Transformers: BotBots is a toyline released in late 2018, involving small, cartoony, super deformed robot characters who transform into mundane items. These 1-inch tall soft-plastic bots are marketed in the same style as the insanely popular Shopkins toys and other collectible mini-toys. The line is heavily aimed at young children, with wackiness and toilet humor galore. | Transformers: BotBots is a toyline released in late 2018, involving small, cartoony, super deformed robot characters who transform into mundane items. The Blind Bag Mystery Figures have individual ID numbers that allow you to tell what toy is inside. For Series 1, these are lightly embossed (by hand, strangely) on the back of the card on the bottom-right, near the pull-up flap. There are clearer, stamped-on ID codes located under the flap, though pulling them up while you're still in the store may get you in trouble. In all later Series, the ID numbers are instead properly printed onto the back of the card, near the top edge under the peg-hook. The blindpacked portions of 5-packs and 8-packs also have hand-embossed numbers to identify the Lost Bot/Winner's Circle Bot inside, but we tell you what's in there anyway, so. | The Blind Bag Mystery Figures have individual ID numbers that allow you to tell what toy is inside. As each individual toy can appear in multiple multi-packs, this section is... a little more complicated than most. For each Series, we'll first list a complete roster of characters, broken down by their "squads", then a listing of the individual packages and their contents.

It was revealed via Hasbro Australia's website | It was revealed via Hasbro Australia's website, but its lack of appearance at Toy Fair 2019 and within the Transformers BotBots Official Sticker Book indicated it was meant to be a store exclusive. Months later this was confirmed when Toys"R"Us stores in Canada, Taiwan and Hong Kong (briefly) sold the sets. With that chain being dead in the US, Amazon eventually released the Bakery Bytes to US buyers (as would several smaller online outlets well before then), and then a few months later added the Lawn League. Eventually, by holiday season 2020, these packs found their way to discount chains, with the Lawn League showing up at Ross and the Bakery Bytes at Five Below.

| {{note|This "minimum buy" arrangement is not the most inexpensive possible "minimum buy": that would actually be buying Bakery Bytes sets #2 and #4 and Lawn League set #2, saving you $5. :69 to collect | |||
Debuting at the end of 2019, Series 4 introduced a new "Goldrush Games" subline imprint for the 2020 product range. The new, gold-colored "Winner's Circle" Bots replaced the Lost Bots as the blindpacked "prize" bots, but with a twist: each was only available in one package in the entire Series. The remaining packages feature Bots from other teams in the blindpacked portions, but like the Lost Bots before them, those Bots would only show up in the blindpacked portions.
Packaging-wise, the peel-away backs for the blindpacked portions of the packaging were removed to discourage theft. Individual instructions were also removed from the line, which you wouldn't think would be a big deal, but some of these bots have questionable parts placement. | Packaging-wise, the peel-away backs for the blindpacked portions of the packaging were removed to discourage theft. Individual instructions were also removed from the line, which you wouldn't think would be a big deal, but some of these bots have questionable parts placement.
On top of that, for whatever reason, the character artwork that was clearly made for every Bot, which is seen on the packaging, was not used for their online bios.

For reasons unknown, the Series 5 multi-packs were released simultaneously with Series 4 in the US, with those and the single-packs also releasing with Series 4 in Canada and the UK. The single-packs were not released at mass retail in the US until June 2021, when they were eventually sold at clearance outlets like Dollar Tree and Five Below. Just as with Series 4, the toys lack instructions and the website uses photos of the toys rather than drawn character art.

Series 6 was first acknowledged at Toy Fair 2020, with a pair of Surprise Unboxing packs slated for release circa August 2020. Ultimately, the series failed to materialise that year; perhaps as a result of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, or perhaps due to discussions for the Netflix cartoon series altering toy release plans. Further information on Series 6 would not be revealed until the accompanying PDF checklist was discovered via Hasbro's customer service website in early 2021, followed by nearly a year of silence. When Series 6 was finally officially announced in March 2022, however, it had a drastically different lineup. With no further word on the subject, it seems highly unlikely the original Series 6 toys will ever be released.

===Series 6 (2022)=== | |||
:60 to collect | |||
The second Series 6 line was revealed and put up for pre-order just two days before the premiere of the BotBots Netflix cartoon; while originally slated to arrive in September of 2023 (a full year after its reveal!), the sets instead began arriving in late October 2022. This time around, the vague overarching theme of its rare bots is focused on the "Ruckus Rally", with shiny-black bots from the "Oil Slicks" squad in (most of) the blind-packed portions, which are also now revealed in a simple perforated section of cardboard in the middle of the packaging. This series also introduces larger vehicles for the BotBots toys to ride.
This Series also makes a big change as to how the toys are packed out. This time around, each multi-pack contains only members of the specific squad called out on the package (with the Oil Slicks blindpacked exemption of course), and there's only two packs for each of the mere four "normal" squads.
There are a handful of minor oddities to this Series, seemingly from having originally been planned for Series 7 but then pushed "up" (the Racer-Roni's instructions actually have "Series 7" printed on them). The packaging says there's "75+" toys in the Ruckus Rally... but there's only 60 individual Bots, and even including the vehicles will only get you to 62. It's entirely possible entire squads were omitted in the transition to Series 6; the earliest product listings unearthed for the Series included additional 5-pack assortments for both the Sugar Shocks and a new "skate shop" squad, plus a potential exclusive "dino store" 5 pack.
| |||

* The instruction leaflets (as well as the official BotBots website) provide all of the individual BotBot characters with a "Level" of between one and three stars. This corresponds to the illustrated checklist (included in every BotBots package), depicting the BotBots within a shopping mall. To make each BotBot easier to find on the checklist, the one-starred BotBots are on the ground floor, the two-starred BotBots are on the second tier, and the three-starred BotBots are on the top floor. The star rating appears to have no other purpose, and is not a reliable indicator of rarity. 3-Star bots are usually only available in a single pack, but many one-pack-only bots aren't 3-Star rated. None of this is helped by the fact that Series 2 has several discrepancies between the pack-in checklist and website's Levels for many bots. | * The instruction leaflets (as well as the official BotBots website) provide all of the individual BotBot characters with a "Level" of between one and three stars.
Overview
[edit]
Each BotBot is a tiny, roughly-1-inch tall PVC-plastic toy that converts from a robot into some other object in a few short, simple steps. Though accessories are exceedingly rare in the line, many BotBots have hands that are compatible with accessories that use 3mm posts.
Each character belongs to a themed team depending on the "store" their alternate mode is found in, though the individual members of the team are spread out among a lot of packages. The three main price points in the line, found in every Series, are:
- Blind Bag Mystery Figures with a single Bot inside
- 5-Packs with two Bots from the pack's theme team, two Bots from two other teams, and an additional blind-packed (but not random) Bot
- 8-Packs with two Bots from the pack's theme team, five Bots from five other teams, and an additional blind-packed (but not random) Bot
There are also several special price points introduced in later Series:
- Arcade Renegades Surprise packs with twelve Bots from the pack's theme team, and four from other teams (well, usually)
- Surprise Unboxing packs with ten individual capsules inside, containing five Bots, one "Winner's Circle" gold Bot, and four stickers
Naturally, there is a ton of overlap, with many figures available in multiple different packs; some Bots can be found in up to four different packages per Series. These redundant Bots are meant to encourage trading among the kids.
In the first three Series, the blind-packed portions are opened by pulling up a tearable flap on the back of the card, revealing a perforated paper layer. The instructions say to then push the plastic bubble with both thumbs to pop the Bot out through the paper, but you can just tear the paper and pull it out too. By Series 4, these tearaway flaps were removed to discourage in-store theft.
Toyline
[edit]As each individual toy can appear in multiple multi-packs, this section is... a little more complicated than most. For each Series, we'll first list a complete roster of characters, broken down by their "squads", then a listing of the individual packages and their contents.

Series "1.5" (2019)
[edit]- 13 to collect
This series features special "color change" BotBots with heat-sensitive paint, revealing splotches when warmed up. It appears to be an "add-on" to Series 1, and includes a modified Series 1 checklist.
It was revealed via Hasbro Australia's website,[1] but its lack of appearance at Toy Fair 2019 and within the Transformers BotBots Official Sticker Book indicated it was meant to be a store exclusive.

On top of that, for whatever reason, the character artwork that was clearly made for every Bot, which is seen on the packaging, was not used for their online bios.

Series 5 (2020)
[edit]- 60 to collect
For reasons unknown, the Series 5 multi-packs were released simultaneously with Series 4 in the US, with those and the single-packs also releasing with Series 4 in Canada and the UK. The single-packs were not released at mass retail in the US until June 2021, when they were eventually sold at clearance outlets like Dollar Tree and Five Below. Just as with Series 4, the toys lack instructions and the website uses photos of the toys rather than drawn character art.

Cancelled Series 6 (2020)
[edit]690 to collect

Series 6 (2022)
[edit]- 60 to collect
It's entirely possible entire squads were omitted in the transition to Series 6; the earliest product listings unearthed for the Series included additional 5-pack assortments for both the Sugar Shocks and a new "skate shop" squad,[2] plus a potential exclusive "dino store" 5 pack.[3]
As per usual though, Bots in italics are found only in that pack.

Notes
[edit]- The instruction leaflets (as well as the official BotBots website) provide all of the individual BotBot characters with a "Level" of between one and three stars. 3-Star 'bots are usually only available in a single pack, but many one-pack-only 'bots aren't 3-Star rated. None of this is helped by the fact that Series 2 has several discrepancies between the pack-in checklist and website's Levels for many 'bots.
- Promotional material for Series 1 shows two BotBots who are not actually in Series 1, a baseball and a soccer ball.[4] Both were moved to later Series.
- All of the characters introduced thus far are entirely new, separate from any traditional Generation 1 characters: a rarity in today's Transformers toy market.
- On that note, many characters have Autobot and Decepticon insignia on them (though the latter has not been found on anyone without the former also present). However, it does not appear that this is meant to indicate factional allegiance... but in-universe marketing. Absolutely no mention of the Autobots, Decepticons, Cybertron, or the like is made in the promotional materials, only "energon". Several 'bots like Skillz Punk have both faction symbols on them, typically in the context "Autobots vs Decepticons" branding. It looks like in this universe, "Autobots" and "Decepticons" are... well, intellectual property used to advertise products. Meta!
- BotBots easily has the highest percentage of female Transformers in its cast of any Transformers toyline, and by a stunningly wide margin. In the first two series alone, 39 of the 121 characters are female. In fact, it took Transformers as a whole thirty years to approach that number of female toy-characters period, and that's including convention-exclusive offerings! (And not counting toys that had no bio upon release and were later retconned as female.) As of Series 5, roughly a third of the cast is female, with a few bio-less 'bots and some with no gendered pronouns in their bio at all.
