Yukikaze's twin tenders

Hey, um... hey you!

The Yukikaze's twin tenders are Maximal starships from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Yukikaze's twin tenders are the two medium-sized Maximal starships that under normal circumstances are parked inside the bow of the Yukikaze, which is operated by the Lio Convoy Unit. Although sizeable enough to comfortably carry as many Transformers as the plot needs, the tenders are principally not meant for long-distance space travel or long-term inhabitation, instead being intended for travel from and to the Yukikaze and if necessary to camp out. As with the Yukikaze itself and the Maximal Space Station, NAVI is the AI of the tenders.

The hangar of the tenders is only accessible when the upper front of the Yukikaze slides back, which seems to be only possible when the starship is stationary. Similarly, the tenders are equipped with a Camouflage Barrier to hide them from sight, two extendable tentacles on the front, and two mounted guns that extend from the sides, and these features all also seem to only work when they're stationary. Like the Yukikaze, the smaller starships are equipped with spherical reconnaissance robots, and for one particular mission, the Maximals installed Angolmois Energy cooling devices on the roofs.

After crashing in the North Continent of Gaia, the Yukikaze could no longer fly and the Lio Convoy Unit had to rely on the two smaller ships within, which were cushioned from the impact, for intraplanetary travel. They first used them to reach the South Continent to look into a strong energy reading in that region. Scuba and Apache flew one tender each and parked them at a lake beach, activating the tenders' Camouflage Barrier to hide the makeshift base. Lio Convoy had NAVI sent out a reconnaissance robot and it discovered that the source of the energy reading was an ancient human-faced pyramid. The robot transmitted images and a distorted ancient signal back to the tenders, but was destroyed by Mantis when it got too close. Lio Convoy and Apache consequently went out to investigate, leaving the others behind to be worried sick after NAVI detected an explosion at the pyramid. Mystery of the Ancient Ruins Once everyone had returned safely to the base, the Maximals evaluated their encounter with the Insectron. The Insect Corps Arrive One of the tenders was once more the scene of a meeting when the Maximals learned that there were at least three Insectrons on Gaia and again when the total turned out to be six. The conclusion both times was that the Insectrons were befriendable Friend or Foe? The Insect Robos and so they befriended them, talking out the remaining concerns at the base. The Strongest Tag Team? For an unknown purpose, the Maximals thereafter flew at least one tender into the jungle, with Scuba presumably staying behind at the lake base with the other ship. Autorollers Roll Out! Some time later, Scissor Boy and Tasmania Kid got captured by the Autorollers. In a bid to get saved, the two tricked their captors into the direction of the base where the rest of the Lio Convoy Unit was. Conveniently, Scuba spotted the group on their march and wired ahead, so the two were saved well before they reached the base. Danger! Scissor Boy Again later, the Maximals watched Galvatron's Angolmois-fuelled rampage through one of the tenders' displays and were concurrently contacted by Scuba with a plan to stop the Emperor of Destruction. Galvatron Rampages

Having only just returned to the Yukikaze, the Lio Convoy Unit learned of the arrival of a mysterious ship in the East Continent and used the two tenders to get there, Tasmania Kid flying one of them. The unit again set up their base at a lake beach and met the mysterious ship's crew, which were fellow Maximals known as the Jointrons. The Combined Giant, Tripledacus These new allies were as much trouble as they were help because they were obsessed with scoring points with Maximal HQ no matter the cost. This first became a problem when they decided to set a trap for the Predacons by revealing the location of the base. With everyone but Apache and Diver gone on patrol, the Jointrons dropped by and set up a party inside one of the tenders under the pretense of wanting to socialize with their colleagues. The moment they had the two distracted, they used their numbers to turn off the Camouflage Barrier and fire a flare, which was seen and responded to by Thrust, Dirge, Autostinger, and Autocrusher. The four Predacons crashed the base, the Combatrons entering with guns drawn and the Autorollers keeping guard outside with their guns aimed at the spaceships' main tanks to blow the whole place up should the Maximals fight back. The Combatrons were thrown off by the festive decorations and the Jointrons' enthusiastic welcome, believing they'd just walked into an easy victory. The Jointrons, in turn, were working through the rest of their plan, but had to improvise when Thrust and Dirge ordered their captives to fly the spaceship to the Galvaburg II. Gimlet solved the predicament by destroying the controls and playing stupid. Diver was ordered to do repairs and in the time it took him, the Jointrons got the Combatrons inebriated on oil. They tried to do the same with the Autorollers, but at this point the rest of the Lio Convoy Unit had returned and they reclaimed their base with simple violence. Because it turned out to be impossible to contact Maximal HQ for the time being, the Jointrons lost interest in their plan and left the Maximals to clean up the mess they'd made. The Festive Jointrons Despite all this, the Lio Convoy Unit allowed the Jointrons the use of one tender to set up and tape the "Jointron Corner" in. A Fearsome Combination Plan?

Surprise spaceship zerberts have caused many a crash.
Off to bed with you, young ship.

Still eager to show off for Maximal HQ, the Jointrons hatched a plan to destroy a Predacon building site by crashing one of the Lio Convoy Unit's starships into it. To this end, they deceitfully claimed that they wanted to clean up the mess they made with their trap earlier. They were believed and left alone in the tender and as soon as that happened, they took off. Lio Convoy and the rest of the unit took the remaining tender and went after the thieves. On Tasmania Kid's suggestion, they maneuvered their starship above the stolen one so that he could jump from their floor hatch onto the other's roof hatch and get inside. The plan was good, but the timing unfortunate because just as he landed the Jointrons got into a dispute about who should be the primary pilot and their in-fighting over the controls sent the tender barrel-rolling and slamming straight into the pursuing tender. Somehow, everyone kept flying and Tasmania Kid held on, making his way inside to be just too late to prevent the starship from crashing in the woods behind the building site. The other Maximals, in turn, landed too late to prevent the Jointrons from getting captured by the Predacons. They did manage to save them and everyone reunited around the two starships. The Lio Convoy Unit used the working starship to tow the crashed one back to the campsite and had the Jointrons promise to repair what they'd broken. Whether they did or the Lio Convoy Unit did it themselves is unclear, but it certainly was not the Jointrons' priority. Who Is the Leader!?

Tako Tank just doesn't have that vaguely threatening Pac-Man aura.

With the arrival of the Seacons, the Lio Convoy Unit once again had to leave the rediscovered comfort of the Yukikaze and use its two tenders to reach the Sea Continent, The Space Pirate Seacons! where they set up camp on the cliffs bordering the sea. They had a few meetings there on what to expect from the newly arrived enemy The Tentacular Scuba and were called to action when NAVI detected six Angolmois Energy readings simultaneously. Megastorm's Reckoning When Bighorn went missing, Tasmania Kid and Diver reported this to Lio Convoy and Apache at the base. Lio Convoy was informed by NAVI that she'd picked up a transmission that seemed to be between Bighorn and the Jointrons, so he had her look out for another such transmission that would let them determine the where and the why of their missing teammate. Face the Setting Sun The Lio Convoy Unit may at some point have relocated the base to a spot more on level with the sea's surface. It was there that Scuba informed them of the Seacons' desire to leave and that what was keeping them was a lack of energy to leave the atmosphere. Lio Convoy ended up arranging a one-on-one fight with Halfshell and if the latter won, he'd get the energy needed from the Maximals. This being the Seacons, they showed up as one God Neptune. Diver and Scuba, who were secretly keeping tabs on the fight, contacted the others back at the base about the treachery and they immediately flew over in one of the tenders. However, the Predacons had a stake in the outcome too, so Thrust and Dirge tried to shoot them down. Both Tasmania Kid and Bighorn jumped out of the starship on top of their attackers to hold them back and give Apache a chance to reach Lio Convoy in time. The Final Battle

Because the Angolmois Energy was acting up to dangerous levels due to the approach of Nemesis, Lio Convoy had Angolmois Energy cooling devices installed on the twin tenders so the Maximals could freeze the eruption sites wherever they formed a safety issue. Bighorn and Lio Junior took one tender and Tasmania Kid and Diver another. The operation started swimmingly, but once the Predacons learned of it Galvatron made Nemesis pull on the Angolmois Energy more fiercely. On top of that, the Predacons came to stop the Maximals' continued efforts and to thaw the ice already laid. To stop Dirge and Thrust, Tasmania Kid and Bighorn jumped out of their tenders and Diver took over as pilot of one to try and freeze Gigastorm along with the cooling machine on top of Tako Tank. On a rainy day, the one tender brought along from the Yukikaze to the Maximal Gaia base stood outside unused. Demolish the Superdreadnought Tank! The tender remained unused Infiltrate the Mystery Island! when the Maximals had to go to an island to help Lio Convoy, Scuba, and Tasmania Kid because they opted to make use of the Maximal Reconnaissance Ships instead. Free the Captured Matrix! Nobody was using the tender once more the day Bighorn met Scylla. Realize the Forbidden Love!

Star Upper arrived at the Maximal Gaia base and pretended to be a backup Convoy sent to help the Lio Convoy Unit with the threat of an Angolmois Energy-powered Predacon facility. The unit responded positively to his gung-ho sense of strategy and readily implemented his idea of flying a tender over and dropping in from the sky. Presumably using an autopilot program because no one piloted the tender, the Maximals all jumped out above the base for the surprise attack. Make a Surprise Attack on the Super Weapon Base!
