The name or term "Scavenger" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Scavenger (disambiguation).
Scavenger is a Decepticon Constructicon from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Pooper-scooper butt action!

"C'mon guys, wait up..." You can't help but feel sorry for Scavenger. He wants so badly to be liked and needed, to feel like a useful and valuable member of his team. His self-esteem is so low he'd do just about anything to get the approval of the others, but his simpering, doting eagerness to please just reinforces the other Decepticons' opinion of him as a worthless loser. He's constantly excavating everywhere he goes in the attempt to find something of worth to please everyone and prove his value, but it's invariably just some piece of garbage or scrap he excitedly finds, and that just reinforces their opinion of his worthlessness once again. If it wasn't for his shovel's unique ability to detect needed materials, Megatron and the others would likely have dumped the poor scrub long ago.

Scavenger combines with his fellow Constructicons to form Devastator, where he serves the useful function of right arm.

Fiction

Generation 1 cartoon continuity

The Transformers cartoon

Voice actor: Don Messick (English), Takurō Kitagawa (Japanese), Yoku Shioya (Japanese, "Heavy Metal War"), Masashi Ebara ("The Core"), Keiichi Nanba (Japanese, The Movie), Roberto Alexander (Latin American), Thomas Rauscher (German, The Movie TV Dub), Thomas Albus (German, Generation 2, "Heavy Metal War" and "The Core"), Crock Krumbiegel (German, Generation 2, "The Master Builders")

Millions of years ago, the evil Scavenger and the Constructicons built Megatron for the Decepticons. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4 Out of gratitude, Megatron would later turn the Constructicons evil with his Robo-Smasher device, The Secret of Omega Supreme and eventually built them on Earth. Heavy Metal War

Nothing in the preceding statements is confusing. These aren't the droids you're looking for.
"This shovel of mine glows with an awesome power!"

For their first mission on Earth, the Constructicons raided an experimental power plant for the energy disc components and power converter on-site. The humans were using the components to tap into Earth's magnetic field for an infinite power supply and all the energy they'd ever need. Such a simple-minded (and straightforward) scheme was too unimaginative for the mighty Megatron, however—he had the Constructicons (1) build a strength transfer machine so that he could (2) utilize the powers of his fellow Decepticons to (3) best Optimus Prime in personal combat and (4) force the Autobots into exile in deep space as a matter of honor, which would (5) leave Earth's resources open for plunder by the Decepticons in order to get (6) all the energy they'd ever need. An evil scheme without at least five unnecessary steps is fodder to Megatron.

To ensure his treachery went undetected, Megatron sent the Constructicons to destroy Teletraan I, and prevent the super-computer from alerting the Autobots to his strength transfer. While all the Autobots left the Ark to watch the combat, Scavenger and friends tunneled into the volcanic caverns underneath Mount St. Hilary. Using his shovel's sensors, Scavenger pinpointed Teletraan I's location so that Mixmaster could burn his way through the floor of Autobot headquarters. They thought the mission would be as simple as destroying a computer console...but nothing is simple when the Dinobots are on guard duty. The dim-witted but battle-hardened Dinobots forced the Constructicons outside and away from Teletraan I. To compensate, the Constructicons assumed their Devastator mode and turned the tide. With Teletraan I still active, though, the Autobots quickly uncovered Megatron's deception, and came to lend their dino-buddies a hand. Hound used his holograms to distract Devastator long enough for Optimus Prime to blast him to pieces. Fleeing from the Dinobots' wrath, Scavenger and his teammates tumbled into a lava fissure opened up earlier by Sludge's groundquakes, and were temporarily deactivated. Heavy Metal War

"But Megatron, sir, we just built this base—" "Shut up and SMASH!!"

During a plan to turn New York City into New Cybertron, Megatron employed the Constructicons for...urban renewal. Several landmark buildings in Manhattan were loosened at their foundations and lowered into underground caverns by the Decepticons, allowing Cybertronian towers to be raised in their place. While Scrapper and Hook argued over whose creative contribution was greater to the overall plan, Scavenger dutifully used his shovel to break the foundation of the Empire State Building, and quickly jumped to safety as the building fell onto the lowering platform. When the Autobots arrived to stop the Decepticon plan, Megatron arranged to kidnap Optimus Prime with Scavenger's help. After Laserbeak reported the Autobots would be at a rendez-vous in Central Park, Megatron and Scavenger travelled to that location in their underground lair and, reviving the trick he used on Teletraan I earlier, Scavenger pinpointed when they were directly underneath Optimus Prime in the park above. Scavenger then slammed his shovel with enough force to shatter the ground under Prime's feet, causing the Autobot leader to fall into Megatron's awaiting arms. Later on, Scavenger and the Constructicons joined forces to form Devastator, but were once again taken down by a single shot from Optimus Prime's laser rifle. And his arm wasn't even attached this time! City of Steel

When next employed by the Decepticons, Scavenger and the Constructicons built a transfixatron for Megatron to freeze the Autobots in vehicle mode. After rendering the Autobots helpless, a second (and elaborate) Constructicon device would crush the Autobots into chunks. In a turn of events no one could possibly see coming, the initial plan failed and Megatron was forced to rely on his back-up strategy: initiate Devastator and crush everything. This time, Wheeljack and Cliffjumper defeated Devastator by turning the transfixatron on its own creators, causing Scavenger and friends to lose their "transformation identity" and revert helplessly back to vehicle mode. The Autobot Run

"I thought I told you kids to clean out the gutters!"

In their next endeavor, the Constructicons were charged with building a drill to tunnel down to Earth's molten core, unleashing the energy for Megatron's use and consumption. Scavenger nearly upset the entire project, however, after a malfunction in his geological sensors guided the drill to an unstable part of the mantle—the resultant rock fracture nearly upset the entire drill site. What's worse, when Scavenger was having his circuits checked out by Mixmaster on the surface, they were spotted by a group of Autobots. This in part led to the Autobots temporarily gaining control over the Constructicons and Devastator, although Megatron would tell you that was part of his plan all along. In the end, Megatron's plan inevitably went wrong and threatened all life on Earth. Devastator was the only one who could fly to the center of the earth to stop the drilling in time. In their group huddle before combining, Scavenger actually started tearing up, telling his fellow Constructicons how great it was being part of the team. Bonecrusher essentially told him to grow a robo-spine, and then they saved the world. The Core

Sometime later, Scavenger and the Constructicons exploited Grapple's artistic nature for their own ends. Grapple had designed a solar power tower that could produce limitless energy, but couldn't get the plan approved by Optimus Prime without an explanation of how he'd keep it from the Decepticons. The Constructicons came upon Hoist and the distraught Grapple, and offered their services for the "greater glory of art." Scavenger was right there with the other Constructicons, manipulating Grapple's pride as an engineer. The Autobots eventually destroyed the tower and saved Grapple and Hoist after the Constructicons turned on them, but this outing proved that—despite his easy-to-please nature and team player attitude with his fellow Constructicons—Scavenger was ultimately a Decepticon at heart. The Master Builders

"Nice shootin'... if you were aimin' for the sky!"

When searching for the Nemesis after it was unearthed in Central America, Scavenger and the Constructicons aided the Decepticons in clearing a path to the lost ship. Scavenger enjoyed some bonding time with Rumble, destroying the foliage and making fun of Starscream. Later, he used his sensors to track down the ship's stardrive by locating the Cybertroid alloy inside. Microbots

Nearly all the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth began suffering from a Cybertonium deficiency, losing their fine motor control and proper operating status without this necessary element. Scavenger and the Constructicons were among the few Transformers on Earth unaffected (which actually makes sense under any of their origins), and were awaiting a shipment of Cybertonium from Shockwave via the space bridge when the Dinobots attacked. Scavenger missed the call-to-arms to become Devastator, though, and was knocked aside by Sludge before he could merge with the others. This left Devastator a handicapped southpaw, and the Dinobots made their way through the space bridge to Cybertron. Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1

Scavenger was listening to his iPod while digging, and didn't hear the call to battle. Look what happened. Remember, kids—don't excavate and iPod.

While mining an asteroid in low orbit for Megatron, Scavenger and the Constructicons confronted Omega Supreme for the first time since leaving Cybertron. They only managed to avoid his vengeance because Optimus Prime forced Omega Supreme to put his duty before revenge—it was clear that a mad Omega Supreme would easily outmatch Devastator in a fight any other day of the week. The Secret of Omega Supreme

Scavenger's sensing abilities enabled the Decepticons to precisely locate and excavate the Pearl of Bahoudin. His digging uncovered the Pearl and its weather-altering powers for Megatron. Shortly afterward, he joined almost a dozen of his teammates in surrounding and firing on three Autobots who had captured the Pearl. Trans-Europe Express

After Starscream finally engaged in open rebellion against Megatron, the Decepticon commander gathered Scavenger and the other Constructicons to his side in order to battle the traitor and his brigade. Megatron considered Devastator his ultimate weapon to use against Starscream, but Starscream had prepared his Combaticons with a combined form of their own: Bruticus. Bruticus made remarkably short work of the Mighty Devastator. Starscream's Brigade

"I'm tired of being a doormat! It's time for Scavenger to shine!"

In preparation for the Decepticon assault on Autobot City, the Constructicons helped Megatron and Starscream board an Autobot shuttle. Prowl, one of the crew members, attacked Scavenger, who returned fire and killed him with a single shot. And he still gets no respect. The Decepticons subsequently flew the shuttle to Autobot City, where the Constructicons wrecked things both separately and as Devastator until Megatron was defeated and Starscream called for a retreat. On the train ride home, a fight for leadership broke out, but the Constructicons didn't win. Instead the victory went to Starscream, and Scavenger and his comrades were content with playing horns at his coronation. However, Starscream was soon killed by Galvatron, a reborn Megatron who immediately took back control of his troops. Scavenger followed Galvatron to the planet of Junk to hunt down Ultra Magnus, but ended up being knocked over by Daniel Witwicky alongside Shrapnel. The Transformers: The Movie

Scavenger’s involvement in these events, or events mostly similar, were also chronicled in the comic mini-series “Transformers: The Animated Movie.”
""Cannot answer now?" Son of a-"

Following Galvatron's defeat, the Decepticon army was forced to live on the barren world of Chaar, where they fought each other over the small scraps of energon they could find. When Astrotrain arrived with a shipment of three or four energon cubes, Scavenger punched Bonecrusher in the back and grabbed his share, despite Bonecrusher calling dibs on it. Scavenger doesn't care for the rule of dibs. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1 Oddly enough, Scavenger was not present when the other Constructicons built and activated Trypticon. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4

Scavenger and the Constructicons later constructed a giant engine on an asteroid, in order to send the giant rock crashing into Metroplex. When a group of Autobots came to destroy the engine, Scavenger formed the right leg of Devastator, which should not be possible. Regardless, Devastator was immediately defeated by Broadside, and the Constructicons soon crashed onto the planet Eurythma. There, Scavenger stole Scrapper's position on the combiner again, and Devastator was defeated by a single blast from Perceptor. Perceptor. Carnage in C-Minor

When the rest of the Constructicons participated in the attack on Paradron, Scavenger was again nowhere to be seen. They must really not like him. Fight or Flee As part of Devastator, he later helped Predaking fight Broadside in the sea of Japan. The Burden Hardest to Bear Alongside the other Constructicons, Scavenger was very briefly seen joining in on the attack on the Plasma Energy Chamber. The Rebirth, Part 1

On an island paradise, Scavenger and the Constructicons were performing excavation work for Megatron's new fortress, at the cost of the natural resources and precious animals. The Autobots arrived to stop the Decepticons. Despite their vast power, Trypticon and the combined Devastator failed to defeat the Autobots due to their lack of teamwork, and the Constructicons were knocked back into their component parts. Scramble City: Mobilization

When the Decepticons learned of the Scramble City project being secretly assembled by the Autobots, Megatron sent his henchmen to interfere with their work. The Constructicons joined Starscream and his flying partners in an attack on the Autobots. Optimus Prime and a task force of Autobots held their position until Scavenger and the Constructicons inevitably joined forces into Devastator. The Aerialbots gave Devastator a good whippin', though, and the Decepticons retreated. Scramble City: Mobilization

The Headmasters cartoon

Scavenger and the Constructicons were stationed on Earth in 2011, under the command of Sixshot. They attempted to prevent Ultra Magnus from sending reinforcements to Cybertron to help the Autobots fend off Galvatron's siege on Vector Sigma. Scavenger and his squad were ganging up on the Trainbots until Metroplex arrived and shooed them off with his superior firepower. Having failed to stop the Autobot reinforcements from departing, the Constructicons followed them to Cybertron. As Devastator, they tried to shoot Superion in the back, but Optimus Prime foiled their aim, making them hit Abominus instead. Four Warriors Come out of the Sky Devastator was involved in a combiner shootout on Cybertron until the Battleship Maximus arrived and annihilated the Decepticon combiners. Marvel Comics continuity

Marvel The Transformers comics

Events from the UK-only comic stories are in italics.
Scavenger is the green and purple one.

Early in the Transformers' war on Earth, Shockwave used the stolen power of the Creation Matrix to give life to the first of a new generation of Decepticon warriors, the Constructicons. Scavenger and his Constructicons were immediately given a mission upon their coming online: to construct a communications tower to transmit a message to Cybertron. A truck stop was raided for raw materials, which attracted the ire of trucker Bomber Bill, who, with the aid of the Autobots, managed to destroy the tower Scavenger and the other Constructicons had built. The Next Best Thing to Being There!

With both Shockwave and Megatron out of action, Scavenger fell under Soundwave's command and assisted him in capturing the rogue Dinobot Sludge as well as the hapless Cliffjumper, Windcharger and Gears. By setting Sludge against Grimlock in the human town of Doonstown and booby-trapping their own shuttle against Optimus Prime's Autobots when they arrived, Soundwave, Scavenger and Skywarp managed to inflict significant casualties on the enemy and won the day for the Decepticons. Dinobot Hunt!

Scavenger and the Constructicons, after troubleshooting their union as Devastator, were sent by Shockwave to abduct Buster Witwicky. Their attack was called off to regroup when Soundwave discovered Buster held the rest of the Creation Matrix in his head. Devastation Derby!

After Megatron's retaking of Decepticon command, Scavenger and the other Constructicons were charged with building perimeter defenses around their headquarters located at the base of a coal strip mine in eastern Wyoming. Devastator's services were again required when the Autobots staged a surprise attack, but they retreated once they had what they needed. Command Performances!

While the Decepticons were searching for their errant captive Robot Master, Soundwave picked up a signal of Joy Meadows appearing on Between the Lines threatening to expose the truth of the Transformers' war on Earth. Following Swoop thanks to a Triple I tracer, Megatron, Soundwave, Scavenger and the rest of the Constructicons located the human reporter being sheltered by the Dinobots and proceeded to beat the snot out of them. The battle was turned against the Decepticons by the arrival of Centurion and so Soundwave decided to end it by incinerating the humans' footage. Once more victorious, Scavenger and the others left the Dinobots to lick their wounds. In the National Interest

When the time travelling Decepticon leader Galvatron returned to the past, he incapacitated Megatron and Soundwave and had the Constructicons build a giant weapon for him, though this would ultimately be destroyed thanks to the efforts of Ultra Magnus and the similarly time travelling Hot Rod, Kup and Blurr. Target: 2006

During Ratbat's command, Scavenger and the Constructicons (without Mixmaster, oddly) raided a building site in downtown Atlanta, Georgia for raw materials such as girders. Toy Soldiers! He was then seen aboard the Decepticons' island base in the Caribbean when it was attacked by the Autobot Targetmasters looking to rescue Buster Witwicky. The Desert Island of Space!

Ratbat ordered an attack on the combined Autobot forces on Earth's moon while Blaster and Grimlock dueled for leadership. Under cover of battle, Scavenger and the other Constructicons retrieved the remains of several fallen and captured Decepticons. Totaled!

Earthforce
These stories do not fit into the normal Marvel continuity. See Earthforce for details.

Scavenger, like most of the Constructicons, served under Megatron's command during the Earthforce saga. He was first seen talking to Rampage from Shockwave's camp during the Enclave. The Bad Guy's Ball! Later, he was present when Soundwave and Starscream successfully took over the factions and united the Decepticons. Internal Affairs! Scavenger joined the majority of the Decepticon forces in a major attack on Autobot Earthbase under Soundwave's command, hoping to draw attention away from Starscream's raid on an off-shore oil tanker... and maybe kill a 'Bot or two. Instead, they ended up with no oil, and Scavenger got roasted by Slag's flame breath. Divide and Conquer!

Thanks to partial schematics culled from Shockwave's data-tracs, Megatron was able to rebuild Scavenger and the Constructicons in his efforts to rebuild his power base. As a side effect of Megatron's reconstruction work, the meek Scavenger was now the largest of the Constructicons. Scavenger and his team assembled aboard Astrotrain to help Megatron lay claim to a source of Rarified Energon. Crossing Over, Part 2

Facing the Autobots in battle over the new energon, Scavenger and the Constructicons merged into their new Devastator form. Devastator was tougher than Grimlock in battle, but also proved tougher than the ground beneath his feet. Crossing Over: Part 3 Only the individual Constructicons emerged from the cave-in, and they proved the definition of "gestalt" by being incapable of beating Grimlock as five when they succeeded as one. Scavenger and his teammates dogpiled on Grimlock, but could not hold him back. Crossing Over: Part 5 Where strength failed, Scavenger and Hightower tried guile. Scavenger struck down Grimlock in a surprise attack using his shovel, but the Dinobot commander still managed to overpower the Constructicons. Crossing Over: Part 6

Galvatron Attacks

Marvel Storybooks continuity

Under the guise of the Global Corporation, Scavenger and his fellow Constructicons created sophisticated buildings all around the world. Within each building, however, was hidden a mechanism that would trap underground all within the structure. When the scheme was put into motion and the Autobots responded with an attack, Scavenger and his fellow Contructicons merged to become The Devastator. Though in this form, the Constructicons were able to overpower the Autobots, that changed when the Dinobots arrived. Scavenger and Mixmaster died when Swoop sliced through both of The Devastator's legs with his sword. Battle for Earth

As Devastator, Scavenger and the other Constructicons stumbled upon Sunstreaker admiring his reflection in the wilderness, and managed to capture the vain Autobot. The group revealed their individual components to their prisoner once he was safely locked up within Decepticon headquarters. They rejoined forces to combat an Autobot rescue party that attempted to storm Decepticon base, and captured Slag, Sludge and Sideswipe as well, putting them in Sunstreaker's cell. The Constructicons were once more prompted to combine into Devastator to contemplate an Autobot peace offering; a life-sized statue of the gestalt! The peace offering turned out to be an Autobot ruse, and reinforcement burst forth from within the statue. The Autobots forced Devastator to break up into his component pieces by thoroughly dividing his attention, and so Scavenger joined the fight against the Autobots as an individual. The Decepticons ultimately lost the battle to the Autobots. The Autobots' Secret Weapon

In "The Autobots' Secret Weapon," Scavenger is never portrayed in any of the illustrations, nor is he called out by name in the text. However, he must be present for Devastator to be formed. Besides, the narration specifically refers to there being six Constructicons, despite only ever showing five.

The Autobot Spy in the Sky

Find Your Fate Junior

As the following stories are multipath adventures, details will vary depending on the path taken. See individual pages for information on alternate paths.

Autobot Alert!

In one possible scenario, the Constructicons were responsible for building the Decepticons’ command centre in the evil robots’ latest plot of taking over the Earth. They also were responsible for stocking Astrotrain with explosives and weapons before the Decepticon shuttle launched into space to further sabotage Earth’s satellites.

In a different possible scenario, the Constructicons joined Galvatron on his campaign to retrieve an ancient cybertite sphere containing the secret of an ancient Autobot power-booster. Discovering that the sphere was within a sunken ship off the California coast, the Constructicons merged into Devastator in order to retrieve it. Autobot Alert!

The Invisibility Factor

In one possible scenario, Scavenger accompanied Galvatron on a patrol in a desert at night. Upon spotting a spaceship that flickered in-and-out of sight, the patrol investigated. Finding the Autobots Kup and Hot Rod conversing with a woman at the ship’s landing site, Scavenger and the others fired upon them, causing them to scramble away. Galvatron then ordered his troops to stay and scrutinize the spaceship instead of pursuing the Autobots.

If Hot Rod and Kup decided to attack immediately, the Autobots were easily defeated and destroyed by the Scavenger and the other Decepticons.

If Hot Rod and Kup silently followed the Decepticons back to their hide-out in a nearby canyon, they managed to tricked Scavenger and the others into thinking that they were being ambushed by a whole squadron of Autobots. Panicking, the Decepticons attempted to retaliate by firing in all directions.

If Hot Rod snuck down and successfully snatched the Invisibility Device from Shockwave, the Decepticons gave chase to the young Autobot. They were unable to catch him before Kup fired down onto the canyon’s walls, causing it to collapse and burying the Decepticons under an avalanche of earth and rocks.

In an alternate scenario, Scavenger and the other Decepticons decided to take off into space in Sarah Sander’s ship after acquiring the Invisibility Device. Whether the Decepticons succeeded in mastering the Invisibility Device and subsequently destroyed the Autobots, or were destroyed or defeated themselves depended on what choices the Autobots made from this point on.

In yet another alternate scenario, the Decepticons were to first to make contact with Sarah Sanders. While the rest of his squadron dragged her spacecraft away, Scavenger himself held Sarah captive.

If the Autobots decided to rescue Sarah immediately, Scavenger was at first ready to fight them off, but upon seeing how outnumbered he was, he dropped the woman, and cried for help while attempting to flee.

If the Autobots pursued Scavenger, the Decepticon still managed to rejoin his squadron of Decepticons. He quickly informed them of his situation, and pointed them towards his pursuers. In whichever scenario that followed, the Autobots managed to steal the Invisibility Device from the Decepticons, either dazzling Scavenger and the others with their headlights while Hot Rod took the device right out of their hands, or tricking most of the other Decepticons into leaving the spaceship behind while they pursued the young Autobot on a wild goose chase. Now greatly outnumber, Scavenger quickly fell to the Autobots’ firepower. The Invisibility Factor

The Power Struggle

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

Events from The Transformers Trilogy novels are in italics.

Nine million years ago, Scavenger was involved in the early days of the Decepticons, and specifically Megatron's plan to turn the planet into a cosmic dreadnought. He eagerly defended the project from Autobot invaders... right up until the point Ironhide shot him in the face. Without looking. The War Within #6 He and the other Constructicons later created the gestalt process, giving them the power to merge into Devastator. After the technology was widely distributed, however, the Crisis Intervention Accord came down banning the use of Special Teams as too dangerous. The Constructicons were the first to break the Accords during the Dark Ages, joining up with Ratbat and his Ultracons. Escalation They attempted to seize control of the Tagan Heights from the Wreckers, and also had an epic battle with Defensor before ultimately being taken down by his individual components, the Protectobots. Devastation

Although they were apparently not part of the crew of the Nemesis, Scavenger and the Constructicons did somehow wind up on Earth in the 1980s, fighting alongside Megatron and his crew against the Autobots. In 1998, Scavenger was captured and deactivated along with the rest of the Decepticons following Operation Liberation. Roughly a year later, after the explosion of the Ark II, Scavenger's body was recovered by the mercenary known as Lazarus, who attempted to reprogram many of the Transformers into controllable soldiers. Once Megatron overcame this programming, however, he freed his fellow Decepticons and they began to terrorize the Earth once more. Scavenger and the Constructicons attacked a city in California shortly after being freed, using their Devastator form to cause horrendous amounts of property damage. Prime Directive #5 It took some daredevil maneuvering by Optimus Prime himself to bring them down. Prime Directive #6

Scavenger and the Constructicons were later reactivated by Starscream, during a time when Megatron was missing and Decepticon leadership was changing hands. They took up residence in Las Vegas, converting the city for Decepticon use. Needless to say there was some resistance, and a small army of humans and Autobots led by Grimlock soon invaded the territory. Scavenger did not personally engage in battle, although he may have been responsible for pulling four of his deactivated teammates to safety while Long Haul distracted the Autobots. Hardwired

Megatron eventually returned to Earth, but Scavenger and the Constructicons owed Starscream for reconstructing them, and so remained loyal to him when the Decepticons split into two factions. Of course, this only meant they were among the first to be captured by the Keepers when those aliens took over Las Vegas and turned Starscream into their puppet. Trapped behind an impenetrable force dome, Scavenger and the Constructicons attempted to batter their way out as Devastator using sheer brute force, until Skywarp offered a better idea. Reconverting into their separate modes, Bonecrusher dug a tunnel out beneath the force field and Scavenger excavated it, enabling Starscream's faction to join the final battle against the Keepers. Acting as Devastator, they were too far away from Optimus Prime and his Matrix-induced force shield when the American nuclear assault was dropped on the Keepers, and were blasted into pieces. Annihilation

The nuclear blast left Devastator fused into his singular robot mode, leaving him unable to split back into Scavenger and his other components. Eventually, Devastator fell into the Void along with Omega Sentinel in the final conflict with the Keepers, and was left in stasis lock, drifting in the vacuum of space, after the Sentinel destroyed the Keepers' power source and shattered the Void back into real space-time. The starship Bounty, on a secret space mission from Earth, came across Devastator's remains and planned to tow him back to Earth. Fusion

The pieces of Scavenger and the Constructicons fell under the control of Earth Defense Command, and were held in their Roswell facility for study. Generation 1 #0

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers continuity

The ruthless terrorist organization known as Cobra dug dozens of Autobots and Decepticons out of their four-million-year resting place and began rebuilding them into a Cobra-controlled army. However, with Wheeljack and Bumblebee's help, the mind-controlled Transformers were awakened just as Doctor Mindbender expressed surprise at the Constructicons' meticulousness. Scavenger kindly offered to "meticulously" tear the doctor to pieces. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #3

He ultimately didn't get to have any fun with maiming, as Soundwave arrived and took Mindbender for his own purposes before ordering the Constructicons to defend the SPS Satellite controls from the Autobots and G.I. Joes that were assaulting Cobra Island. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #4 Scavenger and his comrades went outside and formed Devastator, but were defeated by the attackers soon after killing Hound. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #5

The Beast Within

During a particularly violent battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, Scavenger watched on in horror as The Beast, the Dinobots’ gestalt form, dispatched Predaking in one sword strike. Brought out of his stupor by Onslaught, Scavenger joined with the other Constructicons to form Devastator. The Beast Within

IDW Generation 1 continuity

After getting laid off due to the Senate "reforms" being championed by Ratbat, Scavenger and the other Constructicons sought out new work—with Megatron. The secrecy necessary for operating the underground gladiator sports of Kaon meant that the combat arena needed to be mobile. As a result, the Constructicons were given the unique and challenging job of building a new arena from scratch before every battle, using only the scrap and other materials on-site. Megatron Origin #2 They also worked with repairing Megatron and other injured gladiators after their battles. Megatron Origin #3

The Constructions witnessed Optimus Prime recruit an army of Autobots to overthrow the Decepticon tyranny of Cybertron. Broadcast As the war began in earnest between the Autobots and Decepticons, the Constructicons remained loyal followers of Megatron. At one point they were stationed on Varas Centralus alongside Swindle and Sky-Byte, where they committed some atrocity that was enough to cause Sky-Byte to abandon the Decepticon cause. A Better Tomorrow

In modern times, Scavenger and the Constructicons came to Earth for Megatron's major offensive against the planet. Using the newly acquired gestalt technology, they merged into Devastator and easily swept aside the Autobot forces, leaving Earth ripe for conquest. All Hail Megatron #7 The Constructicons were involved in the opening strike on New York City, bringing down buildings and causing massive civilian casualties. All Hail Megatron #1 Later, they formed Devastator and destroyed all the underground tunnels leading in and out of the city, cutting it off from the outside world. All Hail Megatron #2

Bumblebee just failed the same leadership test Scavenger gave to Hot Shot.

Scavenger joined Starscream's side during the Seeker's revolution, combining with the other Constructicons to form Devastator and attacking Megatron. Megatron put up a good fight, but was eventually defeated and only survived due to the arrival of human jets from the European Union. All Hail Megatron #10 After spending some time swiping at the attacking planes, Devastator was attacked by Omega Supreme All Hail Megatron #11, who defeated him by shooting him through the chest. All Hail Megatron #12

Following the Decepticons' defeat, Scavenger was separated from the other Constructicons and went on the run from Skywatch. Two years later, after he had successfully avoided capture for a while, the humans decided to focus on hunting down Blurr instead. Apparently, not even Skywatch consider Scavenger particularly important. The Hanging Sword In an attempt to escape from Skywatch, Scavenger painted himself in less conspicuous colors and spent a week trying to sneak aboard a cargo ship going out of the country. However, he was found by Bumblebee, who wanted the Autobots and Decepticons to work together in order to prove to the humans that they were equals. This enraged Scavenger, who strictly considered the "meat bags" lesser beings to be ruled over, and lashed out at Bumblebee with his shovel. As the Autobot fled, Scavenger taunted him and went back into hiding. The Impossible Knot

After the war ended, Scavenger worked for the Autobots on Cybertron until he spotted Bombshell being chased by the Autobots. Coming to Bombshell's defense, the Constructicons beat up Blurr and fought with Arcee until Prowl showed up, threatening to detonate their I/D chips. They just taunted him since Ratbat had disabled their chips, but Prowl used a secret passcode to override the disabling and detonate them anyway, seemingly killing all the Constructicons. Devisive In fact, the Autobot had fallen under Bombshell's mind-control, allowing the Insecticon to fake the Constructicons' deaths and hide them away for the purpose of perfecting Devastator. The Verge Once Megatron returned from a long absence, Scavenger combined with his fellows into the new Devastator--with Prowl serving as the head--who was then deployed to conquer Iacon. Before the Dawn Devastator was taken apart when Prowl fought back and rejected the combiner, which would have allowed Megatron himself to take his place had the Decepticon leader not been defeated in the process of combining. Heavy Is the Head

The Decepticons were exiled from Iacon following their defeat, but Scavenger and the Constructicons, impressed by the terrible things they'd seen in Prowl's mind, left the others to join their new idol in the similarly exiled Autobot forces. After a brief battle with the Dinobots, they were allowed to stay at the Autobot camp, where they promptly picked a fight with Arcee before the Dinobots calmed them down with camaraderie and energon. Second Exodus They were caught in the Necrotitan's "death wave", but were healed from its effects when the Titan was brought down by Metroplex. Finis Temporis As the Transformers got together to celebrate the defeat of the Necrotitan, Scavenger and his teammates only had praise for Prowl, much to his discomfort. The Becoming As Cybertron was attacked by 70 billion Ammonites sent by Shockwave, the Constructicons followed Prowl into battle and convinced him to form Devastator again for the sake of defeating Monstructor. Black Planet

Convinced that the Constructicons were a useful resource, Prowl made them his own personal strike force and took them with him on a mission to Earth. On arrival they saved the Ark-7 from burrowing human drone-missiles, then formed Devastator to fight Galvatron's Decepticons. Detonation Boulevard When the Autobots located where Earth Defense Command was holding Alpha Trion, Prowl had Scavenger become a double agent and leak the information to the Decepticons. The Mind Bomb He and the Constructicons subsequently participated in the attack on the EDC base, using stealth paint to sneak into the battle zone before forming Devastator and destroying the base. Toys

Generation 1

  • Scavenger (1985/1986)
    • Team ID number: 2
    • Japanese ID number: 35
    • Accessories: Laser pistol, "Target Shooter", Devastator's right fist, "Rotor Blade" projectile
Scavenger was originally from Takara's Pre-Transformers Diaclone toyline, as Construction Vehicle Robot No. 2 Power Shovel. Transforming into a bright green and purple excavator, Scavenger can become an "Attack Shovel" by attaching the "Target Shooter" projectile launcher (with the "Rotor Blade" loaded) onto the pegs on the right side of his green vehicle chassis. He can combine with his fellow Constructicons to form Devastator, functioning as the right arm. His "Target Shooter" becomes Devastator's lower right arm.
On the European continent, Scavenger was initially released individually alongside the other Constructicons by Hasbro's subsidiary Milton Bradley (MB) in 1985.[1][2] In 1986, Scavenger and the other Constructicons were re-released in Europe, albeit this time in "Hasbro"-branded packaging (but manufactured by Joustra). The main difference with all other releases thus far was that the Constructicons' main color was now yellow instead of green.[3][4][5] These are not to be confused with the later, non-combining yellow European Constructicons, nor with the yellow Generation 2 Constructicons (see below for both).
  • Devastator (Giftset, 1985)
    • Japanese ID number: 37
Scavenger was also available as part of the Devastator gift set that was available in several markets, including the United States and Japan. Rumors are that an MB-branded Devastator giftset was also released in continental Europe, but thus far no packaged sample has surfaced.[2]

  • Constructicon (1992)
    • Accessories: Laser pistol
Another yellow European exclusive version of Scavenger, in colors very similar to the previous yellow European release. Not only did this version, just like the other Constructicons, come with no Devastator parts—this Scavenger had also been retooled so he lacked the tab on his chest used to connect with Hook. This toy was also not officially named, as he came on a standardized card also used by the other Constructicons.
There were two variants of this Scavenger: The initial production run had his bucket arm cast in gray plastic (a color choice unique to this version), whereas the other one had a yellow bucket arm like the previous European yellow Scavenger.[6]

Generation 2

  • Scavenger (Constructicon, 1993)
    • Team ID number: 2
    • Accessories: Laser pistol, "Target Shooter" missile launcher, Devastator's right fist, "Rotor Blade" missile
Redecos of all six Constructicons were released individually as part of the first assortments of Generation 2 products. The first—and seemingly more common—versions were yellow like the previous European release, but had some minor color, deco and tooling differences. In Scavenger's case, the purple plastic parts were slightly brighter, the shovel arm was yellow (like on the first European yellow version and the later variant of the 1992 version), his "Target Shooter" missile launcher was retooled to remove the spring-loaded missile-launcher gimmick, with both "missiles" similarly adjusted to be solid posts rather than notched, and—most importantly—he had the tab on his chest needed to combine with Hook and came with all the extra parts necessary to form Devastator again.
A later and seemingly less common run changed the yellow plastics to rich orange. It has been rumored that this release was only available in KB Toys stores, but not verified.

Classics

"Now I'LL be queen of summertime! I mean king! KING!"
  • Constructicon Devastator (Multi-pack, 2007)
Scavenger is one of the toys included in this gift pack, a redeco of Energon Steamhammer. He transforms into a green face shovel, of the super-sized quarry-mining variety. In robot mode, his left arm is made out of the steam shovel arm, and he has a spark crystal within the shovel.
He forms the central body component of Devastator this time, with the combiner's head being located inside his cabin, and the rest of his team plugging into combiner Powerlinx ports located in his arms and legs.
Scary, huh?
Just like his Super Link and Energon predecessors, Scavenger suffers from a slight misassembly: The small tabs on the sides of his treads are supposed to peg into the holes in the black flaps on his hips, thereby stabilizing the robot torso. However, the tabs are located on the sides of his head instead. Fortunately, the treads can be easily swapped using a screwdriver. Hasbro's official stock photography depict the treads correctly assembled.

Encore

  • Devastor (reissue giftset, 2011)
    • ID number: 20
    • Accessories: Laser pistol, Devastator's right fist, "target shooter" projectile launcher, "rotor blade" projectile.
Scavenger was reissued in a giftset with his Constructicon teammates as part of TakaraTomy's Encore line. Although apparently cast from a newly created mold, given the presence of a Tomy copyright stamp rather than the original Hasbro/Takara one, Scavenger features no appreciable difference from his original figure, save from a slightly smaller knob on the rear of his vehicle mode.
  • Devastor (reissue giftset, 2013)
    • ID number: 20A
    • Accessories: Laser pistol, Devastator's right fist, "target shooter" projectile launcher, "rotor blade" projectile.
Scavenger was again reissued in a giftset in 2013 as part of TakaraTomy's Encore line, this time in a more 'anime accurate' color scheme. In addition to the mold changes of the 2011 version, Scavenger is also a slightly different color and features more cartoon-accurate paint applications on his face. His projectile launcher / Devastator's lower arm is colored black, instead of purple.

Generations

"What do you mean? This box isn't the same as that other guy's! It's mine!"
  • Devastator (gift set, 2015)
Combiner Wars Constructicon Scavenger is an all-new Voyager-sized figure that forms Titan Class Devastator's right arm. He's packaged with the other Constructicons in a massive box. This Devastator currently holds the record of being the tallest Combiner toy released to date.

  • Devastator (gift set, 2015)
A redeco of the above Scavenger figure also available as part of a gift set, featuring extensive paint operations and Vacuum metallized purple parts. The packaging of this set is designed to evoke both Bonecrusher's shovel and Devastator's head, and its interior is designed to resemble the title image of Devastator on his wiki page.
In the US, this set (also referred to as "Devastator Special Edition" in a Hasbro press release) was exclusive to the Hasbro Toy Shop website and the Hasbro Toy Shop booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. In Asia, it was also available at Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong 2015 and subsequently stocked by Toys"R"Us Hong Kong. Later, it was also available at The Falcon's Hangar booth at Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention 2015.

Merchandise

Decoy

  • Destron Hero Collection 22 (Decoy multi-pack, 1985)
This small purple rubber figurine of Scavenger was released in Japan as part of a large multi-pack of similar figures, which were used as playing pieces for Transformers board games. The figure features a number etched into its back which is the sum total of Scavenger's Tech Spec ratings, which served some function in the gameplay the figures were used for.
  • Scavenger (1987)
    • Decoy number: 43
The Scavenger figurine was later brought over to Hasbro markets as part of the Decoy promotion, largely identical to the Japanese release except for the fact that the number on his back was replaced with a simple "checklist" number. Like all Decepticon Decoys, he was a randomly-chosen pack-in available with the carded Throttlebots, Stunticons, Combaticons and Terrorcons, and was, very early on in the promotion, available in an alternate red coloration that was only packed in with the Throttlebots. Naturally, this red figurine is much rarer.

Notes

  • The original The Transformers cartoon series bible features two descriptions of Scavenger, one typed with the name "Scavenger" and one with "Scrounge". Oddly, "Scavenger" is the one that's crossed out by hand and relabeled "Scrounge". This would make it onscreen once, when Scrapper referred to him as "Scrounge" in their introductory episode.
  • Scavenger's animation model gives him Hook's pistol. Hook's animation model uses a different take on Hook's pistol, so Scavenger's gun design seems to go unused. Scavenger doesn't mind though; his pistol kills in ONE SHOT.
