Shattered Glass

Toyline

Fiction

Like most Transformers franchises, Transformers: Shattered Glass has a toyline, which started with BotCon 2008's box set and souvenirs, and continued with scattered releases through Fun Publications and other fan-aimed release venues.

However, there is also a large number of toys originally from other Transformers toylines that have been officially repurposed by official fiction as Shattered Glass characters. This was done to fill out the universe in a way that fans could re-create with toys they might already own (or ideally could obtain easily/inexpensively).

Quite a few additional fiction-only Shattered character designs are based on existing toys/characters with new color schemes, meaning they potentially could be manufactured some day, or recreated by enterprising kitbashers.

The vast majority of the original run of Shattered Glass toys were released under Fun Publications' exclusive Timelines imprint, accompanied by its establishing fiction.

TakaraTomy has thus far produced one sole release in the Shattered Glass setting as part of the series of new-character redecoes of Generation 1 molds produced by their collector oriented vendor, e-HOBBY. Despite being marketed as a Shattered Glass set, the packaging features Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers branding and even includes an ID number that loosely fits within the original Japanese Generation 1 toylines' "verses pack" numbering system.

This set was also made available through the Transformers Collectors' Club website.

Generations

When Hasbro shuttered Fun Publications' Timelines imprint in 2016 as part of their wide-ranging initiative to consolidate the Transformers brand, the last of the Transformers Collectors' Club's Shattered Glass output was reshuffled under the Generations mega-franchise. All Shattered Glass releases following the end of Fun Publications' tenure that same year have since followed suit.

Fun Publications' text stories by Sepelak and Troop referred to all of the Mini-Con-mold characters as Micromasters; "Do Over" in particular.
Several unrealized proposals for Shattered Glass BotCon exclusives by Fun Publications were made. Known examples of these include:
- A heroic version of Stranglehold as a redeco of Revenge of the Fallen Lockdown (utilizing Axor tooling). ^[1]
- A heroic version of Slipstream as a redeco of the Transformers Figure Subscription Service Transformers: Prime Slipstream in the deco of Generation 1 Lyzack. ^[2] Slipstream would later be given a non-toy Shattered Glass incarnation in IDW's reboot comics, featuring a new original design.
- An evil version of Metalhawk as a new head redeco of Universe Cyclonus in the deco of Generation 1 Black Shadow.^[3]
The 2017 Power of the Primes subline of Generations includes a figure named "Rodimus Unicronus", representing a Unicron-corrupted version of "Generation 1" Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime. Of significance is that this figure takes its deco directly from the BotCon 2008 Shattered Glass Rodimus figure, and even features a retooled "Prime" head with a goatee. Moreover, early pre-release photos and display samples of this toy actually featured purple Autobot symbols, strongly indicating that the toy was once at least considered for release as the actual Shattered Glass version of the character. But ultimately, marketing consistency presumably won out and the toy was released as an evil version of normal Rodimus with purple Decepticon symbols instead. Nevertheless, that needn't deter fans from repurposing. *wink wink*
The Studio Trigger anime series SSSS.GRIDMΛN featured a wide cast of characters sporting visual designs based on Transformers characters, predominantly Shattered Glass designs.
