Artemis & Moon II Report

"Artemis & Moon II Report" (アルテミス&ムーンII通信 Artemis & Moon Second Tsūshin) is a short segment of the Beast Wars II cartoon, hosted by the title characters Moon and Artemis, two robots stationed on the moon of Gaia, with the assistance of Assistant Ball. During these sessions, the duo reports upon and discusses the events and participants of the battles taking place on the post-apocalyptic world. However, as Moon oftentimes becomes distracted, or forgoes the necessary tact when speaking to his fellow host, these reports usually dissolve into incidents of violence between the two.
Security seemed somewhat lacking when concerning the set from where the report was broadcast, as oftentimes the Predacons or Maximals being commented upon would butt in and make their opinions known to Moon and Artemis, along with whatever audience they had.
Fiction
[edit]Artemis and Moon introduced the "Artemis & Moon II Report" as the show's new corner program and talked about Angolmois Energy. Tasmania Kid tried to hijack the segment, but ran out of time before he truly could begin. The Lake Trap The "Artemis & Moon II Report" was dedicated to Galvatron's transformations, but resulted in Moon insulting Galvatron and incurring his wrath. Galvatron Revived Moon explained that the human-faced pyramid was built on top of a cache of Angolmois Energy, leading to the revelation that he and Artemis existed to watch over the Angolmois Energy on behalf of Gaia's former inhabitants. Mystery of the Ancient Ruins To obtain more information on the Insectrons, Bigmos was invited to talk about them during the "Artemis & Moon II Report". The Insect Corps Arrive When the hosts spoke about the abilities of all six Insectrons, Bigmos felt ridiculed and argued that his acquaintance Monko thought he was cool. Friend or Foe? The Insect Robos
The topic of the "Artemis & Moon II Report" was how the Maximals DNA-scanned their beast modes and how the Predacons downloaded their machine modes from the Mother Computer. Galvatron's dragon mode was also downloaded and just as Artemis expressed that she'd like him as a guest, his leg broke through the ceiling of the moon dome, forcing the segment to an end. The Strongest Tag Team? Invited once more, Bigmos explained that the Insectrons and Autorollers were mercenaries and therefore loyal to whoever paid them. After the explanation, Moon angered Artemis by calling her disloyal too and waving goodbye to the audience when that was her job. Autorollers Roll Out! Taking a break from the Transformers themselves, Artemis and Moon discussed the Maximals' stationary base, their ships for getting around, and the Predacons' mobile base. Knowing that the Predacons were in the Southern Continent, Artemis planned to ambush Starscream for an interview. Danger! Scissor Boy On Artemis's inquiry how it's possible that Angolmois Energy both heals and destroys, Moon explained that it's all about how one uses it. Galvatron Rampages Due to all that happened, there was no time left for the "Artemis & Moon II Report", so Artemis and Moon bade the audience goodbye until next time. Predacon General Offensive!
The Jointrons gave an interview to introduce themselves, but neither Artemis nor Moon understood what they were all trying to say. Then DJ dropped in from above and nearly squashed them. The Combined Giant, Tripledacus The two hosts discussed Tripledacus and his powers and the conversation shifted to the Jointrons' accidental arrival on Gaia when they were actually en route to Trius. Because of their rambunctious nature, Artemis noted that Trius had dodged a bullet, which the Jointrons heard. As they prepared to attack, the hosts quickly ended the segment. The Festive Jointrons Because it was discovered that Moon can transform and leave the moon dome, but cannot be heard or seen by anyone on Gaia, naturally the topic was about all of that. Artemis hypothesized that because the two of them were surveillance robots, their creators had equipped Moon with the invisibility barrier to keep him from action. The both of them wondered why they'd been stricken with such a limitation in their ability to do their job. A Fearsome Combination Plan? To please Artemis, Moon decided that they'd talk about the top three coolest scenes featuring Scuba. Who Is the Leader!?
Having observed the Transformers scavenging around in the ruins of a city, Artemis wondered what kind of people would built so much only to let it fall into disrepair. Moon explained that it was likely that they had made the place unlivable by their abuse of nature's resources. Their conversation was interrupted by the approach of a new spaceship, one bearing a pirate flag. The Black Lio Convoy After learning that the new arrivals were the Seacons, the hosts were quick to land them for an interview so they could introduce themselves. The Space Pirate Seacons! With so many warriors roaming around on Gaia, Artemis got curious who of them was the strongest, so she and Moon contacted them to hold a contest. The Maximals and the Predacons ended up in a tie which everyone hoped to break by letting Starscream and Scuba duke it out until either of them came out victorious. However, when the two heard that it was Artemis who had picked them, they walked away from the arena. Who Is the Strongest Warrior!? The two hosts discussed God Neptune and how a quintuple combination works. Moon patiently explained the workings to Artemis, but all she cared to hear was how her rival for Scuba, Scylla, was a mere leg. The Tentacular Scuba
Just like the Maximals, the hosts were impressed with the Seacons' power in one-on-one combat and mockingly expressed relief that Megastorm's plan had failed. However, Megastorm heard them and dared them to repeat themselves. Megastorm's Reckoning When Moon returned from Gaia, having saved the Maximals from the Seacons by leading the Insectrons to them, Artemis asked how he'd done it. He admitted that, inspired by a bedwetting incident, he had used his own oil to draw a map for the Insectrons. Artemis made fun of him for still not being toilet trained but lost ammo when Moon shot back that she was in the same situation. Showdown in the Sea Following a fight between Tripledacus and God Neptune, the hosts discussed the difference between triple combiners and quintuple combiners. Face the Setting Sun Artemis and Moon had detected something on the outside of the Solar System, but it was still outside of the range that they could observe it. Knowing that the Seacons had just left the Solar System, they tried to contact Halfshell to ask if he'd seen anything, but their call went unanswered. The Final Battle
Artemis had many questions for Moon to answer, such as what Lio Convoy's Energon Matrix was, who Lio Junior was, why the Energon Matrix reacted to him, and who Skywarp and Santon were. Moon could answer much, except for anything regarding Lio Junior, on whom he had no data. Enter Lio Junior Having learned that the thing that had entered the Solar System was the artificial planet Nemesis, the hosts believed that Magnaboss was their best shot at survival. This led to a short interview with Lio Convoy about the fatherly love he felt for Lio Junior despite his earlier pragmatic attempts to deny a bond. Megastorm Reborn What with Scuba having just come into possession of the Tako Tank, it was a given that it and the Sumii Car within would be the topic of the "Artemis & Moon II Report". The New Weapon, Tako Tank The hosts expressed stress at all the things happening, from Nemesis eating the ring of the sixth planet, to the revelations regarding Lio Junior, to Megastorm becoming Gigastorm, to Galvatron's resurrection, and so on. Gigastorm's Treachery
Because Starscream and BB had been upgraded into the Cyborg Beasts Hellscream and Max-B, Moon deemed it useful to go over the abilities their new forms provided them with The End of Starscream and because Dirge and Thrust had been upgraded into the Cyborg Beasts Dirgegun and Thrustor, Moon also deemed it useful to go over the abilities their new forms provided them with. The Lio Convoy Assassination Plot Hereafter, Moon and Artemis gave the spotlight to Magnaboss and talked about his abilities as well as his potential to become much more powerful as Lio Junior would grow into adulthood. The Great Angolmois Freezing Tactic As Nemesis came closer and closer to Gaia, being only a planet away, the hosts grew very concerned about their fate in the near future. Knock Out Nemesis On Artemis's request, Moon explained that Angolmois Energy could be both good and evil and that due to the proximity of Nemesis at present the Angolmois Energy was evil. Lio Junior's Revolt!?
The former Gaian civilization's doomsday device to prevent the Angolmois Energy from falling into the wrong hands had been triggered and as such the Moon was on a collision course with Gaia. From within the dome, Artemis contacted Moon on Gaia and they cursed their creators who had put them on surveillance duty and simultaneously kept critical information and ability from them to protect Gaia, the Angolmois Energy, and even themselves. Emissary of the Fourth Planet The crisis averted, Artemis welcomed Moon back to the moon dome, forgetting for a moment that the danger posed by Nemesis had yet to be dealt with. The Crisis of Planet Gaia With Nemesis within arm's reach of Gaia, the hosts discussed the nature, origin, and power of Nemesis. Fly Out! Planet Gaia Wishing to showcase all the warriors that had played a role in the conflict, Artemis and Moon hosted the "Artemis & Moon II Report" as the transformation corner. Assemble, Thirty-Nine Warriors After having secured the Maximals' passage to Nemesis, Artemis and Moon reunited in the moon dome. Moon then revealed that this "Artemis & Moon II Report" was to be the last because they had more important things to do, so the two tearfully told the audience goodbye. Revenge of the Space Pirates
Notes
[edit]- The "Artemis & Moon II Report" is a fourth wall-breaking corner program to fill the twenty-two minutes timeslot and is not in continuity with the actual plot of the series. That is, any "Artemis & Moon II Report" that, for instance, contains an interview is fully its own thing because the armies do not even learn of Artemis's and Moon's existence until "Emissary of the Fourth Planet", but any report that follows on an episode in which Moon has visited Gaia and depicts him either contacting Artemis or returning to her is only not in continuity because it ends with them saying goodbye to the audience.
- The first three episodes of Beast Wars II have either Tasmania Kid or Lio Convoy relaying info to the audience. The "Artemis & Moon II Report" does not begin until the fourth episode, "The Lake Trap". The transition is tacitly acknowledged by Tasmania Kid's attempt to take over the first "Artemis & Moon II Report". Thereafter, nearly every episode up to "Revenge of the Space Pirates" ends on an "Artemis & Moon II Report". Of note are "Galvatron Revived", which uniquely sees Artemis breaking the fourth wall by reading fan mail outside of the "Artemis & Moon II Report", the clip show "Who Is the Strongest Warrior!?", which is an episode-long "Artemis & Moon II Report", and the clip show "The Artificial Planet Nemesis", which is the only episode that lacks an "Artemis & Moon II Report".
- The tune associated with the corner program is "Second Tsūshin BGM".
