? Hound? Scarlett? Snake-Eyes??? It's probably Matt Trakker, given their established friendship from the Energon Universe 2025 Special story.
- It was hinted in one of the fan letter responses that Cobra Commander and Starscream's voices might canonical sound similar. When asked if Megatron thought the Commander sounded like Starscream, the response was that this had been considered and that we would have to "stay tuned!" to find out if it was true.
G.I. Joe references
- Buzzer mentions a Dreadnok named Thrasher, the original driver figure included with the Thunder Machine from the 1986 assortment of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toys. The dialogue implies that he's dead from blood loss after trying to high five Buzzer's chainsaw hand.
- Road Pig's dog Rawkus was introduced as an accessory for his G.I. Joe Classified Series figure.
