Yukikaze (BW)

This article is about the starship from Beast Wars II. For the Autobot Trainbot from The Headmasters, see Yukikaze (G1){{#switch:{{#sub:Yukikaze (G1)|-1}} != .= ?= .

The Yukikaze is a Maximal starship from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Maximal design aesthetics are weird.

The Yukikaze (ユキカゼ) is the Maximal starship commanded by Lio Convoy and his unit. The Command Center is located at the top of the bump in the back, its full length is 200 meters, its width is 70 meters, it weighs 500 tons, and it can go faster than Mach 4. It is furthermore equipped with a Cyber-Trans Control Engine (サイバートランスコントロールエンジン) to reach warp speed and is under the direct control of a NAVI.

As a vessel meant for longterm exploration, the Yukikaze hasn't got a lot of weaponry on it, but it is fast, has good defenses, and is even capable of some transformation. There's the normal starship mode, and by sliding the front back and up to the bump in the back the Yukikaze enters its base mode. It is only in base mode that the path to the internal hangar opens up and the two tenders parked inside can be used to transport the Maximals from and to the starship. The Yukikaze can be safely left alone for long periods of time due to its Cyber Guard System, an operational cloaking mechanism that projects a hologram around the perimeter of the ship, making it appear to be an unassuming rock formation.

Jukebox Crazy?

Some time after Convoy went missing, Maximal HQ sent the Convoy Unit stationed at the Maximal Space Station to Gaia to investigate an energy anomaly. They made the journey to the planet by means of the Yukikaze, but on approach the Predacons already active on Gaia fired at them. The Yukikaze could not withstand the barrage and to save themselves the five Maximals entered the lifeboats. They each reached the planet safely The New Forces Arrive! and Lio Convoy, who'd earlier gotten stranded on Gaia himself, found the Yukikaze near a waterfall in the North Continent. Although it was no longer flight capable after crashing, it was still whole and NAVI and all of its other functions remained in working condition. Lio Convoy tracked down the rest of his team and brought them back to the Yukikaze, which they turned into their base of operations for the time being. White Lion, Run!

Please, do not be alarmed. We are about to engage... the nozzle.

With the Yukikaze's tech, the Maximals kept track of the Predacons, but on occasion the system faltered and they had to go on reconnaissance missions. Bighorn's Rage One such mission saw Tasmania Kid get cocky and attempt improvisational sabotage on a Predacon base. To his colleagues at the Yukikaze, he only reported he was working on a surprise and cut the transmission before they could talk him out of it. The Lake Trap Frustrated with the Maximals' interference in their theft of Angolmois Energy, the Predacons decided to strike at multiple places at once. The Maximals couldn't keep up and had to return to the Yukikaze to heal and refuel. They were soon ready to head out for Round 2, which they won. Galvatron Revived

After the Maximal victories in the North Continent, the Predacons moved to the South Continent by means of the Galvaburg II. Because the Yukikaze itself had been rendered immobile, the Lio Convoy Unit instead relied on the two tenders stored within the Yukikaze to get them to the other continent, where they stayed for a long time. In fact, they'd only been back to enjoy the comforts of the Yukikaze and the surrounding landscape for a short time when the crash-landing of another spaceship necessitated them to man the tenders once more and head to the East Continent. The Combined Giant, Tripledacus It was again a while before they returned, but it seems their stay at the Yukikaze thereafter was a little longer than before. At least, Diver had the time to build or finish building traps and weaponry around and in the waterfall. By that time, Lio Convoy and Apache were inside the Yukikaze looking through worrying reports on Predacon activity until Tasmania Kid demanded attention for his newfound Copy Machine outside. He used it to copy Lio Convoy, but the resulting Copy Convoy attacked the Maximals. They had to retreat to the safety of the Yukikaze, where Lio Convoy had NAVI deploy a reconnaissance robot to find out what Copy Convoy was doing. Copy Convoy spotted the robot and, thinking quickly, used it to make it look like he was a Maximal at heart and that his earlier actions had been a mistake. It successfully lured the Maximals out of the Yukikaze and into the trap he'd laid. The Black Lio Convoy Not long after, the Maximals received a report that another unknown ship had entered Gaia's atmosphere and was set to land in the Sea Continent. As before, they took the tenders and flew out from the Yukikaze. The Space Pirate Seacons!

Where on Gaia Is Carmen Sandiego?

Some time after returning to the Yukikaze, the Lio Convoy Unit would welcome Lio Junior, Skywarp, and Santon to their ranks. The latter two gathered the Maximals in the Yukikaze's control room to inform them of the artificial planet Nemesis and its steady approach. Later, after a fight with Lio Junior, Lio Convoy was aboard the Yukikaze when his Energon Matrix told him Lio Junior was in danger. Everyone moved out to find and save the young soldier. Megastorm Reborn After Skywarp and Santon had flown the Maximal Mobile Base over to the Yukikaze the three newcomers were formally integrated in the Lio Convoy Unit. With the assistance of NAVI, the Maximals designed a strategy to take down the gigantic Predacon Gigastorm. The New Weapon, Tako Tank The radar of the Yukikaze received a faint SOS from the Seacons, prompting the Maximals to sit around and talk about their former adversaries. The Artificial Planet Nemesis Lio Convoy, Apace, Skywarp, and Santon held a meeting in the data center of the Yukikaze to talk about Megastorm's upgrade into Gigastorm and the volatile behavior of Gaia's Angolmois Energy. They reasoned that this was all due to the influence of Nemesis. Meanwhile, the other Maximals were getting into trouble and when NAVI informed the four of this, they headed out as the rescue team. Gigastorm's Treachery Nemesis had come close enough to Gaia that footage of the artificial planet was available. The Maximals watched it on one of the screens of the Yukikaze and while it worried them, for the time being they couldn't stop it and managing Gaia's Angolmois Energy was deemed the priority. Scuba agreed to do the scouting, but when the Tako Tank ran off on a self-destruct mission with Tasmania Kid inside he and the other Maximals at the Yukikaze first had to deal with that. The End of Starscream At the Yukikaze, Lio Convoy and Apache were discussing Nemesis's approach and its influence on the planet's Angolmois Energy, and the Maximal leader declared they needed to stop the artificial planet from reaching Gaia. Later, while Lio Convoy was looking over some blueprints for a weapon, Apache contacted him from the Yukikaze, informing him that a mysterious duo were seeking him out. The Lio Convoy Assassination Plot Lio Convoy gathered the other Maximals outside the Yukikaze to show them several "Angolmois Energy cooling devices" which were capable of freezing Angolmois Energy. After the briefing, the Maximals split up to cover the planet more efficiently. The Great Angolmois Freezing Tactic NAVI reported to the Lio Convoy Unit about the chaotic Angolmois Energy and the ineffectiveness of their previous cooling efforts in controlling it now. At that moment, Drill Nuts rushed in and announced the completion of his newest project, and the others gathered outside the Niagara Base to reveal the Niagara Cannon, wich would use Gaia's Angolmois Energy to fire a blast poweful enough to destroy Nemesis. Knock Out Nemesis From the Yukikaze Lio Convoy sensed Lio Junior as he was enveloped by Angolmois Energy that had shot out of the ground and went to investigate. Lio Junior's Revolt!?

[edit]

Quite a time ago, the Lio Convoy Unit came to Gaia on board the Yukikaze. Once they had set up a base, they left the Yukikaze out and unattended but for Apache, who maintained it for the day they'd have to leave again. That day came when Galvatron sicced Nemesis on Gaia's Angolmois Energy and the Maximals had to bring the battle to the artificial planet. The priority was to put a stop to Nemesis's destruction and the one weapon of a size sufficient to accomplish that was the Yukikaze itself. The Maximals flew the ship along the energy flow straight into the artificial planet's eye, which destroyed its energy collector and interception system. Just before impact, they evacuated and used the explosion and the cover of their presumed deaths to regroup and launch a surprise attack. All Hands, Make a Special Attack on the Evil Planet!

Notes

[edit]
  • The Yukikaze was not named in the Beast Wars II fiction, only being referred to as the "Maximal base" (サイバトロン基地 Cybertron kichi). Its name instead comes from the Beast Wars II Super Encyclopedia.
  • Yukikaze (written in kanji as 雪風) translates to "snowy wind" in Japanese. It's commonly used in anime for everything from jets to spaceships to snow-cone makers. Even one of the Trainbots.
  • The Yukikaze is designed after the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Anomalocaris|{{#if:||Anomalocaris}}]]<ref>{{#if: |""—|}}{{#if: |[ Transformers Archive|Transformers Archive}}{{#if: |, |}}{{#if: |, ""|}}{{#if: 2024 |, 2024{{#if: 5 |/{{#switch:{{#len:5}}|1=05|5}}{{#if: 10|/{{#switch:{{#len:10}}|1=010|10}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: |]|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:|7|11}}|web.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:|8|11}}|web.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:|7|10}}|archive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:|8|10}}|archive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}}</ref> and in its stationary mode with top of the bow drawn back it's supposed to resemble an [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Ammonoidea|{{#if:ammonite|ammonite|Ammonoidea}}]] as per the model sheets.
