Mark Maher (born September 16) is the current lead designer on the Generations mega-brand at Hasbro.<ref name = "Preshow 2022">Pre-Show stream for Pulse Con 2022 with Thew Adams on the Hasbro Pulse Youtube channel.</ref> A lifelong fan of Transformers, Maher began working at Hasbro as a model artist in 2010, handling some figures for Revenge of the Fallen before moving to G.I. Joe for the "Pursuit of Cobra" series. Maher returned to Transformers to oversee the "Reveal the Shield" deluxe segment, and continued on through the Prime, Dark of the Moon, and Age of Extinction line-ups. Along the way, he became responsible for hand-painting every Transformers prototype. Wicked!

Maher has quickly become the face of the brand with fans following his promotion to full designer in 2018 and the retirement of Senior Design Manager Lenny Panzica in 2021. He regularly takes point in presentations for Generations (and occasionally BotBots) at conventions and Hasbro Pulse livestreams, and originated<ref>{{#if: Mark pushed for the Instagram initiative. |"Mark pushed for the Instagram initiative."—|}}{{#if: https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/07/25/sdcc-hasbro-kotobukiya-show-floor-qa-461912 |Hasbro|Hasbro}}{{#if: TFW2005 |, TFW2005|}}{{#if: SDCC Hasbro & Kotobukiya Show Floor Q&A |, "SDCC Hasbro & Kotobukiya Show Floor Q&A"|}}{{#if: 2022 |, 2022{{#if: 07 |/{{#switch:{{#len:07}}|1=007|07}}{{#if: 25|/{{#switch:{{#len:25}}|1=025|25}}|}}}}|}}{{#if: https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/07/25/sdcc-hasbro-kotobukiya-show-floor-qa-461912 ||}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/07/25/sdcc-hasbro-kotobukiya-show-floor-qa-461912%7C7%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/07/25/sdcc-hasbro-kotobukiya-show-floor-qa-461912%7C8%7C11}}%7Cweb.archive= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/07/25/sdcc-hasbro-kotobukiya-show-floor-qa-461912%7C7%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#switch:{{#sub:https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/07/25/sdcc-hasbro-kotobukiya-show-floor-qa-461912%7C8%7C10}}%7Carchive.is= (archive link)|}}{{#if: | (dead link)}}</ref> the now-common Hasbro designer practice of publishing design notes on Instagram for interested fans. Maher was first formally referred to as the design lead for Generations at Pulse Con 2022.<ref name = "Preshow 2022"/>

Among the Generations design team, Maher is generally responsible for the Legacy toyline and similar "play pattern first" product a la John Warden's tenure as opposed to the more "screen accuracy" focused work of co-designers Sam Smith and Evan Brooks on Studio Series. He's also never really stopped being the head deco expert, and is personally responsible for such redeco-heavy imprints as Shattered Glass, Buzzworthy Bumblebee, and Velocitron Speedia 500. If your favorite blorbo from the 00's gets a toy in the middle of a big Generation 1 push, thank him.

Notes

[edit]
Who DIDN'T want a Headmaster Optimus Prime with bonus 20,000 volts of death?
  • Mark is also an artist outside work! He ran a graffiti art studio for much of the 2010s.
  • A regular BotCon attendee for Hasbro, Mark customized a Movie Trilogy Series Optimus Prime trailer in-person at their booth during the 2012 convention. He took this theme to another level in 2014, using the BotCon weekend to spray-paint a three-section mural!
  • Maher is featured in the "A Spark of Design" featurette on the Blu-ray disc for Age of Extinction.
  • His own custom-painted Masterpiece Sunstorm was the basis for the Toys"R"Us exclusive figure.
  • Mark's personal favorite projects include Masterpiece Optimus Prime and Acid Storm. Coincidentally (or not), Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime is his favorite toy, while Cyclonus is his favorite character.
  • He has a Decepticon logo tattoo directly over his heart.
  • With approval from Hasbro and the city of Pawtucket, Mark transformed converted a utility box on the sidewalk outside Hasbro headquarters into an Optimus Prime head!
